  1. Have you seen Detroit? It is currently on Sky movies, and is a dramatisation of a true story and features at it's centre the Dramatics of Inky Dinky and All Because of you Fame. It is a bit of a tough watch at times because of the racial violence, but well worth watching for the story and the music.
  2. Older? I am 66 and there are loads that are older than me. I was 15 when I first went to Wigan and me and my mates were among the youngest there!
  3. I agree, everyone slags it off for always achieveing stupidly high prices but the reality is that if a record is going through a researgence at the clubs it always goes for daft money. 5-6 years ago I sent JM a copy of Milton Wright I belong to You. I bought it for £45 5 years earlier but it became massive at the time and he sold it for £985 which to was nuts because I didn't even like the record. Also it depends on who is bidding just look at the 2 copies of the Tomangoes that sold recently, a VG+ ish copy on Tim Brown for £9k and Ex++ on JM for about £3k. Personally I still prefer auctions to set sales because you get the chance to offer what the record is worth to you at that time and don't lose out because you were either not online at the time or haven't figured out the sneaky ways to get a preview of what is for sale before the emails come out.
  4. All pretty much as expected but I do think that Frankie and The Classical was a bit cheap considering how rare a decent UK copy is these days and you hardly ever see one for sale and it was a huge record for this of us who are old enough.
  5. Absolutely agree! UMT was a big record in the soul/Mod clubs back in the days before the term Northern Soul had been coined. Most of the people who deride these records, never heard them in the in the day and just slag them off which is total hypocrisy, except for Barnaby Bye, which is, was and will forever be absolute shite.
  6. I didn't know Ted persoanlly but we chated online and over email because he was working for a company that supplied equipement to the same industry as me. Despite still being an avid rcord collector I have been away from the scene for donkeys years and no idea untll a cople of years ago what a ledgend he was, smashing down to earth bloke and a sad very loss.
  7. Another vote for no pew-pews at an all niter or in fact in any records.....IMHO. Reminds me of when my little sister bought a copy of Anita Ward-Ring my Bell it f'kin drove me mad for moths, she would play it over and and over again,
  8. I absolutely agree. I replied to someone who is often seen on this wants section. The record that he wanted is a in my world worth around £1250 especially as the copy that I have is as close to a minter that you will ever see. But the bloke was complete nutcase, He messaged me at least 10 times, sometime accusing me a being a BS, other time telling me I was lying and didn't heve the record, Then 2 minutes later another messages say that he wanted to buy it, them 10 minutes later another abusive one. I made the crucial mistake of emailing him some picures and then it all stated again, more abusive messgaes, more saying he wanted to buy it then 5 minutes later one telling me he has found another copy that is better and he has bought that. Thank God I thought, BUT I noticed today he is still posting wants for exactly the same record! I am convinced that he is an absolute dreamboat who never actually buys anything.

  10. There is currently one on Ebay, that looks like it could be a bargain, unless the bidders are all waiting?

Hi I waited around 3 weeks for mine to arrive, I did chase them by email several times because they do not always answer. Persona;;y I think that they were taken by surprise by the number of orders that they got and are struggling to cope. Drop them an email and I am sure that they will reply.
  12. Wow! they are good
  13. The problem with a lot of the Youtube videos is that people copy the film and dub over it with their favorite records, so the folks in these are actually dancing to a different record. The only way to see real dancers is to watch the live stuff, like the dreaded Footsie video where you can tell that the video is original and then you can see these people with no timing or sense of rhythm who are either just posing or can't dance. When the dancing comps started at Wigan I always use to exit stage right and make my way up to Mr M's for some real banging oldies
  14. There is a huge difference between feeling the music and just hearing it and nothing shows this up more than these videos. Watch the ones of the Blackpool dancing comps it makes me cringe because there are so many people throwing themselves around and doing backdrops for the sake of it AND SO OBVIOULSY NOT IN TIME WITH THE MUSIC. A lot of them are new to the music and didn't grow up with it and it shows. I went to Wigan in 1973 because I loved soul music and had grown up on a diet of Motown, Ric Tic and the like and went there because it was an extension of what had happened in the years before, not because it got on the telly.
  15. Just when I thought that record prices were off their peak we see Chapter V go for almost £2k, £1k for a UK demo of Frankie & Johnny on Manship and now £1600 for Eddie Foster and £1100 for James Fountain. I think that I need to revalue my collection and check the home insurance!
  16. I think that some of these bids just may have me beaten?
  17. I can't beleive the price for The High Keys, anyone want a M- example for a little bit less than the final auction price? Pictures and sound track can be arranged, just need a day to dig it out.
  18. Ive also heard The Salvadors in Co-op Wareham and one Saturday afternoon around 5 years ago I walked past a Thai restaurant in Ringwood and almost broke into a dance to Tobi Legend! Matt Brown is a 'modern' to y ears but a great choon
  19. Morrisons cafe, Weymouth was playing Bobby Hebb Love, Love, Love a month or so ago.
  20. I hated the dance comps and always took a quick exit to Mr M's. It always put a downer on the evening, watching a bunch of posers, most of whom couldn't dance to the music that was playing.
  21. JM always seems to get top money, but then again the records are always in absolutely the best condition. I have bought a few 'Manship Mints' over the years.
  22. Maybe the cheapest of the bunch but Johnny Sayles is probably my favourite, but the others are difficult to resist for any collector of British label soul like me. I just wish that they didn't all come along at once, if I win more than one my wife will go nuts! But it will be worth it, for a while.
  23. Hi Please would you reply to my messages. Thanks Paul
  24. Those of us who are old enough and probably ugly enough will remember when all of these were just regular choons. Personally I love all 3 or 4 and used to really enjoy hearing and dancing to them as part of the night, rather than just as the enders. Just my oppinion.
  25. I know that Joe Dunlop sold a copy very recently for around £1000, it is a rare UK record and has much better sound quality than the US copies and is prized by collectors of British labels and demos. Personally I think that £800-1000 is the right price range so whoever bought that one got a bargain and the seller is probably very disappointed because he will only get £545.60
