  1. For me, 20 years, hundreds of thousands of 45s, never once flipped past Ben E King "Stand By Me" on original Atco in the wild, not hard to get off ebay, just weird it's never crossed my path. Add on.........
  2. "That's When It Hurts" has always done it for me as a sublime soul ballad. One thing that has blown me away is that in 20 years of collecting I have never ever seen the original Atco 45 of Stand By Me in real life to buy, it's on ebay all the time but it's kind of like a running task for me to avoid this 45 now, i have looked at hundreds of thousands of 45s & never flipped past that one, it's like my real life nemesis.
  3. i like the rawer fast or deep stuff bluesy is a plus, as soon as it starts getting too modern, sweet or discoed out then it's not for me, i switch off sometime in the early to mid 70s.
  4. When I ran into unplayed Memphis stock a few years back it was pretty beautiful to see runs of Memphis 45s all just chilling untouched in the company sleeve, I hadn't even thought there was a company sleeve before that.
  5. if true this is sad news.
  6. If it's any help a copy went through ebay in November for $77US. Can't find a new copy to buy at any of the usual suspects, Juno, Discogs etc. Probably still new copies sitting in stores here & there though.
  7. Re: Freddie Scott & Barbara McNair: In my experience there's no real difference in price between issue & promo on these, just keep whichever one you like best. expect to get $40US for each of them, the high price abnormalities over the last couple of years for the Freddie Scott aren't indicative of the actual value of that 45.
  8. awesome reply, thanks for sharing.

  11. This week starts with some R&B/Blues before heading into Soul. Part 1 https://www.ustream.tv/recorded/19769411 Part 2 https://www.ustream.tv/recorded/19771645
  12. I'd keep the one on the left because the one on the right is ugly & looks like a 70s press with the font they used for the label name.
  13. Dave, I really struggle to follow what you are on about 75% of the time I think I get it, but there is always a lot of re-reading to be done..... Am I the only one who struggles with this? Don't get me wrong, I enjoy your posts but they can be mighty tough to decipher.
  14. sounds pretty damn great to my ears.
  15. oh my god, there are so many, will report back with some killers.
  16. This Is My Prayer does indeed shred.
  17. You might be able to clarify also if the MVTH is just Part 1/Part 2 (ala the Soul World release) but the MTH (both orange & yellow presses) have the different flip (This Is My Prayer).
  18. Is the Triplett Twins Rooter Tooter the same recording as the Jay Pee 45?
  19. thanks for the Little Eddie & Triplett Twins. thanks for the Lady Margo too but I need the MVTH issue, I already have the MTH.
  20. Incredibly, Kim Tolliver & Lou Ragland spent time (a few months) here in Auckland back in the late 70s playing club dates. One of the local papers ran a pic & short story too. I like her Rojac 45 "You're Trying To Cop My Stuff", a cool, cheap 45. Agree the Chess LP is the strongest one. Notice she has a Rojac compilation CD out too.
  21. New Orleans, Allen Orange & Earl King related. Haven't heard this one (which may not even actually exist) but their other one is a early 60s New Orleans/R&B mid-tempo "new dance craze instructional" 45 with just solo male vocal & assorted "party" backgrounds. I like it.
  22. posted on here is fine thanks.
  23. yep, the one on Chess.
  24. maybe a bit funky but I'm loving this 45 at the moment
