    Collectors Frenzy
  2. The BB King is a real cheapie. I don't think it should set you back any more than $10 max.
  3. Edwin Starr had a hand in coaching the Shades of Blue & also wrote a couple of songs for them, so it's totally believable that the singer from Shades of Blue is heavily under his influence.
  4. Any & all Shrine stuff is kind of going bonkers on ebay recently, probably thanks in part to being blown up & lionized in those Shrine CD's from a year or 2 ago. Not really surprising & I think what will happen is they'll spike in the next while before settling down again. Those Shrine master reels that came up probably also got people fetishing over the label again too.

UK sellers usually charge me 3 pound.
  6. ha ha, I looked there last night but only got as far as Motown on the list. The list goes straight from Mohawk to Motown, so I thought there wasn't one. Didn't realize that Motown was alphabetized incorrectly
  7. I had the same thing with a station lot of 45s, picked the last 1200 or so up from the sidewalk while the truck was coming back from the dump to get it's last load. Drove to the dump only to see a bulldozer driving other hot trash & itself over the other thousands. Not a lot of keepers from the 1200 I got though, so that made me feel a bit better. Just lots of mainstream rock/pop from the 50s-70s. I ended up throwing maybe 1000 away myself
  8. Yeah, i'm not sure how to add refosoul posts anymore, but your soundlip sounds like it has issues too. The Jerk is a cool cheap 45. I agree that Money is a quality label. I would be interested in seeing a discography come to think of it. How many titles got released elsewhere? The Jerk got a New Zealand press on Pye.

heaps of guys did military time, i'm not sure if you'd ever be able to work out who saw action though.
  10. shoot, sorry man, didn't mean for it to come across dickish/offend, was just typing quick between work this morning. You can probably search for the whole story in a previous thread. Nothing wrong with asking.
  11. It's showing here in Auckland next week, looks interesting.
  12. covered at length in the past, old news, one copy was indeed left by a heat source & is now warped but still playable.
  13. First up, I've had a lot of success with putting records between 2 bits of heavy glass in an oven using heat resistant foam placemats to off set the raised label (cut them into the shape of the vinyl but leave a hole in the middle the size of the label. I got 2 panes of 1/2 inch thick & 13x13 inch glass from a glazier specifically for it. The trick is to get the temp & time just right. Not enough heat & there'll be no change, too much & the vinyl will become heat damaged & developed tiny ripples/bubbles all over the surface giving terrible surface noise. Also, you need to keep the record in a paper sleeve while baking it & leave it between the glass untouched after baking. Put it in a cool place with a bunch of heavy books on top of it for a few days to make the straightening stick. As mentioned above there are 2 types of warp, a heat warp has actually warped the grooves & although you will be able to flatten the record you can't fix the playback. A pressure warp is totally fixable by this method as the grooves are usually unaffeced by the warp. Try it with a cheap record first to get the time/temp right, most ovens are different so it will change depending who you talk to. Do it bit by bit because once it's overcooked it is screwed, so it's better to be cautious. The best results I've had have been on fan bake, don't preheat the oven, try something like 50-75 degrees for 10 minutes. Leave to cool for a few days, investigate, then try again if neccessary with a longer cooking time or slightly higher temp. Good luck. Of course the best wthing is to just not buy warped records in the first place or store your records in a way they can get warped.
  14. holy smokes that was quick

I have just started up on there & am looking at adding to their woefully incomplete soul/funk lists. If more soul/funk collectors got behind it & added to the database it could be a really useful place for selling & buying. At the moment there is a lot of mainstream & dance/electronica/hip hop music getting moved through there. It won't get any better unless we all contribute.
  16. yes, this has shot up in demand/price the last 18 months to 2 years. The problem is that because they are styrene the distortion on VG+/VG copies can be terrible. But people are still paying 3 figures for mangled/borderline unplayable copies at the moment I have a whie label demo, but I think I'll wait until it all dies down to cop a issue copy.
  17. Sounds like a nice send off. I saw Al Green live on Thursday night & he made no mention at all of Willie Mitchell. Although maybe the fact that almost all his famous songs he sung were co-written by Willie is tribute enough.
  18. mailed them all today, hope you dig them.
  19. awesome, i'm looking forward to this.
  20. Seriously, there are still millions of thousands of those Ric Tic 45s out there, I wouldn't be worried about people taking a few hundred & doing what they want with them. The commons on that label will never be rare. Heck, there's bucketloads on ebay that never sell & just clutter up people's ebay stores & they're not even at $10 a copy for the most part. Some of you guys sound like you need to go look through a few thousand 45s & report back how many Ric Tic's you pass on because they're everywhere. Fantastic Four for DAYS........ I understand that throwing out records seems sacriligious to people & I used to think the same way, but there is definitely a poine where you've seen & accumulated so many soul 45s that you get a pretty good idea of what you're gonna be able to give away & what is unmoveable & if you don't jettison it any way possible, it will be with you to your grave. Wading through 300/400 common Ric Tic double ups sounds like hell in a handbasket, even if the guy pays you Maybe binning them was a bit harsh without offering them as a lot on here first apparently but I understand where the guy's coming from.
  21. Yes, I love the 45, but didn't know what to do with 50+ copies All my friends got a copy whether they wanted it or not, I sold a few for prices that weren't even worth my while. The drums are so tough on that record.
  22. NZBC sticker just means it came from the New Zealand Radio library.
  23. I've thrown stuff away for sure, if it's super wrecked or things no one I know is into so I can't even give them away. I don't take them to thrift stores either because it sucks looking through your old castaways next time you go there. Biggest mistake was a few years back I got a pressing plant box of unplayed US stock copies of Beggin by the 4 Seasons when I bought a few thousand 45s from a closed store in Wisconsin. Got rid of a bunch either through sales or giving them away. After a while I had them on ebay & other sites at something like $5 buy nows & they just weren't moving. No one wanted the damn thing, so I took about 35 mint copies & threw them in the rubbish when I moved. Now it seems the price has picked up a bit again & some days I kick myself Also had a box of Foolish Fool by Dee Dee Warwick, same story although even less people wanted that & it's still worthless so I don't kick myself so much Take the crap out of circulation is my motto

Charlie Francis - Heart Follow That Girl, not on 45. But apparently on a slew of Pickwick related budget LPs from the early 60s. He has other tracks on the Screamin Jay Hawkins/Lillian Briggs/Kay Starr/Charlie Francis LP on Coronet, all are just piano & voice demos.
