no, absolutely nothing like it. just piano & voice & way slower, totally different song.

ok, i have this on two LPs. Maxine Brown on Spin-O-Rama, JoAnn Campbell on Coronet & have a Margie Anderson LP on Grand Prix as well. No credits though unfortunately. nice song. could be anyone the way those 60s budget labels licensed/released tracks I have definitely wondered about this before too.

i think i have/had this LP & know what you're on about. I think it might be a repackaging of another budget LP where the male singer is actually credited. I'll see if I still have it.
  5. 3 burnt, 6 to go but seem to have run out of blanks, will have to abort & buy more tomorrow.
  6. Has anybody received their records from his set of auctions just before xmas?
  7. I wouldn't mind joining in on this CD swap if it's a small one. Is it too late? Who do I PM? Mal C or ajb?
  8. anything from Numero's "Eccentric Soul" series is great. Eccentric Soul Catalog
  9. Marva left hospital & flew back to Kansas City a couple days ago, understandably she had to cancel her Australian tour after just 2 shows. The stroke paralyzed the left side of her body, from the face down to her toes, and she was rushed to Hospital. Fortunately, she made an amazing recovery and was released from the hospital just two days later. She is expected to make a pretty full recovery & should perform again after some rest & recovery time. Sad news, but a positive outcome at least. Hopefully she continues her recovery as planned.
  10. This thread makes me want to dig out an LP I bought of hers a while back "Music City Soul". I don't remember it having much impression when I got it, but maybe I need to re-evaluate ?
  11. where the hell was that when i searched for it last night...... i obviously need to learn the search function better
  12. Yes, this is the reason I am going, probably the closest you will get at this late point in their history. I think Ronnie McNeir is in the Four Tops these days too & maybe Claudette will come with the Miracles.... long shot I am now regretting not stopping at Hi in Memphis back in 08 when we drove past for a look & saw Willie Mitchell standing in the doorway. Hopefully it doesn't affect Al Green's upcoming tour at all.......
  13. Aren't there 3 versions? horns, strings & then one other that is either horns or strings but with harder drums? The third is easy to spot because it has lines on the label & is a different catalog number than the other 2, it is a totally different recording. With the first two the only difference is the horns vs strings & the flip on the string version is sped up. Mutt was convinced they would get a hit with this so they recorded, mixed & released it 3 times.

yeah, that Joe Bussard doco is awesome.
  15. Yes, just booked tickets for the New Zealand stop of the tour. Don't care much for Osborne & Barnes, Ian Moss was a snoozefest live last year also. But the convenience of having what's left of the 4 Motown acts on in one day is too good to miss. Can't wait. Although only having 5 original members combined between the 5 acts makes me a bit sad.

Yes, I saw it at the cinema a while back. Great footage. Apparently there is lots of stuff still unreleased, so I'll definitely be looking for a follow up of some description.
  17. Allison Durbin does a blue-eyed soul version on her "Soft & Soulful" LP & 45 from 1969. Similar to Dusty's version. There's a 30 sec clip on the page for her "Best Of" CD if you are curious: here
  18. I really liked the "Cold Game" 45 & will definitely be keeping an eye out for this one.
  19. This is Joe in Las Vegas, he is a pretty well known dealer over there. He bought out most all the remaining Prix & Tammy stock a few years back & has/had boxes of originals of each title. His ebay business skills seem to leave a little to be desired though.

don't know it, but I like & would definitely buy if I knew what it was.
  21. Another(?) Jimmy Mack is also listed as arranger on the flip "Charley" of the Watts 103rd St Rhythm Band's "Spreadin' Honey" 45 on Keyman.
  22. i bought the Hawthorne LP, I don't hate it, but I don't think it's all it's hyped up to be in the press either. Most people who champion it seem to be casual soul listeners at best.
  23. Regardless of what you think of the mayer hawthorne version, it has upped the desirability of this 45 among casual collectors recently, so it's pretty hot at the moment. There are a few different colored label variations of the Soulhawk press too. I don't know what color came first or if it really matters. But the Soulhawk presses seem to turn up more often than the Westbound in my experience.
  24. Auckland New Zealand
  25. yep, if you clean it off before playing it is fine, still a mint record in my opinion. A sign of a true unplayed original.
