Uk Issues
Interesting as Im having a ding dong with a seller on Ebay about listings written to decive! The showstoppers (aint nothing but a house party) on Inferno has an unreleased b-side which is actually very good. Unreleased things legitimately released under licensed are ok to play out. Sorry Pete - dont agree about the handbags situation. If I went to one of those nights offering to DJ but Ive only got Cds or a laptop Id get told @ Sorry mate we only play vinyl here which is the same argument principle as playing originals only! You cant have all your cake and eat it! WE were not very good last saturday but Wolves were worse!

Biggest Price Drop?
Ive done abit of digging on this record (Frederick Hymes) in the past. Thier are questions of aucthenticity and has been noted on other threads. I wish I had an old email address of mine because then I would be able to produce the evidence. In a nutshell I asked a dealer in the US who I had seen selling copies if he had one left- he said yes. I asked him a couple of questions about it (Knowing I had Soul sams original copy in my hand that he had paid £800 for off John Manship years earlier). When I queried the auhetnticy of the record I got a very sharp response that indicated that the copies he was selling had been pressed up recently at that time.. So Then I said to him - Do you not think its wrong passing these off as original presses or something like that! This was his answer " WIse up Steve - This is business" (but no denial) This statement confirmed to me that they were infact represses as he said he knew the label owner very well. Read into it what you will but to me the orig is heavy vinyl and the print definition is dark and clear. If you look through an eyeglass at the represses the print is much lighter and looks like it has been photocopied - The vinyl when you hold to alight you can see through. You cant see through the original. ATb Steve

Rare Records and Raucous Nights: Investigating Northern Soul -Salford 04 Nov
Hi Rod - I do 2 presentations a year at Fettes - Its good fun! The film Centurion is actually very poor in the sense they did not recreate the weaponary correctly. I offered advice as I am Centurion of the 9th legion Hispana here in Scotland which is what the film is supposed to be based on its exploits with a Romantic twist in it. They declined. One of our guys (Legionaries) went for an audition as an extra only to be told he was too old and not tall enough.- They wanted 5ft 10inches and under 30- this again is not represntative of what the ninth legion was about as many were veterans and were on average 5ft 6ins tall inRoman times - we know this from Tacitus a well know writer of the day and also tombstones. The next film "Eagle of the ninth" is based on the Rosemary Sutcliffe book which is mainly fiction. Soulgirl - Like all empires they stretch themselves too far with too little resources and retreat back to the nucleus - Rome. Many Roman inventions are still used today Example The Police battle shield is an oblong which curls at the ends to protect the body. Central heating is another - there are absolutely loads of them. Cheers for the interest -My Optio (2nd in Command) will be joing me there this year. This weekend we are at the Wickerman festival (executing slaves) and giving prayers to Mithras for the end of season campaign. (Google : Archeolink) to see whats happening. ATB Steve

Rare Records and Raucous Nights: Investigating Northern Soul -Salford 04 Nov
Thats my point Dave - & No Soulgirl I am not trying to belittle the University and I dont understand why you have cut and paste the info to Chalky as to why I could not attend - Thought it might be of interest to him seeing as he asked me the question. Soulgirl -Salford university stands on the Adelphi which in terms of Social Anthropology is the right next to the river Irwell and this area was depicted in the very famous british film called "Hobsons choice" This became a universal saying in terms of what choices human beings had - In other words "Like it or Lump it" If you are interested in the Licensing aspect then good on you and hopefully Ady will give a good insight into it - but in my view it doesnt have much to do with Social anthropology and Northern soul - I think its in the wrong circle of topics thats all. I think Ady could set up a seminar on that topic on its own and still get a very good response and given his experience it would be good to hear what he thinks the differences are now as opposed to say the 1970s. And if you think that because I live in Aberdeen I really dont have much knowldge of Salford university - I was Born in Salford and was brought up there in my early years. - I left the aea foir good when I was 21. LOL Steve
