  1. Hi Dave, any info from Charles regarding that Tommy Starr theory of mine so far ?
  2. by me for example...every now and then over the last two/three years. Great tune. Funny thing is at the end of the tune you can hear the last few bars of a different almost country-esk tune. Which goes to show you that they overdubbed the tape of an old tune while recording this track. Only have one other 45 on Ree Flair which is as good as Dewey`s tune.
  3. Wonder what it is with this tune, played it a few times at General Soul events here in Berlin and to some people at my home base...everybody seems to dig this nice number Value between 20 and 50 UKP. Maybe cheaper on the bay though... Great lyrics btw. Marc
  4. Other side to "The Grapevine" on Steeltown, class tune indeed. Played here and there for a period of ten years ...still 15 UKP at a guess..

    My original sure is green.
  7. Let me know if you secured a copy, if not I`ll bring you a copy along next week to Lifeline !
  8. Very friendly, gentle and valued customer of mine. Marc
  9. Tommy Starr (Loma) = Charles Mintz (Uplook) ? I think yes. His "Better Think Of What.. / Love Wheel" on Loma is not only also produced by one certain Jesse Hering (who also produced this unreleased Uplook tune on Charles Mintz) it also sounds 100 % identical and the same .
  10. Manship got around 250 UKP for his copy, I paid 50 UKP so a fair value might be 150 UKP ? Great record and pretty rare (and good!) Marc
  11. 600 to 800 UKP

Exactly my thoughts the moment I had writen my first statement. But still...nearly 2000 UKP for a VG+ copy. I stopped looking after it had crossed 1100 UKP. Marc

Amazing, isn`t it...about 400 UKP+ more than it was recently on soul source. And I thought every collecting Soulie would be a member of Soul Source already. Apparently not.
  14. What a great artist he has been and how much he did give us all. Marc
  15. Hi there John, the world is a small place indeed...great...yes, a bargain...if not already a steal Marc
  16. Well, Sly, Slick and the Wicked is a strong candidate in my playlsts since about a year now and its a great 45 to be played at Modern and / or Funk nights. Always have one person asking me what the heck this brilliant records is... ...Had some multiple copies of these and at first had no bidders an my issue...which is harder than the demo of course. If you imagine Vibrations "Shake It Up" you are very close to the sound of this precious 45. Marc
  17. It had been booted in the eighties along other early Detroit stuff. I had it until the real deal came along. Quite easy to spot the difference as the repro is done with a badly done copy of the originla label design. Marc
  18. ...is ending in a few hrs time pus loads of other good stuff incl. Soul Brothers/Sho Biz, Saints/Kent, Terry & The Tyrants etc. have a look please... https://search.ebay.com/search/search.dll?s...op=1&fsoo=1 Many thanks for your interest,
  19. Which reminds me that there is another copy in Germany...a collcetor in Bremen has got one. A real one.
  20. Well, thank you sir, there you go that is my copy...900 UKP...told you it was cheap
  21. Well, I bought mine end of 2005 off ebay...a mint (!) with only a light storage warp. Don`t remember the price (as I am not to keen on memorizing prices on records which I will never ever sell) but remember saying to myslef "that was CHEAP!"...however, I have all his early records (Wheel City, Keke, Fortune and Jackpot) and must say, yes this is rare and great but his rarest must be his Jackpot 45. Melvin Davis himself did not even know it had been released, Butch didn`t knew it when I first played and showed him my copy and I had to search bloody 16 years for my first copy (and all of a sudden found a second copy -its always the same- had that experience with Little Stanley and "Doc truelove" as well ). As his Jackpot 45 is not known and a tad too early for most Northern Soulers it hasn`t got really a price tag and I ended up with trading this second copy to Steve Z. Marc
  22. I thought so myself already thats why I didn´t scratch my head to much on the Jimmy Bo Horne which I sold just two weeks ago at 1000 UKP.
  23. The tune was once re-released in a limited edition completely with a nice picture sleeve but I don`t knwo if they used the same label. Great tune still...so who was first Honey Cone or Emanon`s ?
  24. What a great 45 ! But five years is nth....I had to wait about 15+ years, But having said so, for the first 13 years I though this tune was only an unreleased Lupine track only. It was thru Rare Soul Review that I got notice of that 45 and happily secured a minter. Dead rare piece.
