  1. Superb, where and when will the doc be screaned?
  2. totally unrelated to the sale mate, but I heard Led Zep used to do this in there early shows! no recording of it though.
  3. A few more that sat @ Bidds reminded me of, I'm sure that neither were first played @ Keele but they will always be associated with the place for me. Wilson Picket- Let me be your boy (played @ Bidds) Freddie Houston- Soft Walking (purchased @ Bidds)
  4. Keel may have not been breaking tunes to fans that had been on the scene for 20 years or more - but I guarantee you that this 20 year old was hearing plenty of new and exiting things every time I attended !!!! . Thats exacxtly where I'm coming from, and judging by the age of a lot of atendees to the last King hall, some punters who first atended keele nighters are are returning!
  5. fair point mate, I got into nighters around 87, so I just seemed to me that these tunes were associated with this place having missed out on late wigan and even Stafford, but I think its fair to say that these were absolutly hammered @ keele, like 3 time a night! I know these were played previously on the scene but to many on the scene who were teens or early 20's then, I think they'll be eternallly associated with that venue.
  6. With this lonstanding venue not with us anymore I thought it might be nice to reflect on the sounds that were big here in its halcyon days, (mid 8ts- early 9ts). There's been loads of stuff on here about the holy trinity of 70's venues, but at the time this was probably, along with the 100 club, the most signifigant venue from this underlooked era of the scene. OK I know it was know as primarly an oldies allnighter but the reactivations and revivals are still of interest, as well as the breaking nighter sounds. To start us off here are a couple I certainly remember being massive when the venue first started, Doug Banks- I just kept on dancing Howard Guyton - Iwatched you slowly slip away Imaginations- strange neighbourhood.
  7. Have to say that I havent seen anything like the buzz that this shop used to have, ay 10 years ago, of late The staff although helpful seem to lack the enthusiasm and passion they once had for soul in particular. This place was a great meeting place and hub at one time. so maybe the move might revitalise it.
  8. Just to echo Jez's sentiments really, thought this was a fantasdtic venue and atmoshre, sorry I couldnt make tha last one, and I wish you well with all future ventures.
  9. Geese. Playlist 9th, October 2010-10-13 I got the graveyard shift on this first night of our new extended opening hours. I did my best to deter those who were desperately in search of bed and kebabs from leaving and keep the floor as busy as possible right till the end. Not the most serious of spots Ive played, with loads of classics, many of which are addmitably overplayed but no the less still great to dance to.after copius amount of larger. Quite a few were request that I attempted to satisfy. By no means comprehensive, tis but a blur! Patti and the emblems- love you a long, long time Percy Wiggins- that's loving you Four tops- something bout you Gladys Knight- just walk in my shoes Bobby Taylor- I've been blessed Robert John - Raindrops love and sunshine Paramount four- Sorry aint the word Carla Thomas- Never stop lovin' you Illa Vann- you made me this way Voices of east Harlem- Cashing in Mickey Moonshine- name it you got it Lou Rawls- See you when I git there Ojays - I love music Williams and Watson- too late Willie Mitchel- Champion Tamps- scruboard Anne Sexton- You've been gone too long Jnr Walker- I aint going nowhere Velors I'm gonna change Mamie Lee - I can feel him slipping away Paramount four- sorry aint the word, Again (by demand!) Maxime Brown - One in a million More dates hear next year, till then see you @ the Pavillion on sunday 7th November.

  15. Here's me litle lot from saturday, many thanks for Steve who booked me and to Chic and Pete for honouring it. This venue has a fantastic identity and format and deserves to be supported as Cheshire's premier rare soul night! Reggie Soul - My world of ecstacy Les Mcann- Sad little girl (LP) Harvey Averne Dozen- Think it over (LP) reminds me of tales of the unexpected soooooooooo much! Patti and the Emblems- Its the little things Kris Petterson- just as much Lollipops- Loving good feeling Charmers- Looking for trouble Jo- anne Garret- Whole new plan Bud Harper- Wherever you were John Bowi- you're gonna miss a good thing Chosen Few- birth of a playboy Kent Meade- Funky to me Al Robinson- Sho nuff bout to drive me wild Marva Lee- Cant be true Larry Williams- You're the one Tony Diamond- Dont turn away Esther Philips- Just say goodbye Billy Soultreee- Im your man Celeste Hardy- Your gone Paramount Four- Sorry aint the word Illa Vann- you made me this way Brothers Guiding light - getting together
  16. costs are massive for this venue, and its not the same as it was beforw twas done up.
  17. Very touching sentimnets mate, well said!
  18. And exactly what do you do to keep Wigan open then.?........which l'm sure was a lot more influential to The Northern Soul Scene than the 100 Club Controversial but the 100 has probably been more influencial in the last 20 years, for people of my age it set the standards in the 8ts.
  19. Just cant believe it specially after saturday and a trumphant return by me after 20 years, looking round the walls at the photo's before we left @6 AM, all those scenes, the diversity and span of this place is emense, will sign up tonight, we cant let this happen!
