  1. It's a nice tune and I like Frank Dell's vocal style BUT HBYGWO is too slow for a dancer and the great 'BABY YOU'VE GOT IT' is too fast (now !!)

With the Magnetics LIG these really sum up the predominant sound of the time - that were played in many venues - but now generally come under the umbrella of the 'Stafford TOTW Sound' Must have been some collection..

  5. Not a very rare record Pete, got a national distribution as you're aware, but can I pick one up in clean condition for a decent price

  10. £150 - £175 Great tune
  11. I will only send as 'gift' to people I have bought from in the past and trust.. Agreed - paypal does enable a transaction mechanism so helping to facilitate sales and buyers should generally factor that in.. But Benji, be careful with your red 'rug' you'll find it will be like a red 'rag' to a bull

  15. Don't beat around the bush Pete - tell us what you really think!
  16. Nice version, great soulful slighlty jazzy feel (could imagine Nina Simone doing a good job) and a nice deep flip - but like you say not really for the Northern dancers..

Liked this tune for along time Azza so good to hear your championing it (an old cleethorpes I'm informed??) Another nice tune by Mr Ferguson is "There Is A Gift" on pompeii
  18. Premium price - another example of the trend toward a high price differential paid for the best condition and rarest format ???
  19. I know this is a tuff one to turn up clean (and a nice double sider) but at this price? https://www.ebay.com/...cvip=true&rt=nc Now it could be seen as a bid war price but It seems to me that this is another example of the trend toward an increasing premium for top condition collectable 45's (something that JM's auction prices seem to show?) The interesting thing for me is that this seems to challenge the standard definition of 'guide' prices and especially value differentials i.e. EX / VG++ as 80% of NM value etc. In this case that would value an EX copy at $428 wich I doubt we would see... No financial downturn for these bidders
  20. Although not the most exciting thread it's not 'stupid'.. What I believe the poster may be alluding to is JM's dubious assertion that there is such a thing as "the worlds number 1 northern DJ" There are certainly a group of what are generally considered top DJ's and people with amazing collections but I doubt Butch would be arsed about claiming any such title or even the accolade from JM. Basically, just the usual sales pitch that JM's employs which, imho, I find interesting and humorous at the same time

Nice tune from a great artist.

Brilliant soulful tune as is the fantastic "Maybe You'll Be Back"
  23. Can't and never will understand the obsession with the term "The Scene" - what scene. Throughout the history of the appreciation of black american music there have always been a number of "sceneS" who has the divine right to determine what and who comprises such a fabled ivory tower. Long gone are the days of the homogenous mass movement of the Northern Soul - that some are desperate to preserve - just as are the days of belonging to one or other youth cult en masse. I have my preferences I will happily evangelise, but that's what they are, mine and not something to force down people's throat. That said, I welcome the freedom for anybody to partake, contribute and most of all enjoy the many aspects of the music regardless of age, dress sense, level of knowledge, tenure, ov etc If it's a wigan revival, mixed sets, young, older whatever.. Finally, we have to remember everybody starts at the beginning and most of the fun is in the journey imho as Flanny points out in his post signature "JUST BECAUSE EVERTHINGS DIFFERENT DOESNT MEAN ANYHING HAS CHANGED"

There's definitely a few more about now but what a tune and 275 is the best price I've ever seen it for, the Eastern press seems to be the more scarce of the two now but I still prefer this slightly different version...
