  1. also, he said that he thinks he had chosen some bad titles because they didn't sell as well as he'd hoped at the time, i was cheeky & asked him why he'd needed to bootleg at least the JB 45s in the first place because they weren't exactly uncommon even these days (this was maybe 5 years ago), he laughed. It was a bit weird.
  2. I met & spoke to a dealer in the south of the US who bootlegged King 45s back in the late 70s/early 80s. He told me that he had them stamped First Edition especially for his boots, which were of a few of the rarer early R&B titles, he did them primarily for doo wop/50s collectors. The boxes he had left were on a mix of white, yellow & orange labels, the First Edition on the white labels was in red print, the others were all black, they were very well done boots. I didn't buy any to photograph sorry.
  3. awesome, saves me the trouble, roughly looks about right at first glance.
  4. I have a pretty good idea, I could dig out & photograph examples to be really clear, unless someone jumps in & saves me the effort is there a specific design which is troubling you? there are a few which reappear on different label designs which can get confusing.
  5. ONLY 63 COPIES LEFT NOW - DON'T MISS OUT Listen to clips of both sides here: https://www.divshare....ad/12483970-d6c Since last year's Elder William Smith 45 went down well. 6. I don't have much on this label, but I love Jean Wells, her LP is an underrated gem.
  7. my modest Marvelettes collection, as I mentioned before, Gladys has scrawled on the cover of my On Stage LP.
  8. I am posting the details up on a few other record forums so hopefully they will get in touch with you to contribute.
  9. the Stardust boot of Frank Wilson/Chris Clark also went for around $50 this week

on comparing the two threads, opinion is certainly divided on the Sacred Four 45

I was put off by the grading, I listened to the clip & agree it didn't sound too bad, but wasn't sure what he was on about as far as the pressing flaw also. Too many possible variables for me to want to jump in.
  12. the inside of the sleeve is white card, not brown card & the artwork is printed directly onto the cardboard sleeve, not onto paper slicks which are then glued on. the cover on the reissue is also glossy where the original is more of a matte finish. I would suggest buying a unsealed copy so you can ask the seller what colour the inside card of the cover is before pulling the trigger. also, these are newer "scorpio" reissues & have an extra number scratched in the runout groove which will go something like s-785364. great LP
  13. RIP She signed my copy of Marvelettes On Stage.
  14. Huge Jackie Wilson fan here, one of those artsists that you'll always find some new side you've never encountered & it will blow you away. The reason some of his tracks get a bit ignored isn't because they are lacking in quality, it's just that he has so many scorchers. I have a bunch of New Zealand & US Jackie Wilson 7"s, even a couple of 33rpm 7" stereo jukebox "mini album" EPs.
  15. ditto
  16. I have a Clarence Reid 45 (forget the title) that I pitch up sometimes, makes it sound like a uptempo funky sister soul track. It's actually really alarmingly convincing. Also the latest Charles Bradley 45, if you pitch that up a tad it sounds more like a funky Syl Johnson dancer.
  17. In the runout groove look for a little U in a circle, that is on all modern 45s pressed at United. Further, as stated in the first post if the etchings U-63709 or U-63895 then they are not original. If your copy doesn't have these then you should be good..........
  18. It probably did, the variable here is that I'm not the first owner
  19. As a collector Kent LPs were a great intro to many awesome records. Made me get up to see how many we have (about 30). My copy of 001 is on black, my copy of 050 is on purple but sans poster.
  20. seems to be a variation on both promo & stock copies for Shout 252-255 (Freddie Terrell, Moses Dillard, Deon Jackson & Liz Spraggins) Probably why I never noticed it before since I don't own those other three Shout 45s.
  21. I figure this is probably not popular enough to get a boot. But I think it's interesting there appears to be two label variations on the WLP. this one from popsike which has the Broadway address on the bottom rim of the label & different type layout and this one I bought yesterday with no address both seem legit since both designs are represented on other Shout 45s from the same era, although I'm not sure that they all appear as variables on singular titles? How many later period Shout 45s have 2 different variations on WLP?
  22. The typeset/font on the styrene Alfreda Brockington looks extremely similar to what's on those late 70s/early 80s styrene Galaxy reissues.
  23. has the WLP of this been booted? if so, can someone please give some runout groove details for original vs boot. Just found one this morning for a couple of dollars very unexpected at the local store & want to be sure before getting too excited. What a great track, I've never heard it before today thanks
  24. i usually change about yearly, although recently some of my Shures have been left a bit longer. Also, I always take my own headshells to gigs & set up the turntables properly each time. If you play out on different decks with worn needles or poorly weighted tone arms your records will undoubtedly suffer
  25. you can grab the US press on Atlantic, stereo or mono for less than that usually (unless its a promo), just have to religiously check the buy it now listings & snag the best one that comes up, I've grabbed NM copies of both stereo & mono over the last couple of years for around $30-$40 US. Great LP. I love 60s soul LPs, try to buy them whenever I can.
