  1. I don't get the dilema ? you're either into the music or not (aside froma family disaster or listening to Mick and Chalky dj'ing for 3 hours straight) nothing could make me even contemplate it ..dj'in,depression,economy,rows with folk forget all that records keep me sane or is it insane..
  2. Now then young lady, not sure if you're aware but this came out twice ,checked my collection both share the same number but are different mixes on both sides ,times and matrix numbers also different colour labels ! infact all the L.Lester releases on nutone came out twice for some reason ( apart from the "power structure" release ) i only got the one version of that ,unless anyone knows any differently ? c.u at Bidds me luv.
  3. STEVE,THE RAVINS,TOMMY AND THE DERBYS,SALT AND PEPPER OR WHATEVER THEY ALL HIT A NERVE, YOU OF ALL PEOPLE SURELY UNDERSTAND WHERE I'M COMING FROM ? THERE JUST ISN'T ENOUGH DECENT RECORDS FOR THE UPFRONT SIDE OF THINGS TO WORK WITH.. WHEN THE ODD FEW DO START TO WORK HEY PRESTO ALONG COME THE LEACHES PREMATURELY PRESSING BE IT ILLEGALLY OR SO CALLED LEGALLY (THAT WHOLE SCENARIO IS A CROCK AIN'T IT )THE VERY FABRIC AND FUTURE OF OUR NITER SCENE RIDES ON THE DJ'S ABILITY TO PROVIDE RECORDS THAT YOU HAVE TO TRAVEL TO HEAR ? YOU SAY THE DAMAGE ISN'T IRREPAIRABLE TO THE RARE SOUL SCENE , FOR EXAMPLE WHAT IF MARK DOBSON AND 3 OR 4 OF THE OTHER LEADING UPFRONT JOCKS SAY WHY SHOULD THEY BOTHER ANYMORE -WHICH MAY WELL END UP BEING THE CASE .
  4. Oh YEH YIPPY I F*CKIN AYE ,WELL DONE TO -ANDERSON ,WELDING OR WHOEVER THEY ARE ,SO ENLIGHTEN US WHY THE NEED TO PUT THIS OUT YET ? IT'S A F*CKIN DISGRACE - TALK ABOUT KICKING THE PROGRESSIVE SIDE OF THINGS WHILE IT'S DOWN ,SURELY THE SO CALLED GREATEST FINDER OF SOUL RECORDS HAS SOME WORTHY UNISSUED MATERIAL TO PUT OUT ? INSTEAD OF SOME OF THE CURRENT LIFEBLOOD SOUNDS ? THAT IN HIS WORDS ARE "NORTHERN SH*TE AND CRAP ! IT'S ALL F*CKED HE REPEATS AND FULL OF W**KERS THE NORTHERN SCENE " WELL IN THAT CASE UNLESS DOIN SOMETHING CONSTRUCTIVE FOR THE SCENE LEAVE IT ALONE !
  5. To be precise, some years ago i got half a dozen spares which sold swiftly at the time,i listed one recently that i must have misplaced for a grand and got calls from every corner of the globe ! i dare say there is plenty of folk out there still wanting to own this record... I spoke to Mark Dobson recently about the record he commented that it never really took off at the time ,so he left it alone,a similar scenario to a number of things he plays or has played -they just need a couple more dj's to give that xtra leg up for wider acceptance (like mentioned earlier , in this case shifty gave it it's initial airing).A classic northern winner it isn't but a very nice left field niter spin with some legs left in it.
  6. Ian mate ,don't ask me Chalky came to my house and i handed him a few 45's ,i wouldn't know where to start... i just charged him £50 per record to record them ! ah.. only joking it was more....
  7. The shop floor is always the best litmus test for price feedback etc although the bay is the yard stick knowledge hunters follow, they haven't a clue as to what deals are being done by many dealers and collectors -day in and day out....
  8. If i remember the idea of the podcast was to give people a idea of what Lifeline was about - hopefully attracting a few new folk who weren't quite familiar with the music we play there.Since then playlists of all the dj's change slightly ,the goal posts have moved a little and we have to on the whole be a customer friendly niter - ie at the time of this podcast we could play more 70's and the so called "funkier " influenced dancers ,but the dance floor reaction at the moment dictates a more traditional upfront 60's flavour ! I must admit i am a big believer that people should travel to venues to hear something different ... but of course this isn't always possible, anyways glad you enjoyed the music which is the main thing.

Infact just thinking Kev , on a recent visit to my house Soul Sam explained that he played this first,he said that he and Colin Curtis would would go through the latest package from Soussan/ Cattaneo and split the titles- this particular time Inspirations-No one else / Robby Lawson were in there,Sam picked R.L and Colin the Inspirations ! I assume this is the copy you mention Kev ?
  10. Dysonsoul replied to a post in a topic in Look At Your Box
Yes very interesting Kev,some of the old school names from the hey days in your reply, Burning Sensation is such an exciting record.. the upfront scene really could do with some discoveries of equal excitement, to inject a bit of get up and go on the somewhat stagnent cutting edge dance floors ! To be honest walking through the doors of Kings Hall at stoke and "Sensation" blasting to a packed floor is really what it's all about ! Yes Bob the flip is really nice ,but to appreciate the flip you'd have to be there...
  11. Yes that's the one young man, Mick was where one of those first little clutch of went to .Was it in the back room he played it ,if i remember at lowton ? i also played it a few times at the early Lifeline's when i first found it (i dare say it was known about before that ,but it was new to me at that time !)
