Aukland N.z
Max, I usually have a few things on the go in Auckland, nothing like a traditional "soul night" though, but I'll PM you with some info.

New Zealand press is also rare.

Atlantic 45-2590 - Sam & Dave - Soul Sister, Brown Sugar
yes, just different plants for distribution in different areas, standard practice for the time with the "big" labels/records. No real difference in authenticity IMO.

Green Stax - How Many?
Thanks for clarifying that Tony.

Green Stax - How Many?
My understanding has always been that the Green labels were mostly 2nd presses done up by Atlantic of originally blue labelled stuff, so you get things like Green Onions, Tribute To A King, Cold Feet etc on green as legit 2nd pressings of these titles which all originally were on the light blue label. I don't know which ones came out "only" on green as new releases though.

Ever Tried Cleaning Records With Vinegar?
Borrowing from a couple of the other suggestions: hi , always use washing up liquid ( the cheap stuff ) on one of those small yellow sponges with the green bit on one side, just put a bit in a luke warm sink of water so it's a bit diluted (essentially like doing the dishes but not so hot) use the yellow sponge side (not the green scourer of course) and basically just rub it around then rinse with cold water under afrom the tap and dry with towels. If there is dirt in the grooves then i use a soft toothbrush with the soapy water. Works fine if the record is indeed saveable.

Why Do Djs Tell Pork Pies
In that case, I wouldn't have lied to you. Maybe the guy was having a bad night or just forgot about it??

Why Do Djs Tell Pork Pies
i kinda think it's one of those things that depends on the situation to a certain extent.

Why Do Djs Tell Pork Pies
drunk people requesting stuff is my worst thing ever, I actually had someone ask me play Otis Redding.............. while Otis Redding was playing.........
-
Why Do Djs Tell Pork Pies
we say we have it & will play it basically to get you to go away instead of having an argument over why we don't have that song while we are working

Are Records Sold On This Site More Expensive Than Average?
I'd agree with this.

Are Records Sold On This Site More Expensive Than Average?
Wait a minute, someone is saying that psice guides are inaccurate??? Wow, my mind has just been officially blown. I shall now have to rethink how I price records from now on What I want to know is if the guys writing these guides would actually pay book price on anything, or are they just taking the piss out of it all . A true story is that I have a friend in a record store in the US who had to try really hard to resist the temptation of getting the Manship Price Guide from behind the counter one time when John was buying a stack of 45s from his store, imagine that, could have been interesting Not that I would ever complain about buying records online from manship, I have had nothing but oustanding dealings with them. The big names in the record collecting scene usually get their name by doing things right & sometimes peace of mind costs a little more, I mean would you take a chance on a possibly dodgy VG+ for $10 less from an unknown seller or get a VG+ you know you can trust from someone like Moerer in a bulletproof mailer with great safe returns policy?? Seriously though, these days one can't even depend on an EX grade really, just to cover myself I will ask the seller directly most of the time to tell me if their EX grade has any distortion, scratchiness or hiss on listening. With VG+ I have to ask every single time, which is totally not what Record Collector/Goldmine state. Unfortunately many sellers just can't grade to save themselves & this is how things are these days with the Ebay record explosion. Soul Source isn't really different, if people's prices are too high, don't buy, if you are iffy about their grading, ask them for more details. Some of the responsibility has to rest with being a smart buyer, not just the "dodgy" sellers.

Donated Records Pt 2
Again, much of this is pretty standard stuff. However, if the Eddie Holland & Barbara Lewis test pressings & Gene Stridel & Virgil Henry acetates are authentic they may be of interest to collectors.

Donated Records Pt 1
Anyways, type a few into www.collectorsfrenzy.com or ebay & see what show up to compare them to.

Donated Records Pt 1
If the June Alexander is an original you may be onto something, but yeah, the company it looks to be keeping (the labels of the other records etc) doesn't fill me with confidence. Never know though.

Black Lightning Mca 40219 Trouble/ Without You
Talk about deja vu, didn't you just ask this last month??

Usa Record Fairs
The only 3 that come into it IMO are ARC, Allentown & WFMU. WFMU seems to be on the up & up while ARC & Allentown seem to be dropping slightly in quality. In saying that though, I was at the fall ARC last year & was really happy with the selection. Austin is a great city & the whole vibe there is really great, there are also some great record stores to hit up in that city while there. Allentown doesn't have much else touristy/interesting around except for the fair & WFMU is in "scary" NYC. If you are going as a foreigner to any of those 3 fairs you should be happy though.

Record Mountain Growing By The Day
Sounds like a good deal if they are in playable condition. Will we see Northern Soul turning into the next doo-wop, where nowadays only the mega rarities still sell for good prices? Perhaps soul fans have the cheapies already & we will see the market drop off?? I tend to think the soul scene (& related) is too strong & this current slump is directly related to the recession. When things get better with the economy the buyers will return evenly to all ends of the market. I know that I'm winning a lot more stuff for cheaper off ebay at the moment, so it's kind of a case of "making hay while the sun shines" at least for the moment until the other bidders/snipers get serious again. Definitely not a great time for selling "cheap to medium rare" records on ebay though.

RIP. I like her Cry Me A River 45

Motown/northern?
If you have a record that was recorded by the same musicians as motown, produced by motown producers but not technically on motown, isn't that not really proving anything?? A lot of those detroit things (Ric Tic etc) are they really far away enough from Motown to qualify??

Was James Brown The Godfather Of Soul?
No question it is James Brown, saying otherwise is just sillyness. Teddy Pendergrass? don't make me laugh. Jackie Wilson & Sam Cooke both had one foot in the crossover pop market too often, Sam didn't last long enough to realise the potential & Jackie was too reliant on other people's productions/songs. Great artists, but JB was the total package as far as self contained godfathering of soul goes.

Anyone Heard This?
Awesome, record, I'll definitely be grabbing a copy at some stage. Good to hear Willie West still sounding magnificent. I love Timmion they are doing great things.

Price Please
You'd probably look at around 100 pound for a mint one, lesser condition examples like VG+ should run you 50 - 70 USD. I sold VG++ last year on ebay for something like $70US.
