Patti Jo - (Patti Jo + Barry Smith ?) - Merged Topic
The long versions of "Make Me Believe In You" and "Ain't No Love Lost" on the "Disco Gold" LP are re-edits made by Tom Moulton. He had access to the master tapes and the original 7" releases were most likely mixed down from longer recordings, so Moulton could re-arrange and speed the recordings up as he saw fit to make them more suitable for plays in disco clubs.

The Sound Of New Orleans
NOTE that Tommy Ridgley recorded two different versions of this tune. The first one is on RIC (#984) from 1961 and then he cut a later one on RONN (#36) in 1970. Both are great in my opinion, but might be good to have in mind when buying it.

Worlds Most Expensive Seller?
That's strange. Check this page under Insertion Fees > Media: https://pages.ebay.co.../sell/fees.html Also, the final value fee is always 9% of the closing amount (but never more than £40, i.e. if you sell a record for £2000 the fee is still only £40 despite that 9% out of £2000 actually would be £180). The above goes for the co.uk site. Listings on .com is different. The basic insertion fee is never more than $0.25-$2.00 though (if you don't list in two categories, have a subtitle etc.). The final value fee is always 9% of the closing amount (but never more than $50).

James Brown - No Funk Here
That's a different version of the same tune (from 1961). The version in the YouTube clip is only available on the "Hell" LP as far as I know.

Hugh Boyton We're Gonna Make It
I think it originated on the SoulStrut forum: https://www.soulstrut.com/index.php/forums/viewthread/64091/ https://www.soulstrut.com/index.php/forums/viewthread/64125/ Happy reading.

Seriously, give it a rest.

Hugh Boyton We're Gonna Make It
I fully understand that and people can do whatever suits them best. Was just giving my view of things.

Hugh Boyton We're Gonna Make It
Give it a rest, I wasn't having a go at anyone, just stating my thoughts on this. Life is indeed very short, that's why I'll never understand the need to buy reissues at £10-£20 a pop to get ONE tune to play at home, when that money could be spent much more wisely and result in more musical pleasure. This is all in my opinion ofcourse. I'm not forcing anyone to share my view.

What Are The Current Big Spins Of The Moment?
Did you get the copy that Manship auctioned, or do you have an hitherto unknown copy of it?

What Are The Current Big Spins Of The Moment?
That's correct. Have been after it since I heard it on Finewine's show in 2003/2004 or so. I was by the way the second highest bidder on the copy that Haim Kenig auctioned on eBay a couple of years back which you got cheap (I had no idea it would prove to be that rare!). The copy I now finally have gotten my hands on is in superb shape, somewhere between EX and EX+ on both sides and plays perfect. Don't know if refosoul is up, but I'll try to post both sides of the 45 if it's possible. EDIT: just tried, refosoul is not working.

The thing is that I don't get how a reissue (legal or not) can suffice when you otherwise collect original issue 45s? On the other hand I love CDs (unlike a lot of people on here it seems) . It's probably my absolute favourite format as far as home listening goes and I don't mind having tunes that I can't afford original 45s of on CD or other digital media. Horses for courses, I guess.

Coasters Vinyl Boot?
As Pete wrote: your copy is a boot. Above is the most obvious giveaway. The original has got 65C-9290-1 in the deadwax. It's all explained in the latest Manship price guide.

Hugh Boyton We're Gonna Make It
Isn't there some kind of annoying sound drop-out on the intro of the yellow reissue as well? I don't see how the yellow label issue can be of interest to anyone who only collect original issue 45s. It's a bit like making do with the gold label reissue from the 90s of Four Voices "Your Love Is Getting Stronger" and pretending that it's an original. Might as well play the tunes from CD/MP3/WAV in my opinion.

Freddie Scott - I'll Be Gone
That 45 sure achieved an unexpectedly high price. The second-highest bid was $201.77. The third highest bid was $31.99. If the top bidder hadn't come in with a gigantic bid it would've sold for $32.50. So it hasn't gone up in price, I was just lucky this time (and the payment has been recieved). The two highest bidders are both regular customers of mine who usually don't mind paying over-the-top to get the records they want.

Billy Butler And The Impressions, Love Me
There's an alternative version of "Love Me" included on the "Indelible Impressions" compilation CD on Castle/Sequel from 1999 which is a different take than the 45 issued as CURTOM 1959 and CURTOM 1973. Much more Curtis-sounding vocals, but nowhere near as brilliant as the take released on the original 45.

I Believe In Miracles - Mark Capanni
All 3 of Mark Capanni's recordings are in refosoul. All are good (especially "If Life Was A Ferris Wheel" which is phenomenal). I don't quite get why people think of them - or try to make them into - soul recordings though? They've got far more in common with the west coast / AOR stuff from about the same time by J.D. Souther, Jackson Browne and especially Ned Doheny. I don't think Capanni's goal was to out-do Tyrone Davis that day inte studio when he cut those tracks!
