  1. He He! Bloke makes a bit of dosh and he's portrayed as some kind of evil pantomime Baron. Wish I'd his vinyl buying stash! He should be flayed alive by a cat o nine tails for this though... Regards, Dave https://youtu.be/cpcztzs15iU
  2. It's worth mentioning that all money donated will go straight to the Funeral Home and not via the family. Message has also gone out to the Hitsville Soul Club members database. Regards, Dave
  3. It's a great song. Can't think of a poor version actually. Great male version by Spyder Turner too: https://youtu.be/qZLbbMCLH_E
  4. This morning's offering: I suspect this may be the same Billy Wells as the lead singer of The Crescents outings on Reserve, he also fronted a band on Mercedes records. This Tampa/Miami uptempo number's back beat may be a tad fast for some but I really like it. I've sold this over a dozen times but always end up buy another one. Regards, Dave https://youtu.be/IDvlEbCN6_4
  5. Ady, Please come back and remind us when you release Lou's version on vinyl. I'll take a demo (if available), and a stocker. Regards, Dave
  6. Pete who? Regards, Dave
  7. Here's a few more classics: Regards, Dave
  8. Todays offering: Ms Mary Wells, one of my favourite femme soul artists. Claimed to have been recorded in Chicago but I'm not sure? Speaking to Carl Davis a few years ago he confirmed that he had recorded with Mary at Golden World studios in an attempt to recreate her earlier success. Can't You See Your Losing Me' has the Funks written all over it, so does this for me. Either way a great slice of mid tempo femme soul for the price of an 'Arrow Bar' (Ask yer Dads) Regards, Dave https://youtu.be/tQ5sqMvogPA
  9. DJ and Dance 'workshops? What's all that about then? Teaching 50 year olds to DJ and Dance? If you ain't got the vibe after 50 years you might wanna look elsewhere for your 15 mins of fame! Regards, Dave

  11. Gonna take a liberty this morning and post another one. That'll be a hatrick of proper singing from a proper singer. Fantastico! as we say down our way. Regards, Dave https://youtu.be/apl6dXCglOk
  12. This morning's offering: A voice like a medieval battering ram. Had this for 30 years. Great record that will have another time in the spotlight I reckon. "There's nothing NEEEEEEEEEEW...!" Regards, Dave https://youtu.be/Wbci8tFxHDE
  13. Thanks Ady, I've taken out the link and PM'd you. Regards, Dave .
  14. Hi All, I'm currently working on a comprehensive book documenting Philadelphia's contribution to the soul world. I'm including a chapter on overseas record collectors who have visited the city and scored vinyl hits off artists/writers/producers etc. If anyone has any good stories about any of the East Coast distributors, or Frank Virtue, Joe Tarsia, Billy Jackson, Weldon A McDougall III, Jimmy Bishop, Bobby Martin, Thom Bell, or any other artist/person/people that they think would be a good inclusion then could I ask you to contact me via PM or at hitsville2648@earthlink.net and I'll see if it can be included. I'm not really looking for tales of the time folks scored a couple of Arctic Demos from Val Shively type things, but more about the contact made with the people who made the music and distributed it from the source. Thanks in anticipation. Regards, Dave
  15. This morning's offering: Guy Hennigan's cover (Detroit Strings), Released by Neil Ruston's on his Kool Kat label on a red wax promo and a black wax issue EP. A fantastic instr. Think Guy told me this came from Ed Wulfrum. Million dollar music for the price of a chip butty! Love it. Regards, Dave https://youtu.be/4MZQHKWZN0A
  16. This morning's offering: Not sure who these girls are (Bob A?), but pulled this out yesterday, haven't played this in 25 years. Great girlie dancer with a nice piano break midway. Anyone ever hear this out nowadays anywhere? Regards, Dave https://youtu.be/IkCqw-O2eaQ
  17. Great shout Bob. Regards, Dave
  18. This mornings offering; It's actually 2. They could have been recorded at the exact same session! Detroit's musical signature all through the pair of 'em. Regards, Dave https://youtu.be/V-roUAXiDj8 https://youtu.be/gKODMGeot1o
  19. Great shout out! LP on order. Regards, Dave
  20. Probably have folks howling at the moon for posting this but this is one my favourite sax breaks of any 'Northern' record. He was a well trained, classical musician and I am fortunate to have found the original test pressings of the two sides of the original LP complete with his bio which is quite impressive. Break starts at 2.32. Check out the comments. Wonder how many people STILL think this was the George Clinton of Geo-Si-Mik and not as he really is, some Mid Western white boy with a horn? Regards, Dave
  21. Great story. Thanks for sharing it. Here's Otis converting a huge crowd of hippies that soul is really where it's at with the same song! Regards, Dave https://youtu.be/GGlKJDEI1Nk
  22. Reworking the Motown Temptations classic: Regards, Dave https://youtu.be/0xBcpq2Dn3g
  23. Here's one of my favourites: Regards, Dave https://youtu.be/5fOkBtYnEoo
  24. Every now and then a talent comes along that contributes large changes to a musical landscape. people like Chuck Berry, Little Richard, Elvis, Beatles etc are great examples. The sad thing being that sometimes these talents don't get a chance to realise the longevity they deserve. Otis Redding was one such talent. For me, Otis Redding was THE archetypal soul performer. His records are truly soulful, his vocal delivery could be as tender as gossamer or as tough as granite, he could sing it all. But, for me, it's his live perfomances that push him head and shoulders above most others. He had that magical ability to smother his audience, to wrap himself around them and draw them in, to make it appear that he was singing in a phone booth , alone, with no inhibitions to restrict him. That ability is priceless. A big giant of a man physically, it always pleases me when people who worked with him are asked to sum him up, as the constant phrase used is 'a gentle soul'. To me eternal regret, I never got to see him sing live. But the recordings of his performances are all over the net so I've started this little thread so that other fans can drop them off here and share their favorite live performances of his. Otis Redding was a soul singer. Enough said. Regards, Dave
