  1. very sad news, a monster talent, I like the footage of him on The Beat DVD series. RIP
  2. Gene McDaniels - Tower of Strength................ seriously, an overused rhyme, not quite "fire/desire" but getting close

I dig this label, need more of it in my life.
  4. lol, weird, never seen that one before, do you know if the label was different? like if they pressed up more records with a Truth label but used leftover covers?
  5. i'm 95% certain these don't exist
  6. depends who you talk to. i'm still undecided but leaning towards bootleg.
  7. As mentioned there are green & blue demos, the date of issue is pretty minimal between the two. what different shades?
  8. this one is also not bad as far as faster versions go.
  9. I like the look of the Tarpon label better, makes a change from the hundreds of Chess 45s I have. Anyways, 1st press is on turquoise, it hit & required a 2nd press on blue which was then superceded by the 3rd press on Chess & as stated above all used the same plates/plant & were made within a few months of each other in 1967. Cool little record. Not sure if Chess pressed it up in other plants or on styrene though, maybe by the time they got to it they only needed to do the pressing at one plant.
  10. how on earth are you recording your records & posting them so fast?

In my experience when styrene 45s are mint/brand new they sound louder/better with less background noise than the vinyl eqivalent, alas this doesn't last & they are a real minefield to buy used because of cueburn/greying/distortion.
  12. A couple of them on my computer, way more buried on the shelf. Great label but suffers from the abundance of hammered styrene copies must buy unplayed mint stock copies to avoid styrene burn if possible. The Isley Bros is on vinyl but is a boot (why you would want to boot that common ass record is a mystery to me though).
  13. I don't think anyone knows for sure, the answers died with the label owner. Just checked, there are actually 4 variations. 3 are on white labels with red writing & 1 is on green with black writing. It was something of a regional hit back in the day so it was pressed up in 4 smaller runs. The unplayed stock of white with red type which have surfaced semi-recently were deadstock found in the remaining effects of the label owner's estate. Maybe they are the last variation, but a possibility is that they were just shelved when the green label was made to supercede it & bring the Dorando label in line with the later releases on the label which had green labels, so the green could be last too. No one knows for sure though. Great 45.
  14. might be a long shot, but can anyone here tell me what the flip of this 45 sounds like?
  15. i think no, kind of like there would be no rockabilly revivalist scene without Elvis Presley. 90% of those rockabilly cats were trying to copy Presley & get some of his success, similar to 60s soul in my opinion, so many of those labels went at it to try & grab some of what Berry Gordy was achieving. Interesting thread to ponder though.
  16. i thought this would have sold out ages ago, limited to 200 copies great 45.
  17. That Little Ann LP is awesome, still digging it a year later or however long it is since it dropped.
  18. It's his easiest one, there are 3 label variations, all are legit, mint should run you $75-$100.
  19. cool label, I have 2 Mad Dog & the Pups, maybe a Soul Toronados too..... can't remember.
  20. I've been spinning Luckett Bros "God Is Getting Ready For The Judgement Day" on HSE for a little while now, seems to go over ok. I think it's a great track. Can't find a clip online though.
  21. this appears to be correct, i don't think you are confused.
  22. So the White Whale 45 is the slow version. It looks like the Jay Boy 45 is the original issue of the fast version on 45 from 1969 as it is an LP track only in the US until the Trip 45 from the 1970s. (As far as I can tell Trip was not operating in the 1960s). So far......................................
  23. Are you sure? Because in the youtube clip posted above the faster version is coming off The Duck LP?????
  24. OK, so this fast version appears on the Crestview/B&C/Jay Boy LPs, Jay Boy 45 (with Send For Me I'll Be There as the flip) & Trip 45 (but with a Gene Allison track as the flip). Is it possible that Jay Boy chose their own songs from the LP to release as a UK only 45, choosing Harlem Shuffle over Dancing Everywhere or just randomly selecting a couple of tracks for a UK 45? Send For Me I'll Be There/Dancing Everywhere was the US Crestview 45. Crestview was a Randy Woods label, could be the Trip connection.
