Wanted ...whoops
Can you post a pic of the demo? I have the Argo Canadian and it is a white label but does not reference promo on it? All Argo from this period on Canadian have the white label, same as Parkway stuff. Cheers

Cheapo's Record Stall In Soho
Another shop was out in Leytonstone? Jim Wilson? I remember buying Soul stuff from him. We were travelling up from Cheltenham late 70's once a month to Soul and reggae concerts and used to stay at my mate Bob Deane's (not a Soul fan, a mate from school who moved up to work) flat in Balham. He used to share with 3 other blokes who went home every weekend so we had a bed for the weekend. He used to go mad as we would clean the fridge out as well after he had gone to bed when we got back from the concerts. We used to spend all day Saturday and Sunday looking for records and get the last coach home from Victoria - happy days.

Ebay Sellers That Post Using Crap Packaging
Not so sure about this. I feel a little bit pissed off when a buyer tells me how to pack a record when I have 1500 positives and no broken 45's? I use 2 pieces of thick cardboard and edged with brown packing tape - not had a problem with breaks yet. I did have one numpty send me a Golden World promo in one of the UK mailers but with no stiffeners. His response to the 2 pieces was - "should have insured it"

Bettye Lavette - The Book
Just an update. I think Betty should have taken more notice of the people telling her what to sing. Very disappointed last night, very guitar heavy Blues most of the night, long rambling dialogue between songs and covers of Rock songs (I know she did the album). Songs from her recent CD's and absolutely nothing from her 60's/70's era. The support band was interesting, a 26 piece band with horns and strings doing absolutely note perfect Motown covers?!?! 4 different singers who alternated the vocals on the songs with the last song being a great cover of Aint No Mountain High Enough Not only that but had a bit of aggro with a drunk who plonked his self in our seats whilst I was at the bar. Despite several polite requests by the ladies in our party he just would not budge so he had to be "encouraged" to get up I know I should know better at my age but he really was an obnoxious get. Security called - I said I would replace the drink that "accidentally" got spilt on him.

Oh dear, I was going to ask her to sign a couple of 45's?? Good idea?- Any Soul Clubs Left In Toronto?
No, in a nutshell. There is the odd Funk night but Funk is taken in its broadest sense. The Toronto Jazz Festival starts next week and so far we are going to see Betty Lavette and George Benson (not on the same bill). If you can you should try and get to the Flea Market in St Catherines, you go past on the way to Niagara. Last time there I got Harry Starr, Brown Sugar, Sandra Phillips amongst a pile of other Northern stuff and reggae white labels for a couple of $$ each. Down side is it is Sunday only. There are a couple of vinyl shops in the town as well. The St Catherines Record Show is this weekend so i will be hitting the flea as well I believe there are a couple of Flea markets out the other way - Whitby - but I have not been that way for a long time. Mod Club is more of a concert venue now. Check out Vibrations.ca for a list of local Record Shows, they are on most weekends and I dont mind a passenger if I am in the area. Let me know the dates. I also have a few bits for sale and am about 45 mins out town in Waterdown. There is a new shop opening on College Street in a week or two run by a young lad who used to work for Martin at Kops. Henry's warehouse out in Scarborough is always worth a couple of hours. Cosmos West used to have 1000's of 45's in the basement but they have now moved and I have not been but am told it is not too good for 45's anymore. There vare still a fair few shops on Queen, College and Yonge but it really is hit or miss.- Bettye Lavette - The Book
Off to see her in a week or so in Toronto.- Marine Ballroom. Evesham
Gupshill manor in Tewkesbury?- Rare Stuff 2Day
I am still waiting to find a Charmaines for a couple of bucks!! and an Allen Sisters!!- Buying Blind
I have a bag af 25 country 45's to take to the show on Sunday. Has anyone ever seen the Vinyl documentary? There is a guy in that called Lynn Russwurm, he has a warehouse near here chock full of country stuff and puts out auction lists every 3 months, he will take them off me, usually at $2 each. There are some VERY obscure looking Detroit labels that I just had to buy- Buying Blind
I buy blind a lot at record shows. Most sellers have 45's at no more than $2 each and some at 50c. Picked up some belters in the last few years and vendors know I do not quibble about the prices. Also found a lot of rare garage things this way that have moved on for a few $$$. I am also at a point where dealers hold stuff for me and even email me - in fact I am picking up a purple Okeh promo by the Artistics and a 45 by The Executives for $5 each on Sunday.- Fed Up With These - Take Em Off Me - Jr Walker - Volumes - Superlatives - All Cheapo
Test Press - No Idea - 20 Made me chuckle!- Solomon Burke On John Manships
I put a mint Plum label Canadian issue on here a few onths ago and got zero interest?- Johnny Dunn-Hanging Me Up
No, I am not disputing yours is original, I am wondering if the boot I bought has the hexagon label!! I will dig it out tonight and take a look- Johnny Dunn-Hanging Me Up
I think I may disagree with this but will have to wait until I get home to be certain. I posted a pic on here some time ago and was told it was a boot. It had the hex shape you show. Ok, did a quick search of the site but I never put a pic up. I will try and remedy that tonight. Either it is a boot or Kops put out a 45 that should have gone to UK- Fleur De Lys - Mud In Your Eye - Polydor - Uk
Friend over here in South West Ontario has a copy of this he is looking to get rid of. Not sure if there would be any interest here but thought I would give it a go. I have some photos that I can send to interested parties. Fleur De Lys - Mud In Your Eye/Ive Been Trying - Polydor 56124 - UK Original It is not mint but in very nice condition. If any one has any intetrest let me know by PM and I can send the pics over.- Madeline Bell - Soul Time
What album is it on? I left a Madeline Bell album at a show yesterday. Condition was a bit iffy and price was $25? - Bettye Lavette - The Book
