  1. you should be able to grab this of ebay for $15. it's not an expensive one.
  2. classic track, can't believe people have missed this, that Moon River 45 is so common & I can't stand Moon River so the only obvious thing to do is flip it over.
  3. yeah, but compared to some of my friends in the US for example who have 10000 or more it is small. It's big for a soul/funk collection in New Zealand, but there are dudes here with rock collections much bigger than mine. At the end of the day it's nicely manageable.
  4. I limit the 45s to around 6500, I have a shelved wall which basically holds that many, when i start getting piles accumulating I know I have to get rid of some stuff from the wall. I've had more in the past, probably up to 8000 at least but I find keeping to a small limited collection like this is a good move. I don't want to have to get a storage unit or anything like that for records since I'm not a dealer or anything like that.
  5. Also check out the Memphis Rock & Soul Museum which is just off Beale. Get in touch with Sherman Willmott & he will take you on a driven tour of all Memphis' music sights, great to have a local tell you what to look for. You can email him through the Shangri La Projects website here https://www.shangrilaprojects.com/ Shangri La & Goner are the two best record stores to go to in Memphis. Try to get a hotel/motel in the city NOT out towards the airport, Memphis can get rough pretty quick. Don't wait outside the Civil Rights Museum for too long either. In NO, you want to go to Louisiana Music Factory & Jim Russell's for records, check out the Back Street Mardi Gras Cultural Museum. The National WWII Museum is cool. Catch live music at places like DBA (try to catch Walter Wolfman Washington for example), Bourbon St etc is a real tourist trap with cornball bands. If you're lucky you might catch Grandpa Elliott (60s/70s soul singer Elliott Small) busking around there though. You need to try the charbroiled oysters at Dragos, the best oysters you will eat anywhere ever, I don't even like oysters & ordered seconds, seriously. Hed out to Metairie or LaPlace or somewhere & take a Cajun Swamp Tour like this https://www.cajunprideswamptours.com/ Staying in the French Quarter is where you want to be.
  6. I've been playing this a bit from the LP, wish they would do it on a 45, great sound just begging for northern spins.

  8. i think you should possibly have taken the money......... if manship couldn't get your reserve for it, i'm not sure the SS sales section will be able to do better? hope i'm wrong for your sake though.
  9. hold up, you managed to find Nolan Chance on Bunky in OZ?? How did we not hear about this??!!??

The Jesse James has some momentum at the moment outside of Northern through the Mayer Hawthorne version.
  11. i wasn't gonna say anything.....
  12. yeah, he had them repressed with the original label owner's consent.
  13. There are also some instances where the sound quality on the reissue is better than an original, so i'll have both, keep an original filed at home but play the reissue.
  14. i do from time to time, just out of laziness more than anything
  15. place savers until one finds an original.....
  16. The "Can I Change My Mind" LP on Dakar is pretty great, i really like his versions of other famous soul tracks on it. His take of "Knock On Wood" is especially stunning. I also ride for his 4 Brothers sides.
  17. don't have the bootleg specifics handy to check for you right now though.
  18. in my experience with other Spar/Hit 45s, the Nashville Matrix stamp can appear very wonky on them, if it is vinyl or styrene with the molded label (not just glued on) then it's probably an original. tough to say without actually holding the 45 in my hands though.
  19. special NZ Northern Soul Weekender episode this week with guests Chris Anderton & Denny Johnson part 1 https://www.ustream.tv/recorded/20542100 part 2 https://www.ustream.tv/recorded/20543460 part 3 https://www.ustream.tv/recorded/20543737
  20. Just put them up as a lot on ebay so someone can start a 5 page thread on SS about how crap they are
  21. don't even waste your time conversing with the seller, get the excessive postage back through paypal, once you have it leave the guy a negative & move on.
  22. i have given up, never ever get a response either. Does anyone?

yeah, i was being really simplistic for simplicity's sake & trying to somehow tie it to the "more familiar" northern scene. Definitely nowhere near as similar as I made it come across. in my defence it is hard to describe in one or two sentences though

like northern soul but with more garage rock/frat rock influence, think Girl Watcher by the Okaysions or Double Shot by the Swingin' Medallions. there is a bit of crossover. scene based around the southeast, upper florida/carolinas.
  25. this is true, i actually kind of hate LPs
