  1. Heres a load. Not sure which is the rarest. I have a Holly Maxwell Only When Youre Lonely autographed demo as well.Bought it by mistake....I wanted Thats Not Love.....even Bearsy might like some of these...maybe not!!
  2. Will give the other podcasts a listen.....
  3. Thanks for the link and gave it a good listen....I'm afraid I'm not upfront. The Ralph Jackson was great,Johnny Praye is amazing (I knew that one anyway),the King Cobras was good,Harvey Scales Trackdown not bad,Wally Coco is great (knew that one).I thought the Clay Brown was poor. There are too many mid tempo records for my liking. The beat is missing!!! I can see why the oldies fans won't crossover. It is mostly good music to listen to at home but not my cuppa t when I want to dance all night.Heres a mix I did for youtube. This is more my cuppat. .
  4. Can I have a list of the 10 biggest Upfront current sounds to listen to and I can decide whether I'm oldies or upfront.
  5. I'm assuming that some originally came out on black and were reissued on orange and some had their first release on orange. That Lp with Change Your Ways came out in the UK on a green label LP and that oil strike vinyl....you can bend it in half. Man Without A Woman-Michael and Raymond.Willie Kendricks came out on a 3 track boot a lot later.Must dig that green label lp out....always thought it was a duffer apart from Willie's track.
  6. Love the latin....don't hear much of this sort of stuff though.
  7. Got a copy of this with Pep written on the side.....not even checked if its a boot or original yet.
  8. "No boyo you get off "t" Austria and Berlin with them there opened minded music policy with young uns" me I'm checking the Trade Martin Matrix

Was this ever issued in the UK...I'm sure I heard it came out on Stateside.A mod scene spin from 85 for Dom Bassett
  10. How about separating the real deal from the pretenders and promoters sticking on the flyer ovo only so punters can see instantly that they are attending a venue with integrity whether it be popcorn/northern/latin or whatever and how about a plug for soulsource....we get over 200 punters sometimes and about 5 read soulsource.
  11. Ronnie Walker-Its A Good Feeling thinking it was the Falcons song....I wish!
  12. I think years ago there were very few alternatives and you had to really travel to hear the music and it was uptempo sixties until the Mecca stuff and look at the uproar that caused....now there are about 20 different varieties under the umbrella of northern soul and it's all been diluted.Ebay/internet/films/press/CD's has blown the mystique it once had.You can travel to five different nights and get 5 different variations. I had to start a night up in the south east as in my opinion there wasn't a night that played traditional northern soul and I'm not just talking hammered oldies.A lot put northern soul/rare soul/boogaloo/latin but that's not what I was after.I do think you have to set your stall out and be blatant on the flyers.I knocked up a youtube vide of the sort of stuff i spin....nobody can be under any illusion when they come and start asking for Doug Banks etc.As for a nantional weekly large niter...there would be 700 dj's and 5 dancers and 1 dancer on the floor at a time due to the different varieties.
  13. Love all of this music.........but it has no place on the northern soul scene.Im going to push the boundaries and dig out my Funkapolitan,Animal Nightlife,Working Week,Morrisey Mullen and Light Of The World records out and claim it's the new thing.I'm not sure if some people on here are actually into northern.
  14. I'm Your Pimp-Skullsnaps.....dated badly.. pimps just don't do it anymore I Can't Help Lovin Dat Man-Ila Van.........It's the boobity boops that grate I've Got To Have Your Love-Pierre Hunt....the backing singers sound like they have just finished singing The Generation Game
  15. Shep-Im sitting In.....the Val Doonican of northern Give the dog a bone......female vocal with dog yapping noises. I have blotted the artist out of my head. Lisa Miller-Loneliest Christmas Tree......come on who broke these sounds. Im now getting sick of The Cheater as well....two times at IOW...oh dear.Murdered under the patio...
  16. Issue of Barry for me and a yellow Joe Brown demo....Im running for cover as I have about 20 in that list. It's a British thing. That Bill Kenwright is one of the worst vocal performances I have ever heard...no wonder he got into Theatre. Someone actually played Hang On by Vick Flick...this is a substandard Booker T sort of sound. Am I the only one that doesn't like L Allen Cant We Talk It Over.Reminds me of Arthur Mullard and Thora Hird on a duet or John Shuttleworth on the hammond.
  17. Joe Browns version is just that bit better than Bensons. Can't we name and shame the deejays who broke these sounds...still can't believe Chase Side Shoot Up was played at the Torch.
  18. Tommy Sands- The Statue was pretty bad

    What's the fourth version,The Action,Lonely Crowde A and B and Eddie Hodges
  20. Just Say Goodbye.....Mickey Mouse on helium....Catch Me I'm Falling is great though I Just kept On Dancing....mawkish American Graffiti style tripe The record about burning your toast and drinking Best In Coffee without milk....sick of seeing teddy boy rockabillies dancing to this. Freddie Houston-Soft Walkin.....I don't give a toss about your bloody prom. Magnetics-Lady In Green....luckily it's that rare nobody plays it out Yes Dean Barlow is bad....and I can't believe people have the front to play that Del Davis.Got a great unknown northern reggae record called Black and White by Greyhound..£500 to you.. Ted Cassidy-The Lurch and Mickey Mouse concerto (why it was booted I will never know)
  21. Isle Of Wight for me this weekend. AF GP Blue/silver metalflake Rapido 250 Lambretta.Riding straight down Fri morning from Clapham Common.Bit of a coincidence as there's a northern soul night in The Crown pub.I wonder if Moldie and Barnie are going. That will be 3 scooter riders at the northern soul do. Edit make that 4!! central scooters.bmp
  22. from the top of my head Carstairs-It Really Hurts Me Girl (Inst take) Coming Home-Southwind Symphony Fast Steppin-Forgot the artist (orange label). Is it Flame N King?mmm... Midnight Brew-Melvin Carter Monday Monday-Mort Shuman (UK Immediate thing) Paradox-Wednesday Theme (Ring The Changes (Inst to the RCA track)) Night Of The Wolf Mr Bloe-Sinful (guilty pleasure) Big Boris-Devils Drive The Detours-Hangin On (Im after this.Inst to Pieces Of You CBS) Holidays-Makin Up Time (ive a few copies of this one on a white demo) Rumblers-Soulful Jerk(had a few copies of this on uk King all mint) Grand Piano Company-Esperanto Tony Newman-Let The Good Times Roll Love Sitars-Paint It black (booted from the Raga instrumental lp) Sounds Inc-On The Brink Waitin For The Rain-Inst to Fantastic Johnny C Soft Summer Soul Strings (red columbia) Boss 4-Walkin By B side (from memory moon something!)
  23. Seen a few of these but mostly worn by "the darkside".People who are into heavy metal and rave who are hanging on to the scooter scene and ride modern mopeds. As for Italian mods.....well come on they are only jealous. They were listening to Baccara in the seventies.Scooters and northern will always go hand in hand.
  24. SRT in the UK pressed up vanity pressings for groups as D said just under 100 copies to avoid tax.All sorts of music....cabaret bands/soul and prog rock. They were for the band members and sold/given away at gigs.....try finding the Grannie LP.Lyntone did the same and pressed up for companies/advertising and eventually went into flexi discs.Never usually see US soul advertised as private/vanity pressings but I'm sure loads of stuff was. https://www.7tt77.co.uk/SRT.html
