It was played at many continental 6Ts/Mod dances I attended 10/12 years ago. Always had a good dancefloor reaction. Actually, when I first heard it played out (probably in Italy) I went up to the DJ and asked for details. Name/title were somehow familiar. When I went back home I remembered I saw it in the 2.50 cheapies section of the latest Voices from the Shadows list just a few days earlier. Of course it was gone when I rang Rod. All copies he had.

Of course it's not Detroit. From what Joerg told me it's just the place he found it. The Val Simpson acetates demos I've heard so far were all pretty sparse and by far not as full production as this one here. I agree, it doesn't sound finished but it's close. Maybe some strings and more horns? The more you guys say the Crystals the more I tend to agree with you. I look forward to what conclusion Ady's Girl Group experts come.

This applies only to previously unissued things. A 2013 7" release of a 1968 LP track isn't OVO.

my friend Joerg Puresoulie found this in Detroit, "I want a guarantee", uncredited 7" acetate. Same tune as Maxine Brown. I know there's also a songwriters demo acetate by Val Simpson but from what I remember that one is very sparse. My bet it's the Apollas, what do you think? 45 sec clip here: 14 Female Soul.wav

So, looks like it's one the top 5 marmite records? I despised it when I heard it the first time (was on tape) and never rated it much ever since. Well, one day I heard it at a do and it blew me away. Great record when played out...

Or get wider card board sleeves. The ones I buy over here in Germany are just a tad larger than the cut out ones usually sold in the UK. a usual size paper sleeve fits in easily.

I remember Richard Domar had a white test press for sale for years. No takers, probably because it was quite expensive (250 or so).
