  1. Original French release on BYG with picture sleeve. Sleeve should be down graded to VG due to a small pinball pen mark on top right and a "sticker" mark on top left corner of the front sleeve and overall residual stocking wear. Where the vinyl balance the Ex to an almost EX+. So one of the better filler or awaiting a Mint sleeve but those rough printed on cardboard (sleeve is not paper soft but board hard !) never come clean even fresh out of the print... 2. Bought as NOS when a "batch" popped-up some 20 years ago and play by meeself only and still holding it's full NOS gloss. Fantastic record IMHO and way overlooked no matter what. That's how good intrinsically it really is. California juice Lo-Fi (their regular Fi then) on vinyl; music to dance, dream and sing along to... 3. Use to favor Gene Woodbury "hitting & slam" version but with time appreciate Bernie Williams "musicality" more and more. Have none but would keep both if I had them. So I'll skip my vote here.
  4. It is written like so in all discographies I've seen indeed. Only those typical typo font on the Paree release from a certain Chicago pressing plant start to appear to my knowledge only on post 1968 known releases unless proven wrong. Like here below where typo and/or colors matches ! Then the variation of the 3 different releases on the Peaches release clearly show the chronology of those releases and the mysterious name change last. The rest are hints like with the sessions, people's names credited on the releases, the similarity of backing track with the Ringleaders from mid to late 1966... Not implying I am confidently right on my recent theory. No, only wanting to know from facts or reliable testimonies the story behind that fantastic string of 4 forty-fives in a row surrounded by mystery...
  5. Aouch ! That is a noisy nosy annoying singer. Almost made year bleed....
  6. Am not smoking the carpet here (maybe only a Belgian/French expression meaning "deluding")... but I love to understand how to put together the stuffs that I have at heart. So I do not want to put up a smokescreen here on odd theories. It is often presented that the Paree 45 to be their debut single. Could be... The other day home playing my copy to a friend of 'I want to be free', he jumped right away saying but that is the same backing track to the Ringleaders 'baby what happened to our love' and I went ****sheet**** that is so true and even I never made the connection... Not the same backing track per say, but the backing track uses the same construction and gimmicks. So very likely recorded at the same times or sessions. That would indeed place it around mid to late 1966 (Ringleaders is that date) and so indeed before their following 2 singles on One-Derful. Mind you that there are 3 variations of label for the Peaches release. 2 of which are credited to the Aspirations and all 3 are from the same pressing plant. But with the label name once on the right and once on the left for the Aspirations ones. And then the one credited to the Admirations with the name label Peaches again on the left. The oddity for the Peaches issues is that the 2 credited to the Aspirations uses all the same font on both sides. Where for the Admirations not. The font used to write "THE ADMIRATIONS" is of another type than the rest of the credits on the 'I want to be free' side which uses the same font as the Aspirations labels for the rest. And very odd for the Admirations on the 'you left me' side, they used the same font for the credits as for the name 'the Admirations'... So likely they were all pressed in small numbers judging by the rarity of the 45 floating around. Especially the Aspirations credited ones. Still the 45 enjoyed 3 consecutive runs and all 3 with un-understandable explanation if any as to why I have yet to find to this day. Likely they lost the stamp of the 'You Left Me' side for the third and likely last run of the Admirations on Peaches. And used what ever font they had not to waste precious time. As if it was a "rush release" of some sort. Then why the name change from the Aspirations to the Admirations ? Was it not actually the Aspirations on Peaches with the label name on the right their very first 45 ? Then the second issue with 'Peaches' on the left of the label. Then it could be after their first ride with success at One-Derful that they decided to re-issue the single this time credited to the Admirations using part of the original label stamp part not... The Paree single would then come last in line !? Well the font used for the Paree single is more typical of the late 6T's post 1968 Chicago label to my eyes and knowledge. Makes sense to me...

  10. If the DJ pitched this one up I could imagine it sounding like 'just because' and the Billy Stewart type-O-singing is already there as:
  11. Alright, it makes more sense with the bad after taste of Gene Redd toward Berry Gordy that fired him back in 1964 with the shut down of the NY Jobette office. Tanks for that precise insight that allows to understand and likely explain a lot about and around that "mysterious" record. But then why cheat on 'goose pimple'/'touch me, kiss me, hold me' title in order to twist Jobette copyrights on this very song and on the following release go for a Jobette title ? A thrill for the kill kind of game maybe ? Or/and Gene Redd claim Myto MUSIC on "his" original composition ? Anyway, if we understand it like that, Berry Gordy also had his aftermath revenge the following year since the Inspirations reworked version titled 'touch me, kiss me, hold me' had it's share of success. While 'goose pimples' didn't score much judging by the numbers of copies floating about...