  12. The pair of you should wash your ears out with soap .. The ballad really is nice, aswell as the uptempo flip with girly reply to the hook line - John Washington is vocally very versatile and sings with soul and passion ! Is it the absence of the group that makes it terrible Bob ? I think the people aren't familiar with these two sides otherwise i'm sure it would have had positive reviews... all personal taste though.
  13. Ah well only twenty years out..At least the two scenario's come together and verify Rich as the buyer, come to think of it -i reckon Rich rang Browny up one time when i was there around that time and sold him a copy aswell as the Frankie Lymon on Big Apple for a fortune ! Another occasion Rich rang up and offered Tim that Reverand George Morton on HiQ for £2000 as a unknown ,by this time i think Browny had got wise to the slightly inflated deals and turned the offer down.. Also highly traumatic at the time the realisation he'd never own every soul 45 ! Memorable and funny times. Kev re the Alfredo 45 no idea's about soulbowl carrying stock (although probably ) from what Mark mentions ,but i got around 8 copies via what Billy Nunn had left and sold them to dj's like Paul Sado who in turn gave it some airplay .
  14. Yes quite right young man ,took me 2 hours to find the twatting thing ! Baby, baby ,oh Baby -actually a ok R+B/ organ driven dancer /jazz flip i think fairly common but sounds better now for some reason than it did 20 years ago.. Aye the Lennie Lyn has something in a odd kinda way.. how does the numbering work on this label Bob it seems to be all to cock ? Yes the Paul Mitchell you mention i got that ,along with others on that label ,infact did it come out twice on diff colours or a diff flip ? i'm deffinately not spending hours looking for those !
  15. A cracking dancer and ballad to match.. When Dave G first hooked up with the late Billy Nunn (label owner) very small multiples were there on some of the titles (predominantly the later releases) the odd acetate -one of which was the Four Andantes and the master tapes which Dave put out for Billy (fortunately before he passed away) .Billy apparently was a little reluctant to deal with anyone re the Mo-Do scenario because many years earlier (mid 70's) i think Rich Rosen had met him and bought whatever copies of the Andantes were left (a 25 count box) with roughly 12 copies or so for 25 cents each ! i'd suspect that U.S group buyers would have got them, maybe the copy on the shelves at soulbowl Mark mentions John got from Rich -who knows.. i would have thought the record should be a grand on rarity alone ,a definate tiny custom press.
  16. You're probably right then ,that makes five copies then ! think the spares went to northern dj's ,jesus i'm glad i mostly use my good lady's ebay name now no-one's onto that yet... hopefully !
  17. Again loosely related but never the less rellevent is the John Washington / Daddy Teddybear / Burn the callender / Sandwash , a Agency Studio Recording, certainly the same guy - one side great northern dancer and the flip phew a absolutely fantastic ballad ! in my experience very rare (got 4 copies around 8-10 years ago) sold the spares and haven't seen it since... my "Demanding Man " is nice and clean but like Phil mentions has the fault, a bloody fantastic record ,that comes either water damaged or poor shape ,i would doubt this got any plays at the time ,infact i reckon the label owner(s) would have influenced if not made sure the latter release numbers never sold ! Re the "can't speak" sure garry had just a very small handfull of them ,it's where Guy etc found it on the shelves (Garry is on here ,sure he'll confirm) Strange i can't remember ever coming across those large font dade releases while in the states ,even the Arnold Albury's etc.. I own them but bought them all over here.. ah probably off Garry ! Agree with Dylan Tony Ashley ,Rayons were pigs to find ,and still not common and both outstanding records ...
  18. I'll pull out what i got Bob ,vaguely remember one of the "trio" 45's on the light blue colouring logo being r/b ,northerny ,now if it's soul is another matter, like you say mostly jazz, bit of classical ,the odd organ instro.
  19. Very tricky to find, only ever had one spare copy -that went to his royal highness Tim Brown for a couple of grand around 8 10 years ago.. This really is a strange label with a very diverse style of music indeed ! Am positive the label font was slightly different on the two copies when i compared them - will check it later.
  20. One thing is for sure - Ian's enthusiasm for the music is creditable and over flowing,i've only listened to around 40 minutes of the set at the moment ,but what is apparent is there is no unknowns - having said that who on the scene is currently playing true top quality unknowns ,the odd few on a great day.I guess a key style missing is the uptempo 60's winner that one has to have a handfull of to cut it,that said Ian's delivery and proffesional dj style (toned down ) a tad maybe, maybe what the upfront niter scene needs when you look at what the majority of the so called forward thinking players have to offer ? White shite ,black shite both included in there, some good black vocals too.....
  21. When my mate found a small handfull few years ago he'd mentioned about the group line up change ,but pointed out that the lead on " message " was certainly a black vocalist -infact i'm sure he sent me a couple of black and white 10 x 8 promo photo's with the copies of the 45 - will have to try find em.
  22. Long lasting memories of the short time you were here mate,at least we put the soul scene to rights at Al's engagement recently ! a.t.b Ted.
  23. A very interesting read,great pictures too !
  24. Yes tend to agree with the "freshen up" point ,if you're a collector there's no logic to that, you buy it to keep it..never ever buy tunes to dj with ! Not sure how the top dj's do it but ive only found in the last 3-4 years a couple of new things that i think are good enough to play out - one was less than £20 and the other less than a grand ,found lots of decent things but few mind blowers.I rely on things i've had for years and years, but they are few and far between.
