Sales Twelves
There was a legitimate UK Atlantic 12" release with exactly that track listing around 1983 - release number was A9891T, I suspect yours is probably a demo or test pressing for that one.

Loleata Holloway - Gold Mind 4000
Yes, it's "Dreamin'"/"Worn Out Broken Heart".

Parkway - Chubby Checker - (at The) Discotheque
This is probably the one you're thinking of, which made the trip from Waltham to Clowne some years back: By the way, the writing is actually on the B-side which has a song called "Hes' A Bad Boy", which I believe is actually a cover version of a better known pop track (can't place the original artist tho'), the actual "Heartaches Away" side label is totally white. Bell Sound stamp in the run out both sides.

Uk President Record Label
As the top one has a three point centre rather than the four point usual for President releases, possibly for some reason President used a different manufacturing plant from usual, as a one off - and neglected/were unable for whatever reason to supply the second plant with a copy of the President logo for the labels so they just made one up to look close to the real one?

Machine Rca 79
And then it loops back to the first verse, perhaps signifying how history repeats itself each generation? (Bit deep for a Friday night eh )

Is the US version you have a demo? I imagine it could have been Bowdlerised for radio play

Complete Beginners Guide To Northern Soul
I'm with Ian D on this one - for an "introduction" package (especially one designed for longevity, as I get the impression this is), it's best really to concentrate on evergreen classics (such as Yvonne Baker, Bobby Hebb, Patti/Emblems etc) - sounds that you'll hear out, or tracks sounding very much like them, maybe not every week but certainly every so often. The trouble with going for current in-demanders - as some posters here are suggesting should have been done - is that they're likely to fall out of favour just as quickly - case in point, 12-24 months ago DJ Genesis "Tonight" was unavoidable - now it's forgotten: likewise only 5 years or so ago Bettye Swann "Kiss My Love Goodbye" was a guaranteed spin at most soul nights, now it's back to forgotten oldie status and hardly ever heard anymore. As always - this is my opinion, I'm not always right

Usa Today Says Linda Jones! Greatest Soul Singer
I imagine Aretha's Respect has also been devalued a bit for many by the fact that a certain controversial politician used to use it as his theme tune

O.v.o And C.r.&.p Venues
Hmm, perhaps in this case another term may be more appropriate...contemporaneous perhaps?

Ian Levine, Motorcity, Centre City, Blackpool Mecca, And Swons
It is a cool label design. I think it'd have been even better with a more '60s style (tall and thin) font for the general text tho (ie not the ubiquitous Helvetica/Arial)

O.v.o And C.r.&.p Venues
...which did actually get a single release on the B-side of "I Guess I'll Always Love You" (TMG683 - which I suppose is actually a reissue as my demo gives a release date of 10/1/69 but a recording date of 1966)

Don't Laugh - Just Played This And It Sounded Brilliant
I don't think it actually was - tv.com and imdb.com have no trace of a "colo(u)red man" series or film, tho' it could have been a pilot project that didn't get picked up

O.v.o And C.r.&.p Venues
Totally agree that lumping reissues and bootlegs together is not only wrong but potentially harmful in that if punters start to see Kent/Grapevine/Goldmine etc as no better than bootlegs they'll just go for the cheaper knock-off-nigel option rather than supporting the hard work of the reissue labels, leading to fewer sales = fewer issues = music doesn't get heard etc and so forth. I know a number of people involved directly in the reissue biz are on here and I'd be interested to hear their thoughts as to whether this has an impact already? By the way, at the last venue I was on at one of the DJs on before me played a Kent reissue of a tune that I have a rather expensive original of in my box - guess how I reacted?

Love it Thinking about it - small elite imposing their doctrine on the masses from whom they are increasingly out of touch...has Tony Blair infiltrated the scene?

Ian Levine, Motorcity, Centre City, Blackpool Mecca, And Swons
I think a lot of the big acts these days have forgotten to write full stop - they just loop a sample much of the time. EG you mentioned MJB - her biggie from not so long back "Hate It Or Love It" borrowes its backing track (tho' admittedly speeded up and enhanced) from The Trammps "Rubber Band". I imagine they can probably get away with this as they're with the label that owns the rights to the original anyway?
