  1. I first heard tittyshaker in 99 when Josh Collins and the Fratshack boys were putting on.events....goes with the Wavy Gravy lps
  2. How much does this go for...I heard it played in Cologne last weekend. Not really my cuppa t but I've 2 copies on the Al tog in the boxes along with a copy of Time and Time.
  3. I'm into uptempo northern and not just oldies...if you treat it as if you are going to an across the board soul gig ...fine but don't be disappointed if you don't get a night of Court Davis Johnny Praye Yvonne Vernee Jesse Davis etc
  4. Was in Cologne on Saturday for Soul City....I'm not an across the board person but I heard stuff from earl r&b,seventies, funk and a few oldies all on ovo....on the decks The Phonetics,Joe Jama,Ujima,Parisians (this was played in Vienna when i was there earlier on in the year) .I finally got around to meeting "the open minded euopeans who have no baggage".They are good at promoting the sounds they spin with cd giveaways etc. There's a lot from a mod background and others who came from the funk scene. It's very young, no balding 50 year olds or beer bellies either and no record dealing i could see. There's no real competition either so they are not competing with a load of other venues and it's great to see they have a passion for original vinyl. A great night out.
  5. Re Terry Callier....he is a jazz artist with one northern soul record with Look at Me Now.Seen him a few times in the acid jazz boom.Imho some of the dream records are overated in the other thread. My proposal sounds like a frat record to me with cheesy farfisa...
  6. What was the Nationwide feature??...I know they did a feature on the scooter rally at Scarborough in 77 on a feature about bank holidays. If youre talking cabaret always preferred The Grumbleweeds,Peddlers and Black Abbots (yes The Painter but She looked My Way aint bad !)
  7. I remember Redcar in 85......there was a full on northern niter ran by the allnighter club of great Britain. Most of the mid seventies northern scooterists were all into northern
  8. I'm off to Soul City in Cologne next week....be interesting to hear what gets played there.
  9. Would love to see going out again.....i remember having the hots for a girl in braces on it....funny things you remember.
  10. Some channel should show the Out On The Floor play from 79/80...or was it later..loads of Grapevine music (btw found my copy Pete). My memory going back now but wasn't there a geordie tv series called Going Out that had a character that was into northern..this was 80-81.
  11. What programme was it? Ive got the footage filmed at he Dance Chase Clapham with Keb...i think from memory it was a Sunday morning show called Network seven...it must have propelled Jimmy Soul Clark Sweet Darlin sales up as i went and bought one straight away. That footage isn't on youtube either
  12. Was in Brighton a few weeks ago and theres one of those seventies pvc lp boxes with the 2 staples each side so i thought..........so i pick it up and a load of 78s come dropping out....oh dear 7 cracked 78s..........but there was a load of music library 78s behind them all on vinyl Chappell etc ....i felt so bad i bought the lot at £2 a pop.
  13. Remembered the other bit of tv...Hearsay on channel 4 with Shaun Gibbons,Searling,John Vincent and Levine ..Gary Crowley narrates and its footage from Morecambe. Some good footage of dancers and The Champion/You Want To Change Me/ Remember The Feeling all get aired.I'm sure I have it on video.
  14. Magic touch had massive exposure on the TV...who can forget the first few bars and The dj with a tache(Hennigan) drawing off a fag on Whistle Test on the BBC....camera to decks..and were off.I have the versions by Triangle and Bobby Fuller Four but you can't beat Melba's.Here it is...these were times with little tv exposure.I can only remember a piece Dahi Behr did and also the sat early evening music show that did the feature wth Remember The feeling/The Champion....so any music show was being watched by a large audience....pre sky/internet.
  15. I had a boot of this (according to Manship's guide) so bought an original from Shifty.Turned up without a red stamp.I was led to believe that only red stamped demos were pukka.I was put straight that there are demos without the reds stamp.Put it next to my boot and you can tell the difference....so the red stamp on demo only is a red herring.
  16. You can buy this on dvd..........he also does a singalong version of This Land with Jerry Lee as well
  17. Her head was not stoved in (stoving is usually caused by a hammer/similar object and not a glancing blow)....she has received injuries to the right hand side of her face which is conducive to the van being driven with the prostitute in the passenger seat and the left wing mirror hitting her. There are still questions as to why there are no mud marks/dirt on her clothing or signs of tears/rips in clothing as the prostitute describes the area as waste ground and describes the body being dragged/moved.The body is found quite far from the road as can be seen. This is still an open case unles Freddie Patel puts it down to natural causes..but George should be concentrating with the Soul Police on the large bootlegging problem the club has.
  18. The lass was ran over and that...what sort of defectives are they...should have spoke to the local toms and what not...their crap investigation led to a race attack, a murder, crim damage, loaded guns being fired...and that. One good thing was the racists destroying a few boots.....and he gets promoted to CI5....and what not
  19. Looks like Chris Rea would have liked to have gone....he could only see them off though
  20. Its on their first LP...released in the US and Uk....its from their psych/toytown pop period.
  21. Dom Bassett....he was driving haulage trucks for a while and i believe he is into architectural salvage now...admitted to me he played Will Power off a carver.Always liked bit of violence.! and refuses to deejay anywhere.
  22. Ha ha Dave i regularly have drinks with that top Wigan dealer and can confirm what you have said...re the scooterboys...these were the descendants of the mid seventies scooterboys who wanted the most up to date scoot which at the time was a Gp from 69.They stopped production in 71 and the Spanish Jet 200 filled the void until 1976 and Arthur Francis of Watford imported the Indian ones....series 1 s and 2 s were considered for grandads. The Vespa PX was the classic eighties scooterboy scoot.
  23. Jon Lucien was a massive record on the jazz scene in the UK in 87 88 played from The Rashida lp.Nobody wanted the 45 ep on that scene as the lp was king which is how i snagged one.
