  1. Record collector is very tuned in, Remember they listed that 3rd copy of Combinations - what cha gonna do when it sold last year, found in a yard sale in Tennessee no less..£4774 was the sale price on that one.. that said the blurb and I suppose scan were supplied by guess who? Raresoulman... M
  2. Lynn's very well remembered in Australia, I spoke to many people young and old about Australian music and all sorts remembered her as they do Marcia Hines who of course is a panelist on Australian Pop Idols, loads of Aussies have the LP with 'Cant let go' on, the 7inch release as you all know is a little trickier.. Mal
  3. This track was discovered by one of the guys who has a shop on Haight Street in San Fransisco as Carrie was from the Bay area, both tracks came out as a 45 and on her only Lp, but both were different versions with a dodgy organ throughout, the 45 you speak about nearly never saw the light as Carrie did not like her vocal on that particular recording, and simply was not going to let her stock of the 45 go because of that fact.......great track though.. Mal.C.
  4. There was a great new Discovery here on soul source, Barbara Jean English - Taste sour don't it / Unreleased acetate, 3 acetates came to light and were sold on, but they are not really in the hands of a DJ to make them big, the seller popped a sound file on here: Now if that isn't a top draw 6ts Northern discovery I'll eat my hat and what else comes to hand, as its a far far superior Dancer to most of the new discoveries that get played..there was also a version By Jimmy Radcliffe which IMO was no where near babs version, but thats just my opinion. Other tracks worth a mention that although not discovered this year are pretty newish, Act III on Haley Records, Lotusland records had a stock of this 45 which is where a certain DJ / dealer got them from. Mal.C.
  5. I never go out so they all sound as fresh as the day to me!!! Bar Chris Claaaaaarrrrrrrkkkkkkkkk!!! Mal
  6. I Remember you sold my copy Derek at the 100 club, I'd marked it down to 15 quid or something which I was going to change, anyhow on returning to the box from the bar it had gone!!! what I may have forgot to tell you is it had a bloody great hairline crack.. Mal.C.
  7. was played on capitol radio this morning by Johnny Vaughn no less....turns out he love his Northrern soul ! Mal.C.
  8. Well there you go Pete, its a one off song not recorded by any of the above... You may have a real rarity here matey, take good care of it!! Mal:-)
  9. Think loads of Artists must have done this song, I have a version by Tip Watkins. saying that its a decade later... who knows Mal.C.

Hip Teens is a throw away pop record, nothing less nothing more.. just a bit of fun.. its certainly the top of the tree of its type... I can understand everybody liking it, I especially as some mad man paid me £70 odd quid for mine off here... cost me £2.50.. Mal

Never heard of it Pete, sound very interesting though, maybe you could ask Frank or George, you may never hear back from George of course but who knows what he has tucked away....although Craig Bayliss says he deffo does not have Nolan Porter on Aussie Probe...Laughs ....The mystery lives on!!! Mal.C.
  13. Blimey never though I'd see the day, I bought Sebastian's copy(above), and Very happy I am too that I got it, as this is a very rare track which took me a F*** long time to get, believe me a rare quality crossover record... I know buggar all about Lifeline and all that but if they are spinning stuff like this, I should venture out!!! I Notice somebody also listed Rhythm Machine on Rodan on here recently and no takers.... Mal.C.
  14. Here's the track currently on Ebay for reference, see what I mean? m
  15. Anybody cast any light on this one? Grace Dumas - Song of a Woman / J Jems Is this the same label as Mel Alexanders label, that mirrored his Kris releases? always wondered cause grace disc bears no info on where it might come from, ie no prompt Publishing credit, nothing mentioning Mel, which is unusual for his dics etc?? Mal.C.
  16. I have one at home of that copy Tim brown sold recently... I'll pip it up when I get home. And yes I steal scans of records I will never own for my own personal pleasure!!! laughs Mal.C.
  17. Wow, I'm glad I paid £40 quid for it way back when.. this title in its two green guises always seemed cheap to me in the late 8ts early 9ts, but then record pricing now can be likened to Boris Johnson's campaign for major!!CRAZY!!! M
  18. your right, the Green issue has two flips, Funky twist and Having so much fun. I only heard that alt version(blue version) recently, initially it bowled me over but i reckon the better known has the better vocal... this is that Ed Summers / Joe Anderson problem, ideally you have em both!! M

I bought mine for the Mean man side, then I played What I'd do wrong, and I don't think I've played Mean man since! Clara Wood - your after my Guy on Imperial had a good flip side, Old and Grey, well worth a listen.. One track I could never understand was that the "gotta Have money" side of the Exits on Gemini, for me it had to be Under the street lamp, maybe you would call it a double sider these days, gotta have Money just never touched the spot. -- forgot to mention this one I bought recently: Connie McGill & the Visions - Peace of mind / Sugar as apposed to the 'I wanna Be yours' side, very nice ballad track that has all the visions pitching in at various parts, something magical about the recording, you almost taste the studio they are in , well worth buying INHO.. m
  20. That told me!! laughs... Reba was deffo in a doo wop group on federal though have an Lp of material with some unissued sides I picked up in sydney, I'll dig it out.. You eat the Lexion of all soul Knowledge Tony? thats some very obscure info to have so quick to mind, for me it all goes in, but some times its comes out wrong if you get my meaning.. all interesting stuff though....especially the 521 discog, what else do you know about the label? M

I find these days I'm buying most of my 45's for the supposed B-Side, to me they are well and truly the A sides!! laughs try these: Betty Fikes & the Passsions - I cant lie to my Heart / Southbound as apposed to the other 7ts soul side I can prove it Betty Harris -What I'd do wrong as apposed to the Northern dancer Mean Man Rhythm Machine - What you gonna do, as apposed to the in vogue Funk dancer Freakish Love Melvin Elling - Love's road / Stretch as apposed to the lonely eyes side Christ there are loads, at work just now so dont have my reference material at hand but will post a load more later.. Mal.C.
  22. Zilla reminds me of Cornell Gunters Sister, Reba Gunter. very much a 5ts artist who sang with a big doo wop group on Federal, cant remember the name of the group just now, there must be literally hundreds of female singers with this kind of lineage, Reba made a sort of come back by writing Cornells 7ts effort on Together Records, a brill 7ts track that sold buggar all. Thanks for the info all, more than enough there as I'm gonna hunt some of this stuff down! anybody got any sound files? we need to hear this Valentine Adams 45 me thinks. Mal.C.
  23. You would have to say they are the same artist Sebastian, whith a name like "Zilla Maye"? saying that i said the same about Shep on TNT being Shep ffrom Shep and the Limelights, got that wrong!! on another kind of related note, that Paul Walters / 521 records I bought off you, know whether he recorded any more 45's? again that tracks so good there has to be more.. was trying to pull together a 521 discog, but alas only have 3 discs so far... very obscure label.. M
  24. Pretty much I suppose, Zilla is a raw mid tempo sound, really top quality. Sho Nuff has all the gloss of the 7ts, and an unbelievable exchange between sly slick & wicked, used to hate it, made me winse, now I love it... You would have to hear it, Mike, but Slick comes back to a question from Sly(I think) who exclaims "I'm a man" and somebody says "I know I am"!! you gotta hear it.... brilliant stuff.. This is not a Pete Smith type of record!!! Laughs. Cd in the post to you sir, just stick your latest and greatest back to me...and prod that brother of your's for me.. Anybody on any more Tou sea Gems? M
