    Think you hit the mail on the head here. It's the lack of central venues that causes the problem of tagging a record to a dj. There is just no cohesion anywhere on whats left of the scene. It just seems like lots of factions all pulling in different directions.

    The jack Ashford album should be of interest. The freemont street track is wonderful. Would love a copy of that.

    in fairness, yes its inferior, but its a better Jackie Wilson impersonation than you'd get out of most singers.

    Think it's an overhang from dance dj culture. It never seemed to be around in the 80' s to the same extent, pre the impact of house.

    Think he makes some very valid points and you shouldn't be put of with the terminology. Though, I too, can't tolerate anyone who calls refers to records as..... Can't say it. .

    I wonder how many would be truly passionate about soul if they didn't collect? Maybe the passion is for collecting records rather than music in many cases.

    I'd say Northern soul on original labels are relatively cheap compared to the 70"s values.

    What the break stolen from people? It was used on a house tune that was massive in the late 90' s bugging me.

    Couple of old digs, come to mind. First would be Vinyl exchange, Camden town around 1987. The basement was full of singles, in the region of 10k most without sleeves, many 10-50p. Loads of Motown, tune up british x2, one way out British, nothing to good good for my baby, British, ECT. Bought loads of imports blind lots of c and w, a couple of bits that later turned out to be interesting. Good education for me.
