  1. Wouldn't it be dependant on the condition of the mailer ? I reuse mailers regularly to send out my 45's but I only select those that are in good condition and have not been reused time and again. I have received records where the mailer has about 5 different addresses on it and has been around the world three times - these get binned straight away.
  2. Right from my dim and distant memory......I'm a bit senile now........Mick Brown told me this so I better get him to give you the full story as I probably missed loads. Many moons ago Mick and Franc (I think) visited Jerry Reed (JR) at his place. As Dave has already pointed out he also had the Jeree label. The story goes that the Green Dolphin output was for the tracks they thought wouldn't quite cut it and Jeree was for the better tracks. Anyway the subject got around to L Allen, and JR said that he did not press it as Larry Allen only L Allen. He said the artists name was Leonard not Larry and at the time of Mick's visit L was working as a sports reporter on a newspaper or radio station...something like that. Anyway Mick or Franc would probably fill in blanks or correct this.
  3. I think its already been acknowledged and confirmed on other FH threads that the seller did get copies of the old Prix stock.

  7. Brooklyn Born and the current seller are one and the same person. He is currently advertising copies as "first press". This 45 has been the source of debate on here for a long time. It seems that the general consensus is that the first press has a darker orange label and the ones freely available have a lighter orange colour. I think Butch also confirmed the first copies he found were the darker orange. Interestingly when Garry Cape was involved in Grapevine we had a conversation about Fredrick Hymes as they tracked him down and wanted to release it but he wasn't interested. From my now fading memory he also denied that the Tony Hymes and Soul People version on Azbill was him. Clearly if you listen to both its him. I think he worked as a hunting guide or something like that at the time. Dave Welding will probably know the full story.
  8. Jazz Club.......mmmm Nice https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uCymAH6r2Tc&list=PLaZXgWqYgoC9zn9ICkw_FGx0fWEIhMf5d&index=2
  9. There are many rare and desirable LP's for the soul scene. Its difficult to list them and there are not really any specific labels to look out for, so the easiest thing is to checkout the dealer websites and see what they are selling. You may have a label such as Stang which was mainly a soul output label but only a couple of the LP's are worth any significant money. The V/A LP's do have some interest, but in general its single artist LP's that maybe have a great track that didn't see a 45 release. So something like the Optimistics on Turbo with the Say It Baby track would be a good example of this. My advice is look at dealer sites, check ebay "sold items" or Popsike database against anything you find that looks interesting. It should give you a base level to work from.
  10. Val Shively's record shop has been a right of passage for many UK travellers over the years. Always worth a visit. Supposedly 4 Million records. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sozuXWI-Kg4
  11. I remember it well Rob. You and your disco stuff Hope your well mate Just pulled out another of your spins ... Count Indigo - My unknown love.....remember that one ? Andy
  12. I think you need to put this in the sales forum
  13. For some reason the SS copies even in relatively poor condition are going thru Ebay for large amounts. So I think £250 would not be unreasonable based on this.
  14. That's true enough Dave as with all these books on the market there are some errors. But thinking about it logically, it has existed in SHS book for years, there must be a recording as its been booted on 45 and appears on a CD I believe, and they have a label that's exactly like the other Jenges 45's I have. OK its easy to photo shop but in the back of my mind I do recall this 45. It was back in the days of the Hollingwood in Chesterfield and Rob Wigley spun the Indelgents as a c/u and showed me what it was. Within a few months of searching I had the Indelgents and Dream merchants on Jenges and I seem to recall that there were other 45's when I looked but I didn't know them. Could be the old mind playing tricks of course....."when I were a lad" .
  15. OK fella. I do agree with you tho about certain DJ's having some sort of kudos and a £5 record becoming a £100 record over night because DJ X played it. Its total BS. However didn't want to divert the thread.
  16. There are people out there who have been on the scene for decades and are not returnees trying to dictate to anyone and we have always been interested in the music rather than the "scene". In fact its returnees in the main who want to hear the same old , same old ...that why there are so many oldies events with the baggy trouser and beer towel brigade. Also there are thousands of people on the soul scene and beyond who are collectors and who are interested in labels, groups, authenticity etc. You completely miss the point with your rant, this is not about kudos or bragging rights, the thread is about the rarity/obscurity, the set of labels and their output and the authenticity of said record. If you want to rant about DJ's etc then start your own thread.
  17. My copy has a much deeper red and is a shiney label. Maybe this is just a bit worn ? That's true Chalks, but I'm sure I saw a copy of Satans Breed years ago....but maybe my memory is playing tricks.
  18. No. As per my previous post it has been listed in the Soul harmony Singles book for years and the entries come from peoples collections.
  19. Cant really be an unreleased track as it appeared in the Soul harmony Singles book and that was published years ago. It may be a strange name but what about Sins of Satan - dance and free your mind - there's another strange one. As Dave W pointed out there is also the 'Sin' label associated with Jenges and Renee where the label is Red with black 'Satan Masks' as the design.
  20. The SHS book gives it as Jenges 5006, but as its all a bit of mess it may well be on Renee 5006 along with the Dream merchants - Since you left / girl I need Renee 5006. I'm going for a lie down
  21. Interesting stuff. I note the titles above and according to the Soul Harmony Singles the Satan's Breed release is listed as 5006 Since you left me / Road Runner, but your copy has The Girl I Need and number 4545. The Indelgents is a Jenges 4547 number and Harry Moon on Sin is 4553. But the numbering for the other Jenges, Renee and Sin labels all fit together based on a 5**** numbering. I'd love to know how it all fits together and what about Harry and Vee Vee on Sin 4554............this soul record malarkey's all a bit confusing
  22. Fella's got a voice..... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=anuQnAfNO0g
  23. Not sure where you get this interpretation from ? Nothing in the comments suggests this is a "special pressing for the Northern Soul Scene" or "its was never issued anywhere". According to Dave T : "Richard Brooks told me that it was repressed by the label, because the first run sold out, he also had both pressings at his house. " According to Dave W: "...groups Nasco sides, all of which were heavily imported into the UK, as new releases to find great appreciation with both the Northern and Modern Soul scene’s of the early 70’s"
  24. So as I understand it....both label versions are legitimate in the sense that they were both issued by the label, but the black and silver design was done after the coloured label to meet demand for further copies ? Wouldn't our American cousins just refer to this as "first and second press" as opposed to "original and reissue" ?
  25. The were the Formations, Corner Boys and Hot Ice.
