I don't get it, most testimony I read a while ago from that Detroit gang talked about a white guy and he certainly sounds like one. No pictures popped-up to this day as far as I know. And I'd love to see one since I own and love all his records from his long discography...

Checked ! Noticed ! Got the mission 5 out of 5. Sir, yes Sir ! LOL. Based in Belgium, I never had the chance to travel so much. Young and not rich, my crate digging was rather limited and so not everything could be so evident as to be heard like in clubs or from tape swapping. There was no northern scene in this country and only few elder mods would provide a "source" but that was "limited" for knowledge in soul. Still thankful to them for the "initiation"into that ! ;) I knew "touch me, kiss me hold me" for a long time and kinda (only) like it. I loved the song and composition but like for many Shelby Singleton productions, the "pop" treatment always came in the way between the record and my ears. I first discovered the 'goose pimple' and bought it instantly at a record fair some 25 years ago here in Brussels from the box of a Pop-Corn ex-collectionner amongst 100 other singles. All was almost mint and costed $3 a piece... Happy days ! Instantly I sold my Inspirations copy and my curiosity around the who's, where's and why's between those two records arose my curiosity since, like you, I just love 'goose pimple' and couldn't understand the reasons with so many protagonist involved on both records for the title and publishers to change. One can develop different speculative theories on the matter but I'm after facts. Any lead is welcome...

Anyone know the story behind this ? Same song, different titles one, different publishers Myto and one Jobette and 2 composers are involved on both and one not... But J. Crosby reappears on the credit for the flip of Shirley J. Scott 'lonely girl'...

Love that SirShambling site owned by a gentleman. Very resourceful comprehensive informations... I didn't even know Jerry Cook had another 45 still backed-up by Mr. Arthur Wright. Even if the titles don't make the Troyxx single so appealing. Still interesting to know the team lasted a wee longer. I hear similarities in the "phrasing" way of singing but as to the voice... the tone is not the same even if one can alter that just like that. Who is actually that chap on the Doré label under those names variation; Kennard Gardner, Kenny Garner, Kynnard, Kenard ? Could it be our Jerry Cook Northern Soul Hero under a pseudo ?

Jerry Cook by a mile at first, second and last hear. This is a personal point of view following, but heart and soul do have their reasons. Masons will try everything to make you believe the heart have it's reasons that the conscience can't explain but I'm not that at all. Sidney Barnes kinda like "moans" the tune which is only faintly recognizable as it is "melted" in a "wall" kinda sound musical steady beat accompany. Sidney on top sings 'I hurt...' but sounds just like he would say 'I'm bored...' ...at least that's how he sounds to these ears of mine. Neither Sidney's voice nor the musical backing track manage to take me at any point really. Only the female backing vocals I find to be haunting. But that alone don't make a tune in my book. On the collector side of things, I totally understand the excitement of such a pedigree record to own though. Sidney's cut sounds almost like a demo cut/version to me as it doesn't fit right this most peculiar outstanding tense composition. Even his contemporary 'you'll always be in style' is all 'edge & loud' to deliver his composition in full bloom ! Where with Jerry Cook's cut the musical approach really kicks in. Memorable intro with a frantic bass attack, piano steps, drum entry and distant cavalry horns charging right at you. The odd, but IMO fantastic, vocal inclinations of Jerry Cook telling his tale with clarity not giving up into despair, is W.O.R.K.I.N.G. bA-beEe ! Another wonderful Arthur Wright arrangement job... I rest my case !

Me too, I expect something not to be happy about the rarity of this sole stocker from MGM. From the mid sixties, Verve and MGM 45's that didn't sell as expected all and always ended in the sales stalls with a drill hole. Where this one didn't suffer the drill cut fate if ever it didn't sell. Likely it never made it to the stores. As the other stocker pressed. And as you suggested likely got withdrawn and god knows what happened to them after...

I have my promo copy of Duke 352 on the "new design" orange (pink promo) label of 'how does a cheating woman feels" flipped with 'yield not to temptation' like many of us. But Duke 336 flipped with 'don't cry no more' on the older yellow and purple label is indeed rare ! But not that rare as to be offered on a Northern Soul auction IMHO which it is not. Bluesy, Souly and Jazzy maybe. The story/controversy behind it on the other hand makes it rather smoky-hot...

