The Centuries
The flip is a different tune called 4th Dimension and is a great surf tune. It has all the sound effects on the intro. The Shoestring 45 is an unrelated vocal called that Candy Andy that has an instrumental on the B side called "Shoop de Hooop Twine. This is exactly the same recording as Jack 23. I'm not aware of a version of Jack 23 with any sound effects on, but - as I stated - I have heard "4th Dimension" played and announced as Jack 23. Probably one of the many mislabeled copies.

The Centuries
That sounds like an accurate description of the intro to the flip side "4th Dimension" that I referred to above. A piece of trivia that I think I've mentioned before is that exactly the same noise is used on one of the Gerry Anderson 'Century 21' EPs: "The Daleks". My guess is that it's from a sound effects library type LP or tape from the 60s.

Flip used to get played out too. Sometimes by mistake as loads of copies were labeled the wrong way round. "4th Dimension" is an insane piece of surf music that I'd never part with.

Harlem Jonns Reshuffle
I should be embarrassed to admit this, but I found a copy of their version of "Let Love Come Between Us" on Oldham market as a youth and it was a few years before I heard the James and Bobby 45 and realised that the Harlem John's Reshuffle Version was a cover Seems that lead Singer Stuart Widdall is still performing. Pub Juke Boxes
I've just bought one of these It's an NSM HIT 120 circa late 70s/early 80s. The people I got it from had rescued it from the United Bus Workers Social Club here in Scarborough, so it has provenance, as they say.

Fever
This version really does it for me. Can imagine it will probably split opinion amongst Sourcers though

Collecting British...why Bother?
So you were pretty violent and so mixed up that you that thought that hippies and bikers represented "authority" - Oh hang on you also said "weird" Ok, so you were willing to give a kicking to anyone whose appearance or manners you didn't agree with and that intolerance is is now used to justify making threats to someone who has different views on collecting records. That's collecting records. Wow. People collect different stuff and some of their views on what constitutes a scene and its precursors differs. No need to resort to fisticuffs old man.

Collecting British...why Bother?
Well yeah but, no but. It's well documented that lots of UK Atlantic stuff is dubbed from disc and sounds pretty shoddy compared to the US counterparts. Same with other labes I guess: I recently picked up a UK Stateside demo of the Isley Brorthers "Love The One You're With" (great version by the way!) . Sounds very poor when played next to the T-Neck US issue. As for the issue around which labels have most detail - how about running times on UK issues? Not that I'm taking sides however - I collect US, UK, euro and any other exotic foreign releases. Variations just make it more interesting for me

These days I don't waste the venom on people asking innocent questions. I save the toxic barbs for grizzled old armour plated hoons like yerself, Jock. And you should have stayed here and gone to see Marlena Shaw in Manchester - she was flippin great!

Mind you - that Jack Jones record is a shocker innit?

Hey - he only asked a simple question. No need to crucify the guy. In fact whenever I hear people say stuff like "you shouldn't be on this site" I always wonder what horrible secrets they have lurking in back of their record boxes

Crowed eh? Is that the noise they made when you played it Actually I've got a copy of this on Turkish Capitol which looks kinda cool. I just like those sort of cheesy swinging pop songs though and wouldn't dream of playing at a soul night. Always had a soft spot for We're Gonna Change The World, though. Great pop song

Rip Charlie Gillett
Just heard on the radio that broadcaster and writer Charlie Gillett has died. 'Making Tracks - The History of Atlantic Records' from 1975 was one of the first books I ever read that gave me some background info into many fabulous soul and R&b recordings and the guys behind the label. Always interesting to listen to when he made radio programmes too. Actually I just looked at Making Tracks last night and thought 'must read that again...'. If I believed in spooky stuff I'd say it was significant. But I don't so it was just coincidence. But sort of nice. RIP Charlie
