  1. Certainly remember buying it as a new import Kev, probably from Graham Warr's place in the Oasis, Brum - but that'd be before your time, you young sprog!
  2. Got a feeling those Polydor copies are actually Irish issues...
  3. Makes sense to me Tone...
  4. Can some kind person tell me the difference between original and boot? What's in the runout of the original? Cheers m'dears... Hippo.
  5. Me argue? Naah...just have another slurp of me pint and, as you say, refine the selections!
  6. Love that story Dave! To be honest, I've occasionally succumbed to the "just one more tune" syndrome - maybe if the track I've played hasn't gone down quite as well as expected, I'll do one just to make sure I leave the incoming DJ with a full floor (it's DJ etiquette, innit?). Or maybe I'm just enjoying myself too much...but it's the spirit in which it's done, basically don't take the p**s!
  7. ...followed by Pasty and the Emblems, perhaps?
  8. ....as long as you wait for it to "Cool Off"....
  9. Edie Walker "Good guys" (old Patience Valentine c/up)? ...and I'm envious! My only one was in Summer 1973, in a local junk shop we'd used for years, I found Earl Grant "Hide nor hair" US Decca. This was when it was a big tune, and we all KNEW that it was going to be pressed the following week - which of course turned out to be untrue!

Sure we had a discussion on this years back, the boot demo has the labels reversed, the labels have a rough paper feel to them as opposed to the smooth originals, and the runout has "Best 1025" scratched in.

Revisionist! I'll have you know, sir, that the underground resistance movement had been in place here in Gloucestershire for some years, in truth we sent many of our senior figures north to help with the struggle!
  12. Name rings a vague bell, I just seem to remember the face from various venues...
  13. That's Gilly on the right, I know the face of theguy in the middle well and will kick myself when someone comes up with the name!
  14. That news would certainly make me think twice David! Keep at it! All the best Jerry
  15. ...and to confuse matters even further, around the same time the Wonderettes "I feel strange" was booted (IIRC) on Ruby - on which it DID come out as a local issue!
  16. Yeah, and I ended up with your US demo Steve!
  17. Jimmy Conwell at Fleetwood, Edwin at several venues, Sam and Dave at the Torch, Anita Baker at Wembley with the excellent Perri as support...and of course Geno in 1967!
  18. Sure it was a Monday, might be wrong though, it was Mac, Joner, Paul O'B and myself , sure that now radio boss "Muff" Murfin was somehow involved as we were all envious of the Doris Troy UK Parkway issue he swore he'd never part with!...and he used to transport his mobile kit in a horsebox! Haven't seen Clive Jones for some years, however as we know they all resurface after a while...
  19. Ikey Drew....well, there's another hundred or so stories eh Steve!?
  20. So I'm partly to blame then... ...how the heck did I manage to get to work every morning, what with Yate on Saturday, local do Sunday night and Worcester on a Monday! Mind you, there were variations, at one time it was the Dive Bar in Worcs on Sunday night, chips and curry sauce on the way back to Cheltenham and a few hours of "proper" sleep! And I'd willingly do it all again....
  21. Mine too, mind you I've had it since the dawn of creation! I've always thought it was original as it came with a drill hole and the scratched writing seemed identical to that on many Chess singles, Still a top tune!
  22. Is it definite that this is the Precisions...just that the original 10" Sidra acetate passed through Chez Hippo on its way to Adey, and it was a case of guessing what was by who! And yes, I must admit to CDR'ing it - on condition that I never played them while out!
  23. The silver label was actually Phil Spector International, much later than early '70's, more like 80's, and that IIRC was the first UK release - in stereo as well!
  24. Last time I saw Froggy must have been about 86, he turned up at a Northern night at the Bristol Hotel in Gloster, looked a mess and of course was wearing his afghan coat, we sat him down and bought him a drink or two and for a short while the old Froggy resurfaced. So sad... I saw Docker a few years back at a reunion night for the Blue Moon Club in Cheltenham (where Froggy was the top kiddie in '66) so I'm pleased to know that the rumours of his death weren't true.
