  1. I had the Aristocrats on Rondo years ago as I picked up a few things on the label from the same dealer, mainly for Roosevelt & 7C's at the time. If I remember I only had one copy of that, but several of the R &7C's. There was another 45 as well possibly the Chattanooga Coachmen....but my memory disappears in the mists of time. There were many groups called the Aristocrats who recorded for many different labels in the 60's / 70's. The BMI site gives you Bobby Eli (the writer) and 'Let's get together now' but no artists recorded against it. However, a comment on YT says that the second vocalist is called Billy Hunt. Did a quick whizz round and the closest thing I could find was Billy Hunt & Family Attraction which had a track called 'look to the righteous' on a recently released 70's disco comp. Not much use, but maybe a little further on. Andy
  2. couldn't see that....maybe my old eyes !!
  3. I do love that Canadian Tamla label. Can you send me one Mal so I can lick it Andy
  4. Found some copies while digging in the US 20 years ago. Sounded dodgy to me but we thought there might be a market somewhere and sold them immediate on return to Blighty. Suppose it would appeal to those more in line with Popcorn. Never a soul record for me.
  5. Just my opinion. The person selling does not have to tell you what the c/u is, its up to you whether you want to pay that price. But think about the old legal adage "buyer beware". If you do buy it then its up to you whether you share the information or not, its your property to decide. I would be surprised if anyone wanted an NDA signed for a record. I'm also wary about this 'only known copy' because its a big wide world for collectors and we only know a few of them personally, but there are thousands of vinyl buffs from the US to Japan and who knows what they have ? The last time we had this discussion about this seller, he had a $10 record c/u at £400, but its identity was spotted immediately. I don't know what this is, as I usually avoid the gospel stuff and haven't played it. It could be a mega rarity... who knows ? At the end its your decision.
  6. Hi All Here are some cost effective tunes from the latest batch coming from the basement containing old stock from a long closed record shop. Payment is Paypal F&F please, or add 4% if that is preferred. Postage is £2.00 UK First, £3.5 Recorded and £5.00 worldwide. YT clips are for reference, all sales 100% guaranteed PM questions or to order. Cheers Andy ++++++++++++++++++ 1. We know her from her Motown days and some great early recordings but she went on to record for the likes of ATCO, Arista. 20th Cent and here we have a lovely lilting crossover tune for Reprise in original cover. Mary Wells - If you cant give her love - Reprise £15 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CeRagy2c-g0 2. The title is a classic and very expensive modern stepper, but the WDJ is a mispress playing the issue copy side "Trademark". The good news is that you still get a lovely tune and don't have to re-mortgage your house buy it. Crystal Clear - Trademark - Polydor WDJ £45 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QKAdzhF0nZ0 3. A unique voice with a couple of high priced Northern outings against her name, but she's here with her take on the Eddie Floyd tune. Even the wife likes this one !! Esther Phillips - I never found me a man - Kudu £15 4. The artist needs no introduction from me - a legend. Known on this label for his jaunty "Old People" tune, this is more of a gravelly voiced low down stepper which grows on you. Archie Bell & Drells - Strategy - PIR £10 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tNOxU_ThMAQ 5. After the break up of The Brighter Side of Darkness, two band members went on to create The Imaginations and record 3 outings for 20Th Century. This is a lovely uptempo xover tune with smooth vocals and a catchy rhythm. Ex+ condition on this one. The Imaginations - Searching - 20th Cent £15 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CJyTdUklW2s 6. Here are the imaginations again with another catchy xover tune. Ex copy The Imaginations - Sweet Mona - 20th Cent £10 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IxRma2ytTNE 7. Now here's a bargain for you. Tim Brown listed this at £100 and said it was a rare tune and a cracking laid back version of Pat Lundy on Vigor. Rhinestones - Party Music - 20th Cent £40 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-T-TgULgAVs 8. Here an old spin for Soul Sam and a lovely soulful stepper that seems to capture the mood of today and also gained lock down spins Hot Bush - Tell me you will - APA £10 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lyi_EZ7vMOY 9. The queen of soul does crossover. Here's Aretha with a lovely uptempo number and a real grower. Aretha Franklin - April Fools - Atlantic £8 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9OAMQWAUCaM 10. The great Bill 'Bunky' Sheppard strikes with his own group on this overlooked crossover gem which deserves to be played. A cracking low rider on the flip for good measure. The Sheppards - Your Love ( has a hole in it) - Bunky £20 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X-9Gpc4PAkc
  7. It was new to me Chalky.....and if its new to me then there are others that are probably not aware either. I should say that I don't particularly like either record. But thats no slight on Kurt/ Kurtis who has a fine set of lungs.
