  1. how many super obscure groups 70's and 80's took there cue from this act. So many rare modern tracks are just a pale imitation of EWF's blueprint sound.
  2. Really glad I posted this thread, grt to here some of the anecdotes and picks from you guys, hope some younger/ unenlightened soulsourcers pick it up and get turned onto what is as someone else put it the original soul supergroup.
  3. I think thats the Key listening to EWF is like listening to about 10 other bands at the same time, i9f that makes any sense, LOL.
  4. have to say thats brilliant, listened to it last night, one of those tracks that really comes alive on vinyl through a nice warm old system, analouge rules.
  5. This spell of fine weather got me playing through my earth wind and fire albums, highlights, so far, for me are 'cant hide your love' and 'evil', 'Zanzibar' just wondered if there any other fans on here? what are your personal favorite tracks/ albums.
  6. as much respect as for him as an artist and songwriter, the guy just cant sing anymore, imho, I saw him around 10 years ago and he could'nt then, I was really disapointed. And some of the new material is great but capturing it live isnt like cutting it in a studio. As for the stones, again mucho respect but I find it all a little desperrate really. I'd sooner be catching some new talent.
  7. class album, and what a way to own it, if it exists, where did the snap of the cover come from?
  8. is that the one with 'ooh ooh mr peavly' in it?
  9. why on earth would they want to ruin it by doing that!
  10. found the same thing with ogs myself, uk always very pricey
  11. what a voice, a true king of blues and soul.
  12. I'll vouch for that, bidds is proper bugsy!
  13. oops sorry.
  14. Spiders hard to beat, but this tops it, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P2im2HDJtgc
  15. I payed £2 for otis clay, one of the best chicago dancers ever
  16. think most collectors all have some, 'only use in an emergency' records, think that what people are talking about it.
  17. if its a manhattan loft its half full, if its a town hall in dewsbury its deffo half empy, LOL.
  18. yeah but thats Mancusso at the loft not some bloke from hull djing to a half empty in a town hall in rochdale,
  19. i just think shorter sets build a buzz and help to generate atmosphere. any dj worth his salt whont completley chop into another genre or style straight away, surely you try to intergrate what you start with into the last person set. and gradually nudge the music into another direction. Shorter sets also help this intergration, it gets dj's working together for the good of the night, imho. Rather than being self obsessed and ego driven.
  20. I think this might of really worked a few years ago but things seemed to have moved on Russ, imho, both camps are more entrenched than the've ever been. And I just think its almost impossible to find a middle ground where the majority would be satisfied.
  21. think the peice in grand lam? was done over two issues, as you say great taster for what would make an amazing book.
  22. there is no place like dam on new years, queens day is also amazing.
  23. wish I said that, top post thus far.
  24. to quote Johnny Beggs once again, 'get payed', lol. from my own point of veiw there are no dj's on the northern soul scene, just collectors, jumped up collectors and people with more money than sense.
  25. tis a great track and in an ideal world only you should be playing it. Not getting one done myself, but its hard to work out why what appears to be a bootleg, fetches good money, when you could get a just as valid carver done for under half the price. sposse the vinyl would last longer though.
