  4. This is great, I'd totally forgotten about the Oasis market, as I no longer live in the city. By 1984 myself and my friends were buying drain Pipes there, and Moks, remember them? Poor mans PODs really but I simply did not have the money to splash out on Pods.. we were a strange breed really, french Lines, Drain Pipes and Moks. only for School of course.. Allot of you guys go back to the seventies; I think by the eighties the basement record store was still there, but GW's stall had long since gone. There was however a MOD shop at the top of the stairs if you entered from the outside market entrance; you bought your American parka's from the basement... Mal.C
  5. "THIRD AVENUE BLUES BAND - It's Got To Be Love Revue" I bought this on Dave Flynn's advice, which was to buy it and play at least -2, gives it a whole new reading... One I always loved, from a Sebastian CD I think?? Stu Gardner - How Do You Feel / A&M F**** Fast record but very good, throw in Vicki Anderson - No More Heartaches, no more Pain / King, what a Fabulous Driving track this is!!! so if you buy it it also shares the same flip "Never find a Love like Mine" as the Brownettes on king... Not fast but very very F**** good!! Don't you Just love all these records!!! Mal.C>
  6. I love that record, and funnily enough I've been listening to it loads latley.. Mal:thumbsup:
  7. An old friend who resides in Brighton, Jimmy Lynn used to work in that store, Back in the late 7ts I think, I certainly used to find sleeves with Graham's name on round the various record shops such as the Diskery etc. By the time I was after soul 45's in the mid eighties we went to Reddington's Rare Records, before they were behind rackhams.. would of been at the end of the underpass between Moore street and what's now that horrible shopping centre.. I also got great tracks from Second City sounds, behind the Library, alas long since knocked down, was next to the MOD cafe which was a big haunt after the rigger on a Saturday.. I went to school with the son of the owner of Oasis market, its always been a place to get Fashion, Remember Mike Wilks of south wales telling me he used to get shoes from there while he was going to Wigan, Suppose they would have sold many a pair of Oxford bags.. ahh memories.... Mal.C
  8. Never posted in here before, so bare with me... Dr Kitch - Lord Kitchener- did it come out on Jump Up/Island or Duke first? Mal.C.
  9. I'm up for another swap, although I do think I'm short on the CD's sent to me from last time round, 30 odd went out, 25 or so came in.. so if your one of those people reading this thread, don't waste my time, pls dont sign up for another swap and take peoples good will.. Mal.C.
  10. Blimey, this thread is a bit full on really; personally I've past caring what gets spun where and whether he or she listens to oldies or newies or funk or Norvern or whatever. I simply buy what I concider to be good, what ever that maybe, and expect when I go out to hear the same approach, if its an oldies night then so be it, if its some thing that 's new to my ears, and I think its not all that, well there you go... That said two tunes from Butch at the 100 club Anni, that John Bowie alt version and one he announced as something that was big down here in the late 8ts.. anybody? well if I keep hearing tunes like that, i'm a F***** happy man...!! They are all oldies........... Mal.C.
  11. I did not dance to it at the time, But June Jackson on Musette.. Mal.C
  12. I've mentioned this before, but there is a CD from 10 or so years back that has a studio take, or simply a far superior quality take of this 45 on it, as well as other releases from the label, I've always thought this 45 is very dull in its sound for the money you spend.... The CD track I mention has very prominent tambourine at the start... and its crystal clear!! a whole new experience you might say. M:wicked:
  13. when I was last over there, I took Liza on a right jaunt, looking for those Bloody Mountains! never did get there, funny how a 45 can lead you up the garden path!! Mal
  14. Spot on Pete, I dont comment any longer on the threads, cause its not nice.... but there are 6 or so guys on here who regually bring "What the F***" to my lips... That said, I've also had some real bargins, you just gotta be quick... You might list the better ones, ie the real price against the asked price, no names of course!!! He he Mal.Cl:ph34r:
  15. I got one of these from the States a couple months ago, paid £300 which I thought was a bargin.. mal
  16. Peggy Scott - Things Have More Meaning Now / Old Town Really nice lazy soul track with fabulous guitar lick / solo... Only thing bothering me is its pretty much the same to a Paul Weller one I've heard of maybe Wild Wood, or one of his Lp's, even down to the Piano accomp.. can anybody shed any light, has Weller ripped this off note for note? Mal.C.
  17. Paid 70 or 80 quid for mine back in 05, indeed a hard track with a very nice flip an all... Ray sits next to Chuck Ray on Tamboo in my collection, I don't think I could never separate them.. Good luck! Mal
  18. Troy Dodds - Rise up and walk / Penthouse M- Great track and looking Label... Mint minus condition - ** Now Gone *** contact me on here or on the emails below... Cheers Mal..
  19. John Doe records, or who ever those guys were used to have Betty Lloyd in early 9ts at £60 on their list as they found that batch of them... I reckon Clar Hardy will rise in value, its a very good track what ever the price... Mal:thumbsup:
  20. Australian Atlantic sleeve.\ as long as this is in good condition, I'll take it.. Mal.C.
  21. I've always rated Patience Valentine - our love (a Special Blending) MJR Only thing holding this back maybe the slow intro, but once it gets going there is one hell of a high on Par with Drifters - Outside World, not that the two songs are in any way simular sounds... I think this is more suited to a 100 club spin, Adey? Mal.C.
  22. I love that track, collect anythig by Sam.. His Lost and and Lookin from the Night Beat LP is an essential track for any soul collector... as is the LP!!! oohh andd Johnny Dollar, and Little Red Rooster.. I have every re issue of this LP since its first, sad innnit.... Mal
  23. agree, its truly a fantastic sound, but weaK??? Just re discovered this and cant stop playing it, followed up with The Steve Karmen Big Band, the vocal version.. The F***** Business !! Mal.C
  24. I Did not know him, only met him once, and that was just "Alright Mate" while under the influence at the 100 Club... His writing however as we all know took us closer to the man and his views, there are not that many that leave you as he did after reading sleeve notes or a column in a magazine...for that alone his legacy will always have my respect.. mal
  25. A Ballad, that has a beat!! You did ask..... Mal