  12. I voted for but it's all the same at that stage. It is indeed not "clean". That is why I much prefer this version to the Tempos's cut actually. That "bad" BIG/DEEP VOICE negroid slam is just surprisingly fantastic the first time you hear it. Puts a grim smile on my face while laughing inside. Since that first time I can't stop listening to it ! Had to have a copy. And it's been 25 years now... Still works the same on me. OK, I love the "corky" bits and in the Fidels 'I'm giving you notice' on Doré the female break in the middle comes in after the guy's list of argument to her bullshit and she still comes in like a Princess; are you going believe what I tell ya or are you going to believe what you see ? And he goes in despair Aaaaaah... Unworthy of any more beans spilling: NOTICE baby ! I'm gonna find another girl. Almost but not quite macho. Tastik

  14. OK, I'll take the inclination to "believe", YES you heard me "I AM A BELIEVER" for the moment at least, that Silky is black. If ever someone could come across another picture of Silky please report on here. We will be forever worthy of On the portrait side of things, I drew too. I know what it is to make people's portrait. Being a good drawer is not all. It also requires humility, as not to see ourselves in those we love and portrait them as we perceive ourselves or, if not love, to turn it into a caricature of something else that still belongs to the pencil holder somehow.
  15. I'm listening to music, not to a tune per say. I love my smoothies, lowies tempos and whisperies vocals sound as well, but only because a "smoother" version of a said tune exist, doesn't mean I'll be automatically inclined to it. In this case, I must say that I was not impressed to say the least when I first heard Sydney Barnes 'I heard on the other side'. I was even disappointed expecting too much since I knew Jerry Cook's version first and was expecting a rougher banger cut... to hear a faint munchy backing track and a Sydney mumbling something where I couldn't recognize the tune first to a point but only by the lyrics.
  16. In the same "understanding" of it; the rarity factor, which was/is inherent of the rare soul scene, comes into the ear "education"and flavor... And I understand those who might not like the Oomph ! of the Jerry Cook which would make the Sidney Barnes bare-able even if not great.
  17. I think it makes a lot of sense; the 3 Stephanye 45's date from early 1966 (February and May) prior to Berry Gordy hands on Wingate records (with Golden World and Stephanye). All those 3 Stephanye singles feature the same credits. Only Roy Handy's 'baby that's a groove' side was release as a Jobette tune co-composed by Holland Dozier and George Clinton... as an old venture trade mark gesture of some sort... So likely when the Inspirations re-released it, somewhere after in 1966, Jobette owned the song and re-realeased it to make it a HIT under Shelby Singleton "pop" ensemble direction !
  18. Close to but no match to me. That is why the drawing is not conclusive. Plus this drawing is made from a picture. So if the same guy as from the picture, either the drawer intentionally "twist" the picture or he wasn't a good portraitist. The similarities maybe there (haircut, wide front head, linear eyebrows, medium large nose and lips) but the "person" is not in my eyes. If shown wrong, I'll be more than happy to finally have seen Silky, the black dude and admit to my misjudgment !
  19. Thanks for the input. But still it is no proof. Only on this thread one of the two showed pictures was ruled out. The first one with the 2 Wheelsville labels is still questionable as it's not established one way or the other as to who it is for sure. The wonderful advert for the Dearborn 45 is a drawing not stating that Silky resemble the character. Many "fake" figures" are used to "embellish" a product... The "somebody told me or showed me" is left to the memories that are what they are; only memories. And willingly or not just adding to the grapevine, rumors or urban legends.
  20. To be honest Robb, I don't even recognize Silky's voice on this unreleased take of 'lucky to be loved by you'. I couldn't even guess to put a name on that voice. Where on his 6 released sides even though he changed of shirt, hat and socks his voice timber betrays him. Both his D-Town 45 and Wheelsville sides are so "black" on everything about them, that it's only when you allow to question Silky's "pedigree" and re-listen to them another way, leaving room to the possibility that... Yeah... Maybe... Likely... Right ! Where for his Dearborn 45, it always made me believe that this guy there was white. Or could that be the "black" guy we knew from the D-Town and Wheelsville 45's wanted to go break bigger and reach the "pop" market to sound "white" ? Goes without saying nothing wrong with it one way or the other. For me his 3 singles are of cult statues and I'd love to unveil some of the mysteries around the man like the OP 'Soul Slider'. We'd love to know it all but a little slice of that guy's who's and whereabouts would be a blessing already.
  21. I did a lot of finally dreaded G**gl search a while ago and only found stories about the white guy hanging with his mates; JJ Barnes, Cody Black, Steve Mancha & Co. in the studios and never a picture was shown. Even when requested it was a point blank. Even the first picture taken from the forum Soulful Detroit is no match for the drawing from the advert.
  22. Sorry but there's no match and these are all pictures of Isaac Kari at different decades of it's life showing the resemblance far from the drawing anyway...
  23. On the right of Rufus is a record producer and businessman as record shop chain owner called Isaac Kari !