To read about "Northern Soul" (underground phenomenon as in maybe) or other complex human made "behavior" in half or less depth doesn't do much for me. Like for all "non offensive" human (teenager or not) organized manifestation, trying to find "justification" in the "wider" world is rather meaningless I find. Well written article... I still hope those "reporters" are getting paid to do that also. Must admit that I only read it diagonally... Got unhooked that fast. Sorry.

Well "average"maybe, like not a revolution in music. Rather mechanical, basic and straight forward funky thang. I agree. But it's clean, good and has a real drive. I bought mine a while ago. Indeed I don't think to put it on my turntable home too often. Still it sits well in my Kent 45's collection. A bit of a mindless left field stuff. I played it out occasionally as a "filler" in the prime times when not many in the room pay attention to the tunes and it does it's job. Plus the lyric of a malicious "girlfriend partner" in need is maybe not the words everyone wants to hear. All this makes it somehow the "not politically correct" romantic classic never to be. Unless the "Euro" northern scene takes it to another level... unlikely IMHO !

Yep, rather painful as a seller to edit a new entry every time you are trying to sell a record on Discogs with another reference not yet into their index. And once you understand that many sellers just don't bother to put in a new entry (slow and long process) and you're a customer and realize that, you get suspicious as to what exact release the seller really has ! I mean it's not so bad but it's really not that good either. I hate to say but I find from both the seller's as the customer's side that the the eVilBay is much more "bare able". But they are the really "bad guys" I know. That is why now I'm crying my heart out Bouhouhou ! But why ?

I kinda doubt that the beautiful people at Holly Sony would launch their guardian angels on Bob Square attempt to make peanut money to buy food for his starving canary selling a bootleg of the new Paul Anka uncovered northern soul to become... No seriously, if the cuTe working labour class people of the new sOftPornBay of commercialism are onto that as well, the new assigned mission from unHolly God, it's not even for the Beatles, Stones and other poisonous band from Europe (this is not politically prejudiced, I swear ) it's more about a selling market that escaped the main distribution with the rising e-business and that is more impelled to any small profit margin making like selling them bootlegs amongst the rest tall together. All the major retailers are loosing more and more part of the globalized world market even on non-analogic support and format and it is taking Darth Moder down with them in the fall. So God the Court decided to take action and send a nice little message with his best wishes in order to counter that chaos. I'm still not sure if the reissue business of today is much more worthy than those bootlegger's.

The Bell distributed copy pressed on vinyl at Archer (Michigan) in great condition. Copy I got from John Doe's list some 15 years ago or more. Those who knew Dave Whiters and his fuss on condition of records and more so of their groove and play condition, knew that he would only put on his sales list what was NOS and/or Ex+ not to hassle with maniacal customers about critical condition issues. Telling us many road trip tales where he left such or such "drool" record in the shop because of the price also and of a condition issue... Anyway, this copy was played only by me I believe. Likely prior to me, this copy spent most of it's life laying in a cellar forgotten with 'another dirty deal' on top gathering dust that with time became smudge... On the 'there's nothing else to say' side the faint ring wear isn't visible upfront in real life. The scan neon light naturally exhale all the imperfections. It's not only the northern soul bootleg bits that are cracked down on DishCogs, it's everything. I had an old Beatles USA boot that got withdrawn and if the copy is still featured in their database, quoted as "unofficial", no more copies (while there were more than 15 for sale simultaneously) are presented for sale anymore. I don't mind them cleaning that from their e-store. It's even healthy IMO. Only issue I have with such action, from them especially, is that Discogs is a bit painful both for the sellers as the buyers. Much less friendlier than the eVilBay to put up for sale with accurate picture and correct entry is sometimes a "pain" so most sellers don't bother and use the "reference" picture and sometimes wrong entry to sell a "similar" pressing... So those guys deciding on those bases to withdrawn an entry listed item eligible to be "unofficial" is kind of "edgy" I find.

Indeed, I had to wait sometime to cross along and get my stocker to avoid those totally dull late Kent promos. But I'm not sure that many are as picky as me on such mathers. So it flags the same kind of prices I should believe 20-40 maybe ? Some are asking 75 but I doubt anybody who is a bit "up there" will spend that for this.
