  6. Gladys Knight & the Pips - Maybe Maybe Baby / Maxx Only a tidler in collecting terms but just picked one up, and I'm Damm pleased with it, easliy up there with Stop and get a hold / Tell her your mine, notice the same writing credits (Newman) are present across all those 3 discs so there is deffo a certain sound that appeals, saying that van McCoy wrote the brilliant flip 'Giving Up' so its 2 for one time!!! Good label this, anybody got a label listing? mal>C

  11. I always say I collect anything and everything but in reality I generally always end up buying 6ts and 7ts records, Ballads, Deep, Mid Tempo, some Funk with lots of classic Stafford Northern stuff. Used to collect nothing but new releases at one time but I find now other than 20 tracks say it just does not hit the spot so to speak..too weak I do like allot of early house though, all that Trax / DJ International stuff including 10 City etc with as spluttering of the better Italian releases from 89 through 91, they made a class track for every 10 releases back then, Voices of Africa, Izit - Stories, Psycho Team, acts of Madmen the list is endless And then of course there is the Grid and Renegade Sound wave from the uk !!!! F*** solid!! laughs You gotta keep an open mind though haven't you... Mal.
  12. I assume this is an Aussie copy? Winstons,Colour him father,Festival,60 M
  13. So you like that one do you Pete? M
  14. I have to say this is a FABULOUS record! never really thought of it as a beat ballad though, more a slow to mid tempo tune, maybe I always associate Beat Ballad with 6ts recordings... Vinnie Monte on the other hand I waited to hear for years and years, and when I eventually did I thought it was very unspectacular, in fact I cant remember it at all... strange init? cause I would never put these two together.. M
  15. You know the people I swapped it with Ted; Micky & Jodie from Brum.. Glad the Colt 45 saga is over; I do enjoy Power of Love!!! Mal.C.
  16. I bought one last year from set sale at £50 which I was lucky with, good price for a fabulous 45.. M
  17. I cant help you Dazz but had to say why I cant sell you my copy... for some unnatural reason I swapped my copy of Colt 45's on Jerri for it, and as such can never sell that record! Buggar!! you should be able to pick one up though, don't pay more than £30 odd quid... good luck. Mal.C.
  18. every week evidently!! in a world of my own there! m
  19. I went to the Dome regually and never heard the 4 vandals but I was not there every week, suppose only people like Matt J, Dave Flynn etc can really answer that one. You hear all sorts about Ian Lavine, but what strikes me is how somebody can so regually, knowingly state things in print and on film that he knows are completely untrue, how could you look others in the eye knowing you have repetitively done that? or more importantly you are in fact full of S***! He's a very strange man.. m
  20. Rosetta Johnson - That hurts Sure it was gonna go 'big' one day and make me rich by selling the spares, but it never did, just the 4 copies left on the shelf.
  21. Agree John they could do allot more, it's been an age since Pete Smiths northern soul special back in the 9ts... there has of course been related features since but a reappraisal on the northern soul collecting scene would give them a great inside spread. Mojo are the same, I love the magazine but I feel they are kind of frightened to cover the subject in depth leaving it to bods like us I suppose... Will look out for Len Barry.. Mal>C
  22. real mxed bag as always, Rhythm Machine - What you gonna Do / Rodan Dells - there is Wesley Page - You turn me around / Rojac Lee Harvey - my assurance / J Jems Royal Premiers - you can make it if you try Soloman Burke - down in the valley mal.C.
  23. Record collector is very tuned in, Remember they listed that 3rd copy of Combinations - what cha gonna do when it sold last year, found in a yard sale in Tennessee no less..£4774 was the sale price on that one.. that said the blurb and I suppose scan were supplied by guess who? Raresoulman... M
  24. Lynn's very well remembered in Australia, I spoke to many people young and old about Australian music and all sorts remembered her as they do Marcia Hines who of course is a panelist on Australian Pop Idols, loads of Aussies have the LP with 'Cant let go' on, the 7inch release as you all know is a little trickier.. Mal
  25. This track was discovered by one of the guys who has a shop on Haight Street in San Fransisco as Carrie was from the Bay area, both tracks came out as a 45 and on her only Lp, but both were different versions with a dodgy organ throughout, the 45 you speak about nearly never saw the light as Carrie did not like her vocal on that particular recording, and simply was not going to let her stock of the 45 go because of that fact.......great track though.. Mal.C.
