  1. Have you heard "We're Almost There" from 1975? Fantastic tune.
  2. The flipside to this, "Tie Me Tight", is fantastic IMO. I'd really like to have a copy if anyone's got one they don't need. Bob Kayli's real name was Robert Gordy, Berry's brother.

Don't know this one. Is it a version of the classic rocker by Bobby Lewis on Beltone? Sound clip anyone? Also, that Bobby Parker 45 you have there is one of my all-time fave 45s. Fantastic track.

For yourself? Not exactly "your" kinda sound with those screaching female vocals. If you're on about "Let Go, Baby", that is... decent dirgey backing though.
  8. How strange... picked up a copy of the LP here in my hometown in Sweden yesterday for about £0.15. I like that tune as well. Nice with a brass-heavy boogie kinda feeling and then there's that dreadful/brilliant guitar solo right in the middle. Was also issued as an Anchor 45 by the way.
  9. I'm a sucker for the flipside to "Love Song", "I'll Always Love You". Nice uptempo dancer. Great group.
  10. Whoa! Hadn't heard that tune in ages, but went to a C86/indie/twee club this past saturday and they played it to a packed dancefloor with people singing along etc. Sounded very nice indeed.

I did not say that it was unknown, just that it wasn't "widely known". Most records aren't widely known, really.

No, I don't think it's particularly well known... not in the "Do I Love You", "Love You Baby" type of way at least. A great and cheap gritty soul tune. I prefer his equally cheap "I'm In Danger" on Checker though. Many of his releases are good, just pick them all up. There are at least two different artists named Cash McCall though so beware.

Me again... £10-£15 seems to be an appropriate "value" for Otis Leavill. This just sold on eBay, vinyl copy, properly listed, with label scan etc.: https://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...item=4713619601 Anyone paying £40-£75 for this 45 must be very, very, very impatient.

Both those prices are over the top. It should be £15-£25.

  19. Indeed. Release info for the two "I Can't Make It Anymore" releases: 1967 - MGM 13692 - I Can't Make It Anymore / Don't Hold Back 1971 - MGM 14263 - I Can't Make It Anymore / I'm Alive With A Lovin' Feeling

I have a swedish Tamla Motown copy around here somewhere if anyone's interested. Send me an offer if so. It's in EX condition (at least) and plays great.
  21. I disagree with you on everything you wrote above. But you knew that... To me there is no such thing as a "wrong" dance beat. Just people who don't know how to move to music that doesn't come with a 4/4 thump thump thump thump beat.
  22. You sure introduced me at least to "Years Of Tears". I only knew that 45 for the flipside earlier. 2 good sides made me splash out £20 on it quite soon after I found out about it. The Frank Polk version is better than Rivingtons IMO, what does it matter whether it's any good for "northern purposes"?
  23. What else is there? Nah, just kidding. Yes, I'm very into gritty r&b/soul that leans heavily towards the rock'n'roll side of things. I like my soul/r&b with an edge. Saying that, I also love plenty of non-gritty soul as well... Ahhh! I love it all. I'm glad you liked my selection!
  24. So you're saying that you actually LIKE the "girly backing"?
  25. Interesting how taste differs. ALL other versions, including myself singing it in the shower, are better than the Maurice Jackson version in my opinion. It's that dreadful opera singer in the background which completely ruins it for me.
