  1. Personally dont think pigment matters. If its Northern its Northern. If you think about the really popular oldies that have stood the test of time they tend to appeal to more mainstream music lovers as well. Epitome of Sound I think were white BUT it was HUGE, and my rock loving 16 year old and Pop loving partner at 52 appreciate it. I find that popular tunes like Mel Britt,Epitome,Yvonne Baker,Paul Anka, Ruby Andrews et al also do the trick. They have simple reptitive lyrics, easy to like ( which is why we danced to them way back in the 70,s) BUT more hard core stompers like Twans, Cecil Washington etc dont switch on the light at all. Yet give Lesley the Isleys My love from the LP and we are in business.
  2. Feature on Sky News about a young man called Jimmy Higham who recorded Is,nt she lovely. Never performed or recorded before. Anyhow this young man died last Christmas of cancer. His friends have posted the tune up on Itunes. It is currently No 11 in the Itunes chart. The proceeds go to a bursary for a good school in his name. The interview with 2 of his friends stated he was a good Northern lad who loved soul music. He also was pictured wearing a Northern Soul T shirt. Only young so sad. The tune is very simple just him, his mate and a guitar. Worth a listen and if you are feeling generous a download as well. Good luck.
  3. Rod I had a tape from WC.Richard introduced it something like.... "Gary Rushbrooke says this is a Detriot record, it is in fact from N Carolina.Still a great record though" Maybe he knew something back then?
  4. Nicely put Julian. Dont often play mine out as not many know about the orig orange issue so you end up defending yourself.
  5. Ha thats it. My uncle jack asked me to put a bet on a horse called Steel Pulse, but dont tell auntie una. Never having been in a bookies at the time before that day I was strangely nervous. But I did buy that LP that day. Why I remember the horse I have no idea. Cant remember most things at the best of times.
  6. Remember buying the Reggae Chartbusters with Return to Django, Red Red Wine etc. First ever vinyl I bought. Great tale Pete
  7. Have a similar thing here re sons not into music. 16 year old plays electric guitar and likes Nickelback, Linkinpark. No likey northern. Eldest is 24 strolls in an announced Frank Wilson had died, so I said who is FW then he started singing DILY. Still me and his mum did meet at WC in 76. Really into rave and dance scene to be fair. Still me and our Karen (sis) went to WC and Sean (bro) went to Stafford,Buzzard and 100 club as he is younger. Matter of interest mum wants Deon Jackson CD for xmas.
  8. Richard that is my thinking. Makes sense.
  9. You may want to talk to John Manship here I know he has unearthed a host of UK stuff this year stored in the attic of a pub.
  10. Thanks Pete bloody u/s me. Ha ha.
  11. As I said when 16 year old is feeling compliant I will get him to work the magic with my box brownie. Remember struggling couple of years ago took piccies, inserted card into PC could I work out how to get the image from comp onto ebay. He walked in click, click, click and there we were. FFS! Can I remember? More chance of a lottery win.
  12. A few grapevines in sales.
  13. Formations on Raresoulman just now.
  14. Good luck hope my figures are wrong. Oops if they are.
  15. I think around £125 to £150. As a matter of interest I have an Orange issue BUT it is not the Atco 72 repress. Credits Wylie rather than Wylia like the repress, and it has the same layout as the Green issue. Got the provenance with it when I bought it about 20 years or so. Will try to get my son to post it on here as I am crap at that technology.
  16. Thank you will get Sean my brother to check.
  17. The Events lyrics contained a line Darling believe me. If that helps?
  18. Afternoon all, my brother is here today and he is after info on two tunes if anyone can help please? !) Played at 100 club around 88/89 by Ady. C/U as Teardrops Here comes loneliness. Lyrics included Teardrops come tumbling down 2) C/U as The Events by 100 Club DJ. Cant get the lyrics just now. Played around the same time. Cant get a title just now. Anyone? Thanks Steve
  19. You need to know that the RED recorded delivery system is not treated in anyway special. Brother in law works for PO and these just get put with ordinary post. The blue/silver Special delivery SHOULD go from person to person and signed at the door by the addressee. Here they have a littlle computer with a stylus to sign in the box on screen. I send my regular business for work using this method. Also any record dealings I sell. Costs though!
  20. Thank you.Now managed to find ALL Soul Train listings. Thanks again. Steve
  21. Hate to be the bearer of bad news but Stoned Love was played at Wigan as an oldie by Russ and Dave Evison. Remember it clearly. Tended to empty the floor. Maybe played 3/4 times by DE.He tried to revitalise it but the dancers disagreed. He also played The Letter and other things that MAY have been played before BUT had lost their appeal by then. Oh and dont forget Sweet Talking Guy INST by Russ.
