  1. you cant help but notice that a large proportion of gigs in events, arent being reported on.....in lookbacks and prior to the event...which begs the question....exactly how much interest is being shown in attendance?, we go on about how cluttered the calender is, but despite the casualties new gigs keep starting up in place of the failures.....is it a continuous clutching at straws, a couragous never say die attitude that proves to be more a constant misjudgement of the marketplace. i keep perusing in particular events in the west midlands where the line up of djs isnt even referenced other than the claim of a "top night"......so an empty room is being played to then?. i say to the silent ones on here....stand up and be counted...tell us all about your gig so we get a better understanding of whats on offer or dont bother confusing the issue.
  2. if i remember correct, man responsible for the cd and a host of others, was dave brown, a philadelphian dj...i would imagine he;s not best pleased about this...asuming he already knows, as he put a lot of work into getting these tracks legitimately licensed, the one in particular here would be long since deleted, never reissued and the limited run on the 7" would also apply, hence the price it fetches now ( and its being successfully played again ) this aside, its a great tune and one of the best discoveries of the first decade of the millenium.
  3. jj barnes - baby please come back home - im the one who really loves you eddie floyd thats all - bring it on home to me steve mancha - easy living
  4. pete, id only ever come across this record once before, in the early 80's when pep had all his stock in the cellar of the old coop shop opposite the vic. i used to go in there on saturdays and trawl the cellar ( just like being in the states..yes? ) found one of these, august moon and even a roger hatcher!...needless to say i didnt buy any of them...more fool me. anyway, i presume this is the rarest incarnation of a backing track with different lyrics to stanley mitchell or the new holidays. dont get me wrong, i was gobsmacked at the asking price but then today im taken aback by the "dropdown bargain"....so this is another typical case of valuations being all over the place...i would definitely have snapped this up.....if id stayed online 10 minutes longer at lunchtime but there you go!
  5. gutted is not the word mate, totally desolate more like and i have to inform our friend that he's let it go for peanuts......on account of the fact, this was recently on rarenorthernsoul.com for OVER £200+ ......DOH!!!
  6. its a buyers marketplace but what you're looking for is very much dependant on availability & price as even a lot of the boots of the 70's command decent prices. if your finances are limited you can turn to the legit releases that seem to be appearing every week on labels such as out-a-sight, the sound quality is very good. there are a host of great dealers who post on here, always offering good rates in the main and if you check out sales the turnover is mindboggling. i watch it like everybody else on here, like dangling rod & line in the water, waiting to catch a much wanted fish...you can wait for ages even for a cheapie, thats how frustrating it gets sometimes but it is worth it.
  7. this looks a neat little documentary, if my pc would stop lapsing ( the film keeps stop/starting...signal problem? ) anyway, anything about detroit is goosebump material even if the visual effect of decay is dispiriting...the fact is we know it had its heyday and what a glorious period that was, so much so that you can easily visualize what it DID look like in its pomp...thankfully as well, we still have archive footage...fact is we can only dream of what it must have been like for our icons who actually did live the dream...thank god for berry gordy, motown and the motown wannabees that gave us northern soul.
  8. great and concise article about cecil in yesterday's gaurdian ( 8-2-13 ), a fundamental cog in the womack wheel of success.
  9. think we ARE talking about the b-side of course pete, agree the bassline intro is goosebumps and the understated horns give it that classy, jazzy influence, the lead vocal almost flatlines but it all adds up to a tremendous flip to an out and out stormer inherant to the first decade of northern soul...couldnt wish to buy a more desireable disc and i think that says it for many....very rarely turns up though and i have to admit, i turned away the chance at tim's last year, basically because i just didnt have the funds.
  10. wonder how many people have naughty carvers of it?
  11. well blow me down bill, yer right!...apologies and slap my wrists, t'will be twice as good as originally thought then
  12. time to do another set at lowton phil, will bite kev's ear...tremendous playlist and for me.......diamonds & pearls a f*ck-off brilliant tune!
  13. i dont believe we should view the future in such a pessimistic manner, i disagree that youth developement will be disproportionate to our own era, already we see kids who are disillusioned with the neverending run-of-the-mill that is todays pop market...isnt this why alternative cultures have always developed & flourished...the rebellion against 50's tin pan alley was rock & roll and no-one tires of that after successive generations...weve had the ascendancy of soul music for the best part of 50 years, its attained global acceptance, its sensible music but most importantly its inspired people to dance in an individualistic way, non conformist and the generations that originally adorned that concept include us, it inspired many of us to seek out these records that grabbed our attention. of course we're all getting older but the adage " nothing lasts forever" really dosn't apply to this scene,...because the variant of content has allowed the scene to re-invent itself successfuly and has, in the process drawn a wider swathe of people to the scene...and not just young kids....what about the 30/40 somethings who got into the scene in the last 10/12 years?, they haven't visibly wilted and disappeared after the initial thrill. there will ALWAYS be a market for vinyl...you've said it yourselves so many times...there's nothing like the sound of a diamond stylus slipping into the groove of a shiney 7" black plastic thingy, yes, its great cutting cds, especially if you want to preserve you precious vinyl artifacts for posterity, but the computer formulated ethos was never meant to replace the shiver of expectation that greets the listener or dancer when the turntable springs into action...in the car fine, great to sing along to at drivetime. i like to have a session with some choonz after a particularly stressful day trying to DELIVER PARCELS TO PEOPLE WHO AREN'T IN ( SELFISH BARSTEWARDS! ). and the mantra as always should be: dont buy records just to look at them.
  14. spellbinding tune, think richard still has his copy. has it not already featured in a thread here where the precise number and owners were discussed?,...

  20. correctomundo, young harry!....think it would get a response today mate?
  21. to this day, richard is just THE consumate professional with the mic, information is neither negligable nor long winded..the response from the dancers is adulent and automatic such is the man's indelible charisma....its hard to get over the fact that he still has the enthusiasm and verve at gone 60
  22. pete, is the second track in harley hatcher by any chance?
  23. i have a copy of r.dean taylor's ghost in my house on canadian motown ( as opposed to other releases that turned up on different labels ). it was obviously timed to coincide with its u.k. issue in 74 however, the b-side, lets go somewhere is different in that it dosnt have the spoken intro...
  24. its a controversial tune i suppose, but people have been chasing it now for about 6 or 7 years and ive noticed it turning up on playlists again, so perhaps people have got over the initial apprehension of chancing their arm with a blue eyed soul-a-like but its got that driving dynamic philadelphian production that can be only associated with one icon....the legendary thom bell,...how can anyone deny him respect?. anyway, good luck hunting this down...it should set you back at least 3 figures but imho, worth it.
