As a collector of UK Soul and a label completes, you have to take the rare Northern Soul head of (RESPECTFULY) and look at the the UK collecting scene properly, how many times have I heard the story of Reggae 45s worth only a few quid? back in the 8ts yes but not in 2010. many are worth more than UK classic Soul. Jeanette White "Music" A&M DEMO in 1980 was about £15 now its about £20??records like Sam Dee's "Lonely for my Baby" I use to sell for £12 in 86 now £200+ Contempo records used to be seen as Joke in the North following the crass Major Lance "ain't no Soul" very apt. and apart from a couple of records Montclairs being 1 no one bought the records except in London area, this is the reason why some records are so scarce as even those that were bought sold in quantities of 10s not 100s the 2 records I posted are worth £200+ for the Pair as they are quality soul, if you can buy them for £20 I will give you £25 for them any day so would Ian Clark? if you had £500 to buy these records tonight how many would you get? my valuation comes from personal Knowledge and looking at Dealers lists, I have added 4 more great records from Contempo you price them? none of them cost me over £5 but that's a ELEPHANT to the matter?? Graham this is a fabulous Soul label, managed by John Abby the man who worked at Islands SUE Records in 67/8 also did a soul mag, BLUES & SOUL which was a must have read up unto 1980 when most of us followed record collector A-Z of UK Soul Chris Savory (RIP) all records are good even the POP stuff I liked Some of the records are very collectible. here are 2 that would cost you £200+ these days:- DAVE KIL

How To Spot Origanal
Last weekend, I splashed out £10 on 5 45s:- Tommy James UK "somebody cares" M-, Ruben Bell "Leave my Kitten Alone" FUNK M-, Johnny Bragg Lebejay white label??? Sharon Ridley "To make a long thing short"(Van McCoy) and Joey Dee & Star-lighters "HOW CAN I FORGET" CANEIL VG. It was not until today that I gave them a spin, it was then I noticed that the Joey Dee was not the typical BOOT that I remember way back, when God's Dog was a pup!! JM guide to boots did not help as the info he has written definitely does not apply to this record, as I never owned one back in the 7ts I am hoping this is a proper one its on plastic not styrene, DAVE KIL

Who Were The Trammps
WHITHOUT DOUBT THE TRAMPS WERE NOT ONLY A TOP PHILIDELPHIA INTERNATIONAL VOCAL GROUP, THE EPITIMISED THE VIRTUE / SIGMA STUDIO SOUND OF THE MID TI LATE 6ts. AND TYPIPHYIED THE EAST COAST HARMONY SOUND. i TOURED WITH THE BAND IN 75 IN THE UK, AND ITS ONLY WHEN YOU WORK WITH A GROUP LIKE THIS YOU GET TO HEARE THE REAL HARMONICS OF SOUL WITH THE RIGHT MATIERIAL THEY WOULD BE EQUAL TO THE DELLS, MANY NORTHERN SOUL TRACKS FROM THEM ON HARTHON ACTIC PI BUT MY FAV IS A WIGAN CLASSIC " RAINMAKER" A KNOCK OUT RECORD DAVE KIL.

The Tears Of A Clown
Hi Ady "tears of a clown" was a massive sound as a reissue in 69 and along with the must have LPs of that year Motown Chart-busters Vol 3 (perhaps the ultimate various artist LP of all-time) comes up this great record. in 1971/72 the Inst of it was on a CONTOUR LP "introducing the Detroit Sound" as a young DJ it was a very popular request, as was the Inst of "Band of Gold" on Studio2, 2 records these days that would never be played but they were still being searched for into 73, good old times, sadly by 71 Motown had passed until the Temptations "Tell Me it's Just a Rumor" & Contours "Baby Hit & Run" budget LPs the tracks fitted in with Afternoon on the Rhino & Book to Bach DAVE KIL

