  1. Hi All I always liked the badge thing, even before the Northern Soul Badges, as A kid I wanted a set of US ARMY SGT STRIPES, & a FISH TAILED PARKER, WITH MEDELS & BADGES ON, I have always looked at the badge thing as being very MOD, as it made a statement, OK I do agree for some of you it may be crass, I can still vivadly remember the TORCH LOOK of a LEVI jacket with the TORCH bade above 1 pocket & the BLACK RIGHT ON FIST above the other, SKINNER JEANS and ROYALS, And I think the reason that I might give them more time, is the fact going to an All-Nighter was a long trip. for example WIGAN was 280 miles trip, and the badge was a statement, HERE IS THE 1st PROTOTYPE, FOR THE EAST ANGLIAN SOUL CLUB 1975, I AM NOT SURE BUT I THINK IT IS THE ONLY ONE MADE? IT WAS GIVEN TO ME BY KEN COX, DAVE 69
  2. £75 Pete is about the right price, this is not a common record, in my opinion, I think sometimes mate you are quoting dealers buying in prices, and not the common retail value? not everyone buys 3-500 records a month Pete, Don't get me wrong as I value records on rarity not on the current demand, the amount of records that are now half the price of 1 year ago? in the last 10 days there has been 2 Jimmy Thomas G&W DEMOS up for SALE, so going from that point of view perhaps you have a point? DAVE69
  3. HI ALL I like this thread, so my comments about this are so that I don't forget this site is for sharing info, not a off shoot of EBay. the question from BLAKE H in "what's in your box" looks like this to me :- I have a rare record, what's it worth? that's OK, but the bit that I find comical he does not want any one else to find out? why! because he wants to sell it, So Soulful that he is with this info he is not prepared to share? should he be told the truth or be mugged? as he just wants to sell it back to the most eager person that gives him a high value and has not got it! This is a classic muggers trick! I just want to no what mug buts it? for a bigger laugh DAVE 69
  4. HI ALL.....What a great label DIRECTION was, BROOKS & JERRY "I GOT WHAT IT TAKES" is the CLASSIC that we all loved when it was played on a SATURDAY NIGHTM But like a few records from this era it was purchased at record shops that were not asked to contribute there sales figures that were used, at the time to make up the top 50, if you read earl BLUES & SOUL MAGS, JA & DG were always slagging of the BBC, RADIO 1, got it the worst! Below are 3 DEMOS that really just reiterate what has been stated, DIRECTION as far as I can tell, from my own records, did not follow the EMI route with records that were never deleted, but re promoted with an updated DEMO, the ISLEY BROS "THIS OLD " & DARRELL BANKS "OPEN THE DOOR" got new DEMOS to cash in on the new rare soul scene, as BROOKS & JERRY were in the same class as the IMPRESSINS "you've been cheatin" as for the label, which is a classic label to collect, with some rare records on it, but for some reason it seems to-days scene just want about 5 of them??? below are the 3 different DEMOS Tommy Hunt is BRILLIANT & NOT EASY?? DAVE 69
  5. HI ALL this is easy! the very worst labels, are the one's that are disfigured by people, who have written on them, And I am not talking about, for example records that have come from US RADIO stations, or A&R, As it goes without saying that writing is a part of the records history, and put on the record for obvious review reasons, we may find this annoying now, however this was an important job for the station at the time, that's why again for example the record company official A side or PLUG SIDE is blacked out and XX XX are on the reverse side? The reason or Rule I also find acceptable on UK DEMOS, that come from the intended RADIO STATION, PRESS REVIEWER or PRO DJ, This would include records with NOC, as many PRO DJ would knock the centre out, this is a part of the records history, In my collection I have some records from RADIO CAROLINE, would anyone on this site try and remove the sticker, of course not. I remember, PEP had a 1st issue of DOBIE GREY "THE IN CROWD" YELLOW LONDON DEMO, WITH READY STEADY GO! stamped on it, to me it cant get any better, But when you find a rare record that has "RON 4 SHARON", KTF WIGAN RULES!, SK&F??? AND SO ON REALY ANNOYS ME, However I don't seem to care if it is a REGGAE RECORD?? that's my look on this subject DAVE 69

Hi All Jimmy James UK 45 has an excellent B side, it's also on the UK EP however they all play at half the volume, also on the Australian ASTRA LP Recorded live at the MARQUEE CLUB, with Alan Bown on the other side, UK LP does not have the track, why! I really don't no! but it must be rare as I sold it in BEDFORD 1977. Have never seen it since, I had a few Artists and all the covers were water damaged, some people say the Okeh Issue is rarer that the colored vinyl, It may well be but the Colored DEMO looks the best? Dave
  7. HI AS WE APPROACH THE HALF CENTURY OF MOTOWN UK RELEASES* AND NOT THAT FAR AWAY FROM THE 1st RED & WHITE $TATESIDE DEMOS, AND THE CELABRATION OF 50 YEARS OF THE TAMLA MOTOWN 500 SERIES, I thought it was time to look again at the values and what is HOT TO-DAY IN ....DOES IT HAVE TO BE MINT TO BE RARE???? HOWEVER NICE THEY ARE OR BAD, THERE IS ONLY A CERTAIN AMOUNT OF MINT ONES ABOUT, & I ONLY NO 1 SET OF MINT R&W DEMOS? AND THAT MAY HAVE BEEN SPLIT UP?? Over the last 30 years the TMG500 series has been lusted after, long before the big money went on rare Northern Soul the goal of most collectors was to complete UK soul labels, For me I tried to get every release on the TAMLA MOTOWN LABEL, And it was not until I got to know John Wilkinson from Notts, in 1970/71 that I saw or took notice of the US MOTOWN, TAMLA, GORDY, SOUL, VIP Labels, my very 1st US MOTOWN record was "Nothings to good for my baby" Steve