  1. Hi All....Len Jewel "all my good good lovin" a true 2 sided classic, 1976 I got my first copy & it was styrene, the second copy was plastic, never seen another styrene copy, not sure of the true status of the plastic copy, but it's worth having for both sides at a guess £20 would be about right! DAVE K
  2. HI PETER HERES 2 FOR YOU, both are classics DAVE K
  3. Hi Peter...My posting was made in haste, the statement of only aware of 2 JB records that are mid tempo threw me, Over the years I have met many people who stated a dislike to JB and would never consider buying his records that's faire enough, but JB introduced many people to soul, as early as 1961, he has recorded ballads mid tempo, up tempo songs, he introduced on the ones funk 1 - - - 1 - - - 1 bass & drum to the world, he made many classic records and a few have been played on the rare soul scene at the TORCH Hey America inst, To conclude I would recommend that you don't just listen to JB, but get into the groove, the soul groove, try to move your feet to the beat of LICKING STICK, A personal fave of mine, if I could I would play the box, i'm sure you would find more than the 2 you know. DAVE K
  4. HI ALL.... I have a box of all of James Brown UK 45s and about 150 JB related 45s, and if you think I am going to waste my time with this person, you can think again, I feel so bad, I want to jump back....& kiss myself, Dave K
  5. HI ALL.....To be honest the SOUL SCENE today is a healthy scene to be in, and still retains it's elite standing, that the original underground scene inherited from the 6ts MOD culture (later on SKINHEAD). It's still a very safe scene, that embraces new people to attend, although there are still members who attended the foundation or the roots of the scene (WHEEL, MECCA, TORCH early WIGAN), & hanker after the good old days of NORTHERN SOUL. We have gone well past those days, and have become a scene that attracts many older people than the youth sub culture foundations, It's a fact that the GAY scene took on board many traits of the soul scene, that made it more open to all, Todays scene is welcoming to all, and is a place to meet new friends, who have a love for RARE SOUL MUSIC. DAVE K
  6. Hi All. I had a 444 acetate of 2 Chris Jackson demos, it come from SOUL SAM, I swapped it to a Wolves Collector. DAVE K
  7. Hi All...The record has been booted to look like the original in recent times, on VIIP, However the first available BOOT was in 78 using the cover up name of Eddie Foster, the 1st Tamla Motown copy 79, EMI DEMO had picture sleeve, FACTORY SAMPLE, used the same stamper as the DEMO, issues used 5 stampers?.. RCA release was one of the first for the new owners, BOX SET Release has both male & female vocals, (it's a shame that the other 45s have little value to the collector), why the EMI copy fetches big money compared to the others is a mystery to me. DAVE K.
  8. :rofl:HI ALL...This is a strange thread (not that I have read it all), it's strange for a few reasons, the first being the top 500 is a personal view from a DJ who has spent many years on the scene, he has DJ in many top venues on the soul scene, added to this fact, is the book list NORTHERN SOUL RECORDS that cover a 40+ year period, those records that come from the 7ts that are not stompers like Alfie Davidson, are still classed as northern soul in the fact that they were played on the northern soul scene, Secondly any one can compose a list of their top 500, the book is Kev Roberts TOP RARE 500 NORTHERN SOUL RECORDS. So it is up to Kev what records are inside it's cover? surly it's down to him if he wants to change it's contents?. It is my opinion that the book comes very close to a top 500 that I would have chosen, maybe some records would be in different positions, but that's all, as I say anyone can put together their own 500, but would it be to the high standard of Kevs book I think not? :ohmy:DAVE
  9. :hatsoff2:Hi All Sounds like Johnny Cash singing over the Snake Inst,? :g:on ORANGE JUICE :shhh:DAVE K
  10. :hatsoff2:Hi All....Them pesky fake bidders..do you mean people bump up a sellers goods on eBay? what's the world coming to!....... This is nonsense if this was a genuine sale, I rate it at £50+ the next record on the LONDON catalogue would be much rarer to find and not reach that price, I wonder what values John Manship has put on rare UK Soul in the new price guide?? :huh:DAVE K

:hatsoff2:Hi All .... Most of us would agree with Petes response to my question, and when trying to put a value on rare UK 45s has always been a mystery. my way is based on time spent on the scene looking for rare records, initially from junk shops second hand shops, old record shops that used to sell TVs washing machines like the old CURRYS & CO OPs, at venues, lists, and so on. I have not put car boot sales in, as I have had good finds, many people who saw me at a boot sale would give up looking, as they assumed I had mopped up, record fairs are a good guide to price up records, again with all these, they don't have the bargains that they used to have pre- RECORD COLLECTOR & eBay. as since then bargains are few and far. However my pet hate is the words MINT as how many people have 1000 mint records in their collections? none so why is it used as a valuation in price guides? anyone? But going back I will take a look at my records and attempt to list a few top tunes, but I can already state they will be many of the ones that we classed as rare 25 years ago, :thumbsup:LATERS DAVE K

:hatsoff2:Hi All ...Pete you are not alone by never having a $tateside demo copy, I can't remember seeing a copy for sale in many a year, this got me thinking about the top records on the label and their value in 2013, you have a finger on the pulse on the market? any chance of doing a update on say the top 20 rare $tateside records Demos & issues??? :g:DAVE K