"COLD & BREEZY NICE & EAST" EVENING BADGSTERS & PETE S....I think my point was Miss-translated a bit on this subject! I also collect artifacts and memorabilia that are linked into a certain period of my life, I do believe that I would by even a packet of RIZLAs if had the for HMP-PRISOS & HMB-BORSTALS, NOT FOR SALE TO THE PUBLIC. as collecting is all about our ways of getting comfort & is a self gratification to receive "strokes" Dr Erick Burns coined the word after observation that most people in the western world, are unhappy? we will always greet a cat or a dog with affection freely by a pat or a stroke, but to each other we are suspicious of the dangers of engagement, this is what makes us Human "I think so I am", So our need for warmth over 6t million years has gone from the basic needs of food warmth shelter of hunter gatherers into instead of the big kill to support the extended family with food which is now the preserve of females, we have turned into obsessive collectors of the rare elite, so powerful is the need for the adrenaline hit from the purchase of the dealer we are succeed like a drug addict for the first of more & more blinded by the light of desire, this obsession is very similar to the rush of crack?......many individuals on the rare soul scene have been and become to self centred over the years almost making it's value Authentic as if a badge is worth £500?? and I for one would not deprive anyone of the right of liberty of freedom of choice, or there democratic right to pay whatever for there desire to buy and the right to sell, that was not my point, you can do whatever you want especially in the UK as it is the safest place on earth to live "there ain't gonna be a Sumani in Darby and all my life I called it a tidal wave?? and the other issues of preventing people to listen to a record or buy medals is a Big Red Herring to deflect or overt attention away from the issue I made and stick buy the badge is worth more than money to someone who was there at the time than someone who was not? of course if you went to Wigan Casino at any time why not collect the badges that come from the Club my point was about rarity & purposes of it's significance, but £500 it's this mindset that the elite have! deprives many from hearing so many hundreds of soul classics. Hence my comments that certain DJs should hand over the controls to a more deserving soulster and not keep on exploiting the scene out of there last ££££ IF you don't know what I am talking about? buy a couple of Psychology Books and get to know yourself before it's to late/?"You Know what I mean??.. THE DUKE & DUTCHES OF STOTFOLD "YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN JOHN"??DO YER! DAVE(MORE THAN SKIN DEEP) KIL (c)2009- Wigan Casino - First Allnighter - Badge
Hi Mr Badge :- If you read all of this article you will see that not if any people from the 23rd September 1973 did attend the All-Nighter on that date? also my comments about the incident in October 1973 I need to work out if it was the 2nd or 3rd All-Nighter at the Casino but thats the night of my 1st night at the Casino. In the Real World at the begiuning the numgers were up on the first night but there was still only 500 in the place in comparason to what it was like 1 year on? as so Few badges exist and those that are sold by dealers at £500 have to be shunned and I for one would take it of them and give it to someone who never got one on the 1st night or just keep it, call me old fashoned but I could never understand why someone who did not attend the Casino in 73 would want to own this badge?? it's the samr as bying a fake degree and thinking you have a reel one? If someone gives you the badge that is differant because you will know it's provanance however if you are going to sell it why not offer it to the origanal Casino goers, as to further my Piont the 1st Anaversary badge is worth Jack no matter if you get £1 or £200 for it, as mine is priceless as it has all the memories of the night attached to it, My attitude to this and other aspects of the Soul Scene seem to be lost on some! for example DJing with records that are not origanal or with the exception of people like Adt C Richard S Ian L and others who woork for the music Industry who are allowed to promote records legally, This used to be frowned on and as such should stay at home in your collection, and the use of CDs is a big no NO1 but there of course exceptions to the rule, I have a copy of the 1st All-Nighter Badge and I must state to those who do have an origanal this is a far cheaper way of owning one, As are quite a few replica badges, the Howard Mallet Repro id very well made in my pinion I would love an origanal However, this is also the same for my VAVA bade from 73 that Just faded away by the mid 7ts love to have one of those back but at the prices that you ar quoteing Bollocks, this is not a personal attack on yourself, as your price are in line with my own observations. IF You have more information write it, rather than wait for questions & remember "Do KEEP the FAITH" DAVE(ANACHY RULES OK!)KIL. - Wigan Casino - First Allnighter - Badge
