Well What a splendid offer. If you email me your address at edyc1@aol.com, I will post a tape of some of my 'slightly obscure' tunes in return for a tape of your 'slightly obscure' tunes including instrumentals. Sorted. (Always wondered what tape swoppers were!!)

Eighties Soul
A little tip. If you can use the internet to pick up radio, try a few USA stations offering R & B/ Soul etc. Chicago/NewYork stations have some great Oldies shows and its worth the try. Even in the 80s, most of the records played at soul venues, especially Northern, were still oldies, and the Jazz Funk scene played - well - Jazz Funk with not much soul as I remember (Another brick in the wall - seriously). Second Time Around
Looking through some of the 'fave' records listed on recent polls, some of them I like now but could not stand the first time I heard them. Top of the List 'Don Varner - Tear Stained Face' Loathed this at first but years later complete change of heart and I love it. Any other nominations?? Ed

Thanks for all your help, but none of the suggestions jump out. I guess I will have to go to a revival night over there and quiz the Old Jocks. I am guessing it was a Poke spin, and probably covered up or an acetate, as its never come out on the 100 or so CDs I have aquired. I am not sure my vocal interpretation of the tune will be any more use than the ding ding ding written down. Is that Leaking Boot chippy still open up the road? Ed

Super Rare 45 On Ebay
You would have thought the Church would not want to be associated with the once raunchy Miss Lauper, but as you know SEX SELLS. I would have thought a mint original Gospel Classics in a walmart cover was more fitting. Shame on you Pastor. Praise the Lord.

No Nope, none of them. Falbala - Jesus. More like a very basic Champion with a driving beat from the lead guitar. Played at the same time as stuff like broadway sissy, similar speed in terms of dancing. Ding ding ding intro like a harder version of the intro to 'Your love makes me Lonely'. Now I cant stop twanging my imaginary guitar string. Ed

You see the problem was that the first wintergarden nighters had the DJs just through the door and you could go up and see the disc. Then they moved it up to the stage at the back and made it impossible to see what was being played. I blame the DJs. Probably covered up anyway. Ding ding ding. Ed

Instrumental Title
This is a real long shot. I only ever heard this at cleethorpes. Ok goes like this Ding ding ding,,,,,,,,ding ding, ding, ding ding ding ding. and repeat. A fast stomping instrumental with a distinct guitar opening. Sorry that all I got. For years I thought it was soul step by the dogs until I heard that tune off a CD and its not the same record. Think think think. Ed

The Most Soulfull Northern Soul
With about 50 replies, some quality choices. In the days before it was called Northern Soul, I assume then that only mid to uptempo soul was played. Maybe the Northern Soul tag was a curse allowing too much variation to the core underground theme of danceable soul. In recent years I have noticed the RARESOUL being favoured to NORTHERN SOUL by many who insist it has to be a soul record in the first place. Ed

The Most Soulfull Northern Soul
Although the words Northern Soul do not guarantee a record is in fact soulfull, it must be said that the majority are. Whats your top 3 that prove this point. My top 3 Tomangoes - I really love you baby - Washpan. Gwen Owens - Just say your wanted and needed - Velgo. Dena Barnes - If you ever walk out of my life - Inferno. Ed

Spaceark
First heard this at Wakefield Unity Hall, along with Seventh Wonder, Lovelites, and an instrumental of Fight the Power. Great toon. Ed