:hatsoff2:Hi All...If that's not an original, I will eat my hat? :ohmy:PS never Booted anywhere I tells you :thumbsup:DAVE K
  14. :hatsoff2:HI ALL .. After missing the CLASS of 72 event & the LIFELINE ALL NIGHTER last weekend, both events I intended to be at for a long time, as they are must attend events in my book, By not being able to attend I got that familiar feeling of thinking about the night all night long, with the knowledge of what was happening minute by minute, hour by hour, does this happen to you, as it gives me the blues that does not stop until a couple of days after? :ohmy:DAVE K
  15. :hatsoff2:HI ALL....Someone once told me it's capacity was 600 as a dance hall, & 450 when it was a cinema however in the all-nighters the attendance reached 1000. with many licencing rules broken and the average age of the goers, it seemed much more, without doubt MAJOR LANCE pulled the biggest attendance, as for being heavy the simple fact is the venue went from a local place to the in place very quickly this bought conflict, as a short lived venue it's the breaking of new sounds that we all love so much which makes it a #1 venue, and it's those records that turned people onto the NORTHERN SOUL SCENE whether you went or did not go does not matter in 2013 as long as you understand the importance of the TORCH :thumbsup:DAVE K

HI ALL YOU POP-A-TOPPERS, I was moving my LPs about yesterday, and had a good session, when I come across one of my favourite LPs on TROJAN from 1970, REGGAE BLAST OFF - BYRON LEE & the DRAGONAIRES - TBL-110, Only B Lee had the gal to cover the popular Skinhead tunes of 69, O side a is a great version of Andy Capps masterpiece, "POP-A-TOP if you don't have this LP? you better cough and get off. Not sure what tracks come out on 7" also another Andy Capp classic the LAW is on the B side, I will scan the labels later, no idea of the cost of this LP, about £22ish DAVE K
  17. HI ALL....CHALKEY This is the stuff... the DOGS, I have collected flyers from day one on the scene, as they evoke the memory bank so well, also like how you displayed them, also worth a note is how the HOME PC has changed since the 8ts some great creative art work has evolved over the decades. Thanks for making your stuff available, NICE ONE & RIGHT ON DAVE K
  18. HI ALL...Strange but true, in all my years of collecting, I have had only one copy of Tainted love on a yellow label? long gone now, and I often wonder was it a original copy?, This could also be a thread of records I have had and did not realise it was the original, I do have a INFIRNO 12" COPY DAVE K
  19. HI ALL Dave nor have I, my valuation of £225, is based on the very few UK issues that got out, and also I based it on the 20+ years that I had a copy, I never saw another issue in person, however there where 5 that went on eBay auction all sold well under £200 DAVE K
  20. HI ALL...The facts on both versions of "do I love you" saga will run & run for many years to come. The 45's exist on US pressings however they are in such low numbers, the average collector can only dream about owning a copy, Chris Clark is only a blank test press, which was booted, by being dubbed from a CD, and sold as a looky likey test press, the original issues are on UK TAMLA MOTOWN, Frank Wilson was issued in 1979, and has a promo sleeve with the DEMO, The Chris Clark version was issues in the UK, as part of a BOX SET, 2O CLASSIC MOTOWN SINGLES, COMMEMORATE MOTOWN 45 YEARS, Chris Clark "do I love you" 982 153 0 AA. & is a 2004 UNIVERSAL MUSIC RELEASE, © 1966. Hope this helps DAVE K
  21. HI ALL....The UK issue is a rare 45, for sure, and vey hard to find, what spoils it, is all the pressings made of the song in the past 2 years, this has caused the rare withdrawn UK issue is worth £125 to-day, however the price being asked for the eBay copy is what the record was worth 2 years ago? DAVE K
  22. HI ALL....I have a 1 sided DEMO that KEITH MINSHAL gave me at KEELE, However I always thought they were legit, and released under license, I think CHRIS KING was the promoter,? DAVE K

Dave, it is in demand as a UK collectable, it's been known for years but only a handful of copies have ever turned up, all Polydor demos, I think I got the first one of Steve Eckersley. Never heard of an issue copy turning up. HI ALL .... Yes Pete I know the record from Mick back in the 7ts, as I thought I stated, but did not know it got pass the demo stage, I was unaware it was on POLYDOR, and as such did not know any info about it but I had a feeling I did not get a release for some reason, You ay be aware since moving to Wolves in 1980 I did not go to any events until PEP told me about the VIC I back into collecting, being away from the scene for a few years, I was amazed ,"Show many new quality sounds had come on the scene, and also how cheap classic records from the TORCH WIGAN years went for low prices, I got a TEMPOS DEMO £5 MOSIS SMITH DEMO £10 RINGLEADERS £3 AND MANY MORE, also how cheap I sold record many now fetch 3 figures, getting back to POLYDOR records like TONY MIDLETON, THE PARADOX, WERE BEING SORT AFTER, in fact your great find of BEN BROWN was new to me, and many people were after the classic rendition of "you turned" LINDA LEWIS, However I cant remember NEW YORK in the same way or at all, (I live a lonely life) To conclude the record reminds me of the standard "WINDY", any way PETE it's a good find, DAVE THE HERMIT

HI ALL,,,, This is a typical Mick S record of 77, I'm not saying it is a MS discovery, but has all the ingredients that I associate with him, takes me back to when I lived not far from him, on a Thursday night he would pick me up to go to Bedford, he would play me all his finds from that weeks hunting for dustys , in his gas fitters van, happy days, Here I am thinking I only needed 2 Polydor records to complete, and guess what you have dug up another one hat I must have, I am not a stamp collector but this really is a good one for the UK Northern collection, did it come out as a issue or is it DEMO only? it's rare, sort of thing I would do a trade for as it is hard to put a proper value to it as it is not in demand , well until now? nice find mate
  25. HI ALL In short it's ok to repair a record label, however f you are selling it and don't give all the details about it, just stating that it's VG+ will not do, if it has been repaired, any repairs done should be stated, if the label has been replaced as long as the buyer is aware it's ok, to conclude if you don't want a repaired record, don't buy it, it's down to the individual, however if you are against buying anything repaired, you must always drive a new car? DAVE K