  8. Mentioning Sure Shot, I came across a piece of superfluous information. Kurtis Scott on Sure Shot and Kurt Harris on Diamond are one and the same person.
  9. There was a thread about this release (or maybe another one that turned up on Blue Rock - I'm getting old) and JM auctioned one I think. Cant remember the full story but its on here. Something about the pressing process and 6 copies pressed for test but never released. I can never find anything on the search engine, but you might be able to dig it out.
  10. I dont think the Red Goliath boot would count as a stocker, but I seem to recall in my dim and distant past that there is a Goliath stocker.
  11. Some nice group soul lowrider tunes for your interest. Most if not all are old store stock copies. Some of these also have great Northern and Crossover flips so you're getting a nice "twofer" for your cash money. Payment as Payapl F&F or add 4%. Post 2.00 First, 3.50 Recorded, 5.00 worldwide. PM to order or questions. YT clips are for reference. Cheers Andy +++++++++++++++++++ 1. Here's a lovely Chicago twofer from the great Bunky Sheppard's own label by The Sheppards themselves. The Lowrider tune here is a lovely group harmony effort "I'm not wanted", and for good measure it's coupled with a super crossover tune which has largely been ignored in "Your Love has got a hole in it". This is a store stock copy in NM condition at £20 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tdva4JJIu5M https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X-9Gpc4PAkc 2. Brief Encounter are a well known entity on the rare soul scene and their Sound Plus and Capitol outings command three figures when they become available. However, one that gets overlooked is a nice lowrider groove and is within everyone's pocket price wise. Here we have "I'm so satisfied" which has it all for me, with a flip that I seem to recall has been recorded by others but cant remember. An old store stock copy with a very slight storage dish which doesn't affect play at all. NM copy £15 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YWWJG_JtrTE&list=RDYWWJG_JtrTE&start_radio=1 3. Nothing much can be said about the Diplomats which hasn't been said already, who recorded many a fine tune which collectors seek. This tune cut for NY's Dynamo label is up there for me as one of their very best and 'I got the Kind of Love' is quite rightly now getting recognition on the Lowrider, Group soul and Sunday Session scenes. Here is a store stock copy say NM at £25 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TPflGGQJedA 4. The COD's were one of Chicago's finest groups and had a slew of terrific records on the Kellmac label. Here's a great 'twofer' with the lowrider 'Pretty baby' combined with a pounding Northern tune ' I'm a good guy' which appears on dealer lists at £30. Here is a NM store stock copy for £15 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ubbDCqQ4k1E https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u94oXkbc8S8 5. Finally another mellow lowrider tune from the Final Seconds where the flip has seen some action on the crossover scene. For me it has to be 'Lost on a highway' all the way, but at ;east its another 'twofer'. Store stock copy with a very slight label bubble around the middle, but nothing to frighten the horses. NM copy £10 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tpqq-yvh3vE
  12. Tough record Mal. I had a few contacts in Texas looking for it for a couple of years now. Great DIY release I think Andy
  13. I guess like many on here some of my 45's are in the boxes as I sold to Bob over the years. A gent, never really disagreed on price and always a pleasure to deal with.
  14. Seasons greeting to all. 3 tunes today for your interest.... Usual drill grading NM, Ex, VG and +/- to refine Payment as Paypal F&F or add 4% if it suits better. All sales carry 100% satisfaction guarantee. Post 2.00 first, 3.50 Recorded and 5.00 worldwide PM with questions or to order Thanks Andy ++++++++++++++++ 1. Did the Lovelites ever make a bad record ? Cant think of one myself. Here we have one of their best for me. This is an old store stock copy, but please not the flips side "Oh my love" unfortunately plays slightly off centre, but the wonderful crossover "love so strong" is true as an arrow ! Low price reflects this. Patti & Lovelites - Love so strong - Lovelite NM £35 (** note comment on above) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jqJygFSfqH4 2. A tune that picked up a following on the lock down dayers with big names like Mick H spinning it. A lovely mid tempo stepper and an unplayed old store stock copy. Last one ! Delegation - Oh honey - Shadybrook NM £15 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uOcW7sNwb9Y 3. A tune that became a modern soul anthem in recent years and rightly so. Here is a copy which has a very light thin surface swirl which does not affect play quality at all, and would grade at Ex. In its 'birth sleeve' and with a juke box tag also. Low price for a holiday bargain. Alicia Myers - I want to than you - MCA £25 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GtNLjLpnA9cAll the best ! Andy
  15. Could be a shout. I assume like most labels with a large (ish) output there would have been studio musicians or an in house band.
