£1500 For A Levi Jacket?
As a collectable type of Levi Jacket (type 557) this jacket is worth little money. As stated by 'Peggy Babcock' the more collectable 557X type jacket have a big E tag & were produced from 1962 to 1966 they then became 557 from 1967 to 1969. In 1969 these jackets became small e, but were still made (in the main) from Cone 505 denim. NB: The 501/505 Jeans however went small e tag in 1971. All collectable Levis 557 jackets are badged 70505 0217 or sometimes 70506 0217 the patches difffer from large (almost square) in 1963 to later oblong ones 1967 onwards, also there are differences in the inner top pocket material and the 'flag stitching' inside the top pockets. Anything else (like this jacket) is not @ present considered Vintage or collectable, so the badges are worth more than the jacket. The majority of these badges however are available on e-bay, but I would not reccomend replicating this jacket for profit, using a good sixties jacket as a base as it will devalue the jacket to collectors. Regarding Wrangler denim jackets if it does not have outside double stitching around the top of the arm or has a zig zag type denim (broken twill) and no 'Blue Bell' inside badge, it is not regarded as vintage or colllectable. I am a part time collector & dealer of Vintage denim, so I hope this helps if you want to determine the value of your jacket. PS: All Levis Leather Jackets with 'Shorthorn' badges are very collectable (Big E) the later 'Batwing' varient (Small e) less so. Best Regards Ricardo.

New Member - Lorraine Chandler
Hello again Lorraine, Many thanks for clearing the matter up, & giving us all your views on those 'Bootleg recordings' credited to yourself. The bad information regarding you being Deniece Chandler, was given to me one Sunday Morning @ about 5.30 AM in an Allnighter, so I allways took it with a "pinch of salt." Lastly how anybody could think to emulate your unique voice is a mistery to me. As Dobie Gray once said THE ORIGINALS STILL THE GREATEST. Best Regards Ricardo.

New Member - Lorraine Chandler
Hello Lorraine, May I say a heartfelt welcome to Soulsource, from your Legions of fans, both in the U.K. & Abroad. Your recordings to me, like many others have been an inspiration, however did you record under any other names. I was told that Deniece Chandler on the Lock label was you. ?? Best Regards, Ricardo.

The One Show
I've just watched it on i-player & can confirm that one of the presenters stated "there are plenty of Northern Soul venues today" or similar words, so why rake up all that Retro Fantasy World Bullshit. Next time BBC why not visit a REAL N.S. (current) venue & get a viewpoint from the people who attend & who attended Wigan, instead of taking the "Wigan will never die as long as there's people around like me (Winstanley) to milk a few more £££ out of it from the Ill informed" line. Meanwhile in the Real N.S. world Esther Grant just sold for a hefty price on E-Bay, & the last Burnley was a corker, Viva La Difference. Ricardo.

Northern Soul 70's Fashion
OK..............here's my slant on it, it may not be totally on Topic, but here's a potted perstective to somebody (myself) who was "on the scene" through al these Eras. 1966 The first Quality denim jeans & jackets are worn: Levis, Wrangler, Dickies. Most 'Mod suits' had longish side vents & 3" pocket flaps with mulit button cuffs. Shoes were mainly brougues, shirts were button down Ben Sherman. 1968 Lee Rider jeans appear, suits have changed to 18" centre vents, and two tone fabric is available, hair is short & tidy. Levis debut the 'Shorthorn Leather Jacket' shoe wise Loafers make an appearence, along with "Smooths & "Royal style Brogoues." Shirts are still button down but with a more fitted body (Brooks Bros were the best if you could get them.) The Twisted Wheel moves to Whitworth Street, & the "Real Northern Mod scene" playing Sixties Soul is in full swing. Blazers with brading and "Soul Badges" make an appearence. Crombies are seen in greater numbers along with Burberry style macs, trouser bottoms are slightly wider, & the first "Skinheads appear." 1971 Hair is now longer, Bomber jackets are being worn in large numbers, jeans & cords become wider, Solatio shoes & Carmen Ghia chords appear. The Wigan Casino style of dress has arrived (1974), along with the "Golden ere of Northern soul. 1976 A big backlash against the previous style is seen, as the golden erea of Northern Soul ends, & the more 'Modern' style records are played. Short V neck sweaters are still in, along with Letterman jackets, & Levis 501 jeans (now small e.) Converse Hi tops are popular, along with the quality American footwear, which is being imported by J Simons in London, along with Quality Chino's, Pendleton shirts and Baracuta Harringtons, which again make a comeback. 1976 to The Present: As the demise of selvage edge jeans is completed by 1986, and the 1968 / 1976 style will become "Retro Cool" to some (Mostly knocking on the door of 60 yrs old like me) things appear to have gone full circle Soul fashion wise. Regards Ricardo.

Pete Townshend - The Mod In Me
Keith, 'Uncle Mort' alias Bob Foster is alive & well and presently living in Fitzwilliam (near Hemsworth.) In the mid to late sixties he was Stan Spencers right hand man, and assisted Stan in supplying the Twisted Wheel M/Cr with various types of 'Uppers.' Stan has unfortunatly now passed away, and is burried in Hemsworth Cemetery, his headstone has the epitaph "Shine on you crazy Diamond." Stan was the youngest member of the notorious Hemsworth gang, originally known as the Crosshills Teddyboys, when he joined @ the age of 13 years. He is best remembered for dispensing 'Hemsworth eyeshadow' to "Divvies" in the chip shop after closing time. Dinky Dawson was of course Mr Stringfellows "sidekick" at the Mojo Club in Sheffield. Regards Ricardo.