Wonder TAMLA Records, I remember showing it to my cousin who had some Rare MOTOWN like the TRIBUTE TO UNCLE RAY LP, However it was not until 1972 that I saw my 1st RED & WHITE TAMLA MOTOWN DEMO And by the end of 74 I decided that I would give up collecting TAMLA MOTOWN UK all together after finding out that a collector who lived in Langham Place of Oxford St had as far as I was concerned every thing from LONDON AMERICAN, FONTANA, ORIOLE, $TATESIDE & TAMLA MOTOWN, This put me in a HELPLESS situation? (pun very much intended for the astute?) However in 2012 I find myself without intention having around 150 UK DEMOS out of the red & whites there are some minty ones, some ex noc ones and some really bad ones (but play great) So lets prepare for the 50th Birthday of TAMLA MOTOWN with what's HOT & what's NOT? values. :wicked:HERE ARE 4 RECORDS TO START WITH, THE TMG555 IS A CLASSIC COST ME £15 STILL MINTY THE UPTIGHT HAS NOC MINTY £10 SHOTGUN MINTY £15, GRT READY VG+ NOC Car Boot £1. 4 CLASSIC RECORDS, THAT THE WORLD KNOWS HOWEVER IN DIFFERANT CONDITION, THE ISLEY BROS "THIS OLD HART OF MINE" TO ME IS ONE OF THE VERY BEST MOTOWN RELEASES AND I PERSONALY RATE THE RECORD AS 100 X MORE DESIRABLE THAN SOME OF THE CRAP IN THE 530# DAVE
  8. Hi All I have just had a good look at some of my CHICARGO records including the CHESS group of labels, and although I don't pretend to be an expert at all, the only difference I can tell is the Johnny Sayles record with the words distributed by ..... 7 the DJ copies are manufactured by CHESS, and the one without are still CHESS printed labels, so you could argue that the DEMO & the distributed words on the label are 2nd pressings otherwise it would read MFG, BY CHESS PRODUCING CORP. If you see my point, also the wax is similar to smaller CHICARGO LABELS??? DAVE
  9. MIKE All I can say about the Flamingo, I have already said, however what I can't say in words was the electric atmosphere, that hit you as you entered Wardour St, the same is true for all the West End Clubs, and I suppose to some degree similar to those who go to the 100 CLUB for the 1st time, however, Today's SOHO is nothing like how it was in the 60s. Again I have written about that, The Flamingo differs from most clubs of the time as it was Cosmopolitan
  10. Pete I would advice you to think! before you use some of the above methods, they may well work, However the record is a PYE And the labels will look dreadful if you put any thinner type liquid on for more than 2 seconds, I would suggest a thin paint brush dabbed in lighter fuel cover the area a bit by bit approach dust with a dust or fag ash on sticky or tacky surface then suck of with vacuum cleaner however you do it, it will still show up darker once removed, on PYE labels RED ATLANTICS and some POLYDOR labels, if you are selling the record leave it to the buyer, as a sticker mark will only knock about £15 of a rare British 45, but a poor attempt to deceive the buyer could not 50% of the same record, As I say think first if any of the above are known to work on a PYE label. I would also like to no? my tip for everyone is look at web pages that do fine art restorations? DAVE

HI what are you after the the US Pressing?
  12. HI ALL I ACTUALLY LIKE THE RECORD, HOWEVER! I have not got it in my collection for 1 reason it aint worth the price, for a non soul record £125 is the very top price! thats for a DEMO, in fact Murial Day PAGE ONE DEMO is far better and rarer? but it seems to have got tagged with the trash records of the 70s but in real terms it us a good record that never comes up for sale!
  13. Hi All I was ging to post somthing differant? but for most of you this will be differant, and a world away from what you are used to? However Brothers & Sisters this record is in the roots of rare uptempo dance music, and played live at the Twisted Wheel in 1969 on PYE 7N 17631 the Ferris Wheel - the NA NA song I hope you like it as much as I do DAVE https://youtu.be/V-Wu1HDSLHg
  14. Hi All the best and easy way with RCA is to check the soul record, against ELVIS records as he released records 2/3 times a year in every year of the 60s you can marry any issue or DEMO, as tons of info on Elvis than on any other RCA VICTOR dave
  15. Hi All must say I agree with you, as the Butch Baker that was booted about the same time is completely different to the Johnny Sayles as the only differences are very small in comparison, in fact if I remember correctly the Johnny Sayles issue & Demo come from a different pressing plant altogether, as I have never seen a White Demo of it, only the same label and the same color, unlike Mamie Galore demos which are blue & white with skyline or white with St Lawrence on, as there are so many variations, I could only state that I am 100% that the Butch Baker that has off centre vocal is wrong for sure? I for one, would like to find out more about this record? it may have been done by the same person who did "my loves a monster on CHI-TOWN but that's just me guessing DAVE
  16. HI KEV, Tgat is exactly why I started the thread, it has to be eclectic in form to make it enjoyable, for every one, it does not matter if it is woth 50p or £5000, if it turns you on and you want to share the tune, especialy if you feel "it's to good to be forgotten, what more can I say" It also allows you to recieve feedback from DJ & collectors alike, And if you want to be a DJ but will be seldom asked, your choice, for 1 day is just the same BUZZ! well I get emence enjoyment from the thread, thats why I dont post every day as even that sometimes may put others of posting, I would love to have a club to go to and here what brilliant records that have been picked by all members rather than have the same stuff being played all the while, thanks for your comments, DAVE
