  1. ‘Soul People of Interest’ Hi Folks, I was playing a few 70’s tunes at home the other evening and it reminded me of a time when I was a young lad just getting into the Scene, seeing Adam Buchanan as one of my hero’s as some of you guyz would have looked upon the likes of Richard Searling (or whoever) I don’t see Adam's name about as much nowadays, but thought it would be nice if anyone else can remember how ground breaking he was back then. I never went to Leicester Odd Fellows, so it would be good to hear what he meant to people who did see him ‘in action’ there, and other places such as Stafford of course. Now we’re ‘all grown up’ Adam and I can laugh about my ‘hero worship’ of him. Years later, he was D.Jing at me and Nina’s wedding and he played ‘Shaft’ as we were cutting the cake - Great stuff! I find it interesting to hear what people have done to help form the tapestry of the Scene, you may want to put other names forward for discussion, but please keep it kind folks -”If you can’t say anything nice, don’t say nothing at all”.... ….So, in the words of Barry ‘The Thread Starter’ - Discuss! All the best, Len P.s - Photo's would be a welcome addition to the Topic.
  2. Don't close it mate - The thing is, of course some topics will be repeated because some people may have missed it the 1st, 2nd, 3rd or whatever time round, but while people are contributing, it's not hurting anyone....mostly anyway! People need encouraging to open up discussions, not put off just in case it may have been done before. If you missed a topic, so what, have a chat with someone else about the subject (All except the 'you know what' subject) I love Crossover!......If Crossover is what I think it is - Monotonous and goes absolutely nowhere - GREAT! A D.J's job is.......b*gger I forgot again! All the best, Len
  3. Or an 'OpooO' Thead! Sorry - Not very constructive....Ummmmm, I'm still trying to find out what a D.J's responsibility is..... Len
  4. Yes, I’ve said this before — The people who are at the top of their game are usually the nicest, most unassuming people you could ever meet. I think (know) some people judge them by their own standards and presume they are ‘up themselves’ — That, they are not! Example 1 — Butch at The 100 Club came over to ‘our side’ (just the once!) and says to Nina “Lenny’s after a record, but I have to say, it would help if he knew what it was called or at least who it was by” …..(No ridicule whatsoever) Example 2 — 100 Club (again) Sitting next to Keb Darge (Yes, me next to Keb!) lol Someone was playing ‘Love is Serious Business’ me (a bit blocked) “Keb, have you heard the 12” of this?”…..he replied “No”…..Me, realising what a mundane thing to say, quick as a flash said “Mmmmm, well it’s like this, only it goes on a bit longer”….”Oh, I’m glad you shared that with me” he replied (Both seeing the funny side) My point being, a lesser person would have ridiculed me for such nonsense, but he knew what place I was in and it really was hilarious! Dean, was on the list anyway, hence my ‘et al’ …If anyone would like a copy of the full ‘Lenny List’ you can ‘e’ mail me at len@lowercaseyesthatsalllowercase.com and I’ll be happy to oblige! One of ‘the characters’ of the scene I will always remember is Mad Mick from Burton, not that he would remember me if he were alive today but there are reasons why we remember such characters. These are just a sample of the things that have made my personal journey special to me. All the best, Len P.s — I won’t go into the ‘Forgetful’ conversation I had with Russ ‘The Knowledge’ Vickers at Life-line…..but it’s these moments…… P.p.s - Steve Smith — On the list mate (The Stoppers) ....If you are the Gloucester / Kettering Steve Smith that is!
  5. lol - I was actually going to add...."and of course there's always Tony Smith lurking in the background" ......I didn't because I'm still moody with him, reason (s) being - eeeevery time I try to be 'cutting edge' Tony's got at least one copy and has (of course) had it years! - Just let me have my moment the once Tony! Yeh, you are correct, Tony has his place, and I like the fact that not loads of folk would know this - Top fella. All the best, Len (I know my place)
  6. Ooooo, yours gnash their teeth as well - That is a relief! All the best, Len
  7. Once every 3 - 6 months for me nowadays - Damn those priorities!!! Hats off to those who still do it almost week in, week out - I suspect there's only a couple of hundred of you left that do. I did at least a ten year 'stint' like that.....If I remember....... I'll be interested in the results of the poll. All the best, Len
  8. I was gonna put it, but I daredn't - So well done! All the best, Len
  9. 'Art freeman - Slipping Around With You' Why not aye? - Passes the time All the best, Len
  10. A little before my time I know, but when these guyz were at their 'prime', Butch, Keb, Guy Hennigan, Colin Law, Kitch, Gilly et al, they really were good at what they did - they knew their stuff didn't they? Chr*st, they turned over records so fast that all these years later, people are only just picking up on them - That is what I call ahead of their time 30 years later, and I'm D.Jing with their scraps at a soul night near you! All the best, Len P.s - I also think Jocko has a place on that list somewhere! P.p.s - Not forgetting Rob Marriot, whom I've never met but am still hunting and D.Jing with tunz off his tapes from the 80's
  11. Smack on! All the best, Len
  12. I have another where he says....."This is about as R 'n' B as I get" ..... I love D.J banter, you got to listen hard to catch it though - For years I couldn't understand a word any of them said, but thought that in itself was cool All the best, Len
  13. Awesome tape mate..... All the best, Len.
  14. Ain't that the truth? To me, Ed has always come across as having an 'edge' - Nice fella. All the best, Len
  15. We were at The Ritz during the 90’s and Ginger walked past us, going towards the decks, Nina said “Is that Ginger Taylor?”….I replied “Mmmm, you may be right there…..he certainly looks like a Taylor doesn’t he?” (All 'dead pan' like) We were in fits for about half an hour — Brilliant! Ain’t it great when one is ‘on point’ at a Nighter?! All the best, Len
  16. Doh! - Someone beat me to it; sorry I'll read the whole thread before commenting. Len
  17. Apparently he used to wear a belt that the buckle was in the word 'Butch' - Chr*st I hope he doesn't read this, because knowing that is reeeeealy sad! I always thought it was for tax reasons — It also gives them a ‘Mystique’, but I don’t think they actually choose to use an alias for that reason, it just does (To me anyway) All the best, Len (‘D.J Lenard’)
  18. Have any of you actually taken the time to listen to J.L.S?.......I'm joking! All the best, Len
  19. I wouldn't say Eds image was comedy at all, because he's one of the originals - The comedy ones are the ones that never 'did it' in the first place and are 'playing the part' - I.M.H.O of course All the best, Len
  20. Len commented on Pete S's article in Articles - Archives

  21. I hope I didn’t come across as some Soul-source anal expert, I thought you would want to know as I would if I’d made such a ‘catastrophic’ error I to made a mistake once (Not sure what this icon means, but it's a rare one) All the best, Len P.s — Ref above folks, write down the titles of clips posted.

Hi Alan, Are you talking about the 'unwritten' rule or was the actual term used back then? - I know it definitely went without saying. All the best, Len P.s - I was a mod
