What's Not To Like . . . .
excellent voice. Far from "murdering" the songs like others did when they tried to cover soul classics. But she's lacking deepness. Has she ever tried to cover a ballad? I once said to my wife if I'd ever be a judge on X-factor/xxx got talent/whatever show I'll ask them to cover Loleatta Holloways "cry to me". That's a song to separate the wheat from the chaff.

What Is A Pressing?
My definitions: Original - first legal press. Applies to local and later national releases, both original. Releases in other countries can be originals too if issued around the same time, e.g. within 2/3 years after the initial issue, e.g. UK Stateside issues Reissue - much later legal re-release due to demand, be it from the Northern scene or Doo Wop scene or whatever. Independent of country of origin, e.g. most UK Grapevine releases are reissues even though they're first UK releases. Pressings/Bootlegs: both the same, illegal re-releases. Or illegal presses of previously unissued recordings, e.g. Bob Dylan's infamous basement recordings. Counterfeits: Pressings/Bootlegs made with every effort to look like the original presses. Have I forgotten anything? Edit: have amended the "pressings/bootlegs" bit.

What Is A Pressing?
"what is a pressing?" - just another term for a bootleg. Period.

John Manship Auction Results 31 - 12 - 2014
Just a guess. Would explain the sudden demand, wouldn't it?

John Manship Auction Results 31 - 12 - 2014
Pete, you refer to the 70s. But it's 2015 now. Meanings of terms have changed. Nowadays a "pressing" isn't something done for the Northern scene, it's just another term for a bootleg. Or do you consider all the G2K's and 100 Club anniversary 45's pressings?

John Manship Auction Results 31 - 12 - 2014
I don't think so. It's probably just some kind of miracles of christmas. I was already gobsmacked when it went 200+. It's been a bubbling-under lesser known for decades and was, from what I remember, a 50/75 tune for many many years. But that's the power of massive plays. Maybe I'll make my copy available for the market now?

John Manship Auction Results 31 - 12 - 2014
First time I read that. IMO, pressing = bootleg. Any legal record that wasn't released before is an original, be it from the 1960's or 2000's.

Wanted/ Michael Wycoff - Looking Up To You / Rca 12" Demo
Collecting specifc presses is not sad. It's a weird kind of collecting habit about 99% of SS members can relate to. Good luck!

Wanted/ Michael Wycoff - Looking Up To You / Rca 12" Demo
Any specific reason what it has to be a demo? I know of a black label 12" issue that might be for sale.

Baby Cakes also done by Maxine Brown. Sort of more polished version, quite nice. But not as frantic as Loretta.

Scratch/jump Removal On 45
It's hard to remove a scratch that causes annoying noise like clicks etc.. But pretty easy to remove a jump if it results from a scratch*. Downside is, even though it won't jump anymore it still will have an annoying tick for a few seconds. * Edit: if jumps comes from a pressing faul (e.g. narrow grooves) I believe there's nothing you can do about it.

Unknown Record My Arse It's Sh**e
Apart from a few trustworthy sellers I never believe in such sales talk rubbish like "unknown", "unlisted", etc. The other day a belgian seller listed a german 45 on Ebay, saying it's "a german only 45". Well, multiple copies of the US equivalent available on Ebay, all buy-it-now starting as low as $2.99. Luckily nobody fell for it and auction finished w/out any bids.