  16. You misunderstand I think. I meant the band name was a reaction to the event called 'Disco Demolition Night'. The event was in Chicago and Curtom is out of Chicago, hence the Chicago connection. Of course the black community didn't participate as they saw it as a racist gesture although Steve Dahl went out of his way to say not and that it was a stunt that had been misinterpreted. I think he was a rock DJ and was having a pop at the Disco scene.
  17. Nice mix Karl What were the last two tracks ? ATB Andy
  18. I wonder if the band name was connected to 'Disco Demolition Night' at Comiskey Park in Chicago where a local 'shock jock' radio DJ destroyed thousands of disco records. However it was widely seen as a racist gesture by the black community. Chicago is the connection it seems. Maybe some short lived protest band which never took off ? It seems strange they have a Curtom promo photograph but no release. https://uk.sports.yahoo.com/news/lets-blow-up-this-black-music-the-ugliness-and-unrest-of-1979-s-disco-demolition-night-212310331.html?guccounter=1&guce_referrer=aHR0cHM6Ly93d3cuZ29vZ2xlLmNvbS8&guce_referrer_sig=AQAAAHmOOgyKfr0m4GAZmtVMIho3N2QeGzCtDiXxHQrsLLAzhk3OjRO3RCmAwYutvCyiLxF0XgsECOnlthFRGcUrM23cCMHQkbdUZLheKdGr0nIXjtwOZoJHfqj8qNNjK5qYOuq24QgDd4Nj-NaNPzp1Jyj2ao2X2-9plPRzUlYA0fS9
  19. Interestingly I have a rare record which is styrene and from a visual inspection looks G+ (UK) and Fair (US). The styrene is heavily marked scuffed and scratched, however when played it sounds great and the play grade would be Ex . So how to grade for a buyer (not that I'm selling !) ? Maybe the only option is a sound file and say to the buyer its your decision ?
  20. Firstly for me its about UK or US grading because they are different. Grading itself is a little subjective and I've rarely had a really bad grading from the UK or US (maybe a couple in 40 years), but you have to understand that a UK grade will probably be lower than a US grade, so a UK VG+ will be lower than a US VG+. Therefore if its a UK 45 buy at Ex minimum.
  21. It depends on the rarity of the record. If I can get a rare record that I do not own but want, then I would take a VG copy provided its priced correctly. At some point if I can get an Ex or NM then I'll move it on. But there is no point buying VG copies of 10 quid records. Also the age of the records now means that those coming to the market are often not in great condition. So the decision is do you get a copy or leave it in the hope that someone sells, or one pops up on evil bay or somewhere. There are of course mint freaks and they probably wouldn't entertain a VG copy, but I think most would at the right price.
  22. I think the Jaggerz break up was a little later, around '77. Sam Ippolito, former front man for The Teardrops on Max "Every Step I take", joined the Jaggerz in 76 and was vocalist until '77. I was told this when doing the research for the Teardrops article. Some info on Jimmy Ross https://sites.google.com/site/pittsburghmusichistory/pittsburgh-music-story/vocalists/jimmie-ross Andy

Here's an oddball rarity from Barbados of all places by Lionel Able and The Mischievous Guys, which surfaced a couple of years ago and is now in demand stateside among the Lowrider fraternity. 'Lonely Man' is a typical local label release with sparse backing, but has that sort of hypnotic quality. The copies I've seen previous have been in very poor condition like most Caribbean 45's. This one is a nice Ex copy at £25 SOLD https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=odub7CH23yQ 3. Nothing much can be said about the Diplomats who recorded many a fine tune which collectors seek.
