  1. i only play a record at home, to test it plays ok . i'll then clean as required
  2. ironically,,, i watched him at Hinckley leisure centre, playing a Telecaster , i was mesmerised by the clean, beautiful sound he got from it, with no effort. a God and a legend!
  3. UK issue here, should you settle for that instead of demo
  4. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/With_a_Little_Help_from_My_Friends_(Joe_Cocker_album) My band were discussing this tonight, who played guitar, who played drums etc? So I googled and found out the backing singers were a melting pot of talent (I never knew this) . Kind of โ€˜soulโ€™ related, when you clock the names ๐Ÿ‘
  5. She's worth every penny ... just hearing her backing vocals on George Benson's 'Give me the night' album, fantastic !
  6. Not heard any recent stuff from Patti Austin, but she is/was a fabulous singer. I'll have a listen. I've heard the latest offering from Chaka tho. back to original Q, Martha Reeves shoulda hung hers up years ago. I saw her in Stafford, around 83, she was ropey even then. I saw her again in 2013, god awful . Tina Turner is another (not sure if she has already?). Elton John, Rod Stewart, both past their best, I'm sure there are many others out there. ... Huge respect to their success and history, I love loads of (those named) their stuff, but of late, not so good .
  7. I have a few sleeves. Penny Farthing for certain, will dig em out
  8. He's the 'GEE BABY' fella I'd forgotten how bad Cats eyes is : wow
  9. Shall we say 'disliked' instead of Hated ?
  10. I'm not sure if it is the O'jays William Powell . unless someone can confirm ?
  11. i could'nt have put it better myself ! it used to be our 'go to' song, when i played it in a band a few years back.... want to get a crowd on their feet? Do a rendition of 'The Snake' Fabulous record, frowned upon by many (for good reason im sure), but i like it !
  12. 'The Most Hated' song, was the question. the only way to do it , is a poll, not individual choices. i can listen to the snake any day of the week, AW is a fabulous singer. but some songs i cant bear ! Bad vocals do it for me, so Margaret little,(awful vocals, superb arr.) The Deadbeats (flat as a witches tit), Antellects (sounds like its off centre), Martha Reeves ๐Ÿ˜†, William Powell (more awful vocals). . and a few more, even instrumentals like Interplay send me to the bar . I know we all have differing tastes, this is just my opinion on Vocals, nothing more some of these are big ticket rare, we can see/hear why ....... So lets start a poll

I walked out of Oddfellows anniv Niter, 1984 and vowed that was my last one! it was, until i went to Kings Hall, in 97 . I'm still here , just. the last few years ive done 100's of soul nights, hand bagger nights (no disrespect, its a term we all relate to), Niters, Classic oldies, Rare stuff etc. last week i went to a venue that concentrates on underplayed and forgotten oldies. it was true to form, i heard stuff that i hadnt for many years, plus loads of stuff that was new to me. the attendance was very good, the club layout was ideal, i shall go again. but answer to the original question, I dont do a great deal, i still enjoy going, but i pick the ones that really take my fancy, one weekender a year (plus Charity soul if required), couple of niters and a few nights here n there. nothing like what i used to do , a few years back
  14. look at this saturday, Around Nottingham ! : Alfreton, Underwood, Ilkeston - now there's another within a stones throw, Newstead wmc,(Annesley) ALL within a stones throw of each other !
  15. OUCH... I thought i'd heard the worst that was played on the Northern Soul scene, but this one takes it , hands down
  16. Interesting stories, great stuff ! I'm not sure if i went to a different venue, during those later days, judging by the 'empty' comments? I went xmas 79 (heard 'what christmas means to me' - Stevie Wonder๐Ÿคจ), at the time when RS was on fire! I remember Rushbrooke playing Trade Martin, so some of my faculties havent left me. there were Some fabulous records played that night......I Also attended two Oldies anniversaries and the 7th Anniv. All 4 times i went, it was rammed Considering im very 'oldies' oriented , The stand out record for me at any of my visits, was 'Anything i can do' Will Collins, I've never seen a dancefloor bounce like that, EVER !
  17. looking for a decent copy of the above album. missed one on Ebay a month ago, (forgot auction end time). sadly that went for under a tenner, but im happy to spend a bit more ๐Ÿคจ
  18. I went to a Bretby Niter and remember CK giving it a huge plug/intro, telling us to 'wait for the beat' that was when i heard it, so i guess around 96/97 ? (i got a speeding ticket that night, so dates are pretty accurate)
  19. 2nd issue, i see the stamped matrix in the photo
  20. i've heard it a few times over the last couple of years.
