Don't Yer Just Luv It When....?
Oooops. Read this last night and sent my reply without re-reading the post!! Incidentally, I'll show Paul around the site ASAP, but couldn't understand some of the criticism he got. He is just like we all were. Wants to hear as much as he can as soon as he can. Thanks again for the CDs. Enjoyed DFs guest spot. Need to buy some sunnies.

How Many "scene's" Are Cover By The "northern Soul" Tag ?
Pete, Bang on mate! Never understood how some of the music that is, and has been played could ever be called "Northern". I'm with you. Can't stand being at a venue and a 70s/80s track comes on and fills the dance floor. What are these people doing at a Northern Soul do?

Who First Used The Term - Keep The Faith?
The saying was first associated with the scene thanks to Dave Godin. Used to love his column, but was he a pessimist!

Favorite Verse
Cathy Bs debut on here is:- My anger clouded my judgement And I saw a red flash And my mouth wrote a check that my heart couldn't cash. Parliament - Don't be Sore at Me Mine is:- When I look into your soft eyes I melt like candy jam, I'll do anything to please you, yes anything I can. Me and Dave Godin go for that, and no one can beat Mr Godins taste, Blues and Soul 1972.

Pop Masquerading As Soul
Ady, Why do you need to believe the words he is singing? Why is it corny? Why is it trite and what do you mean forced? Why launch this attack on one of the biggest songs ever to hit the northern scene? I was fortunate enough to get a copy of this for 25p in 1973 from a mate of mine who was working at the Reform Club in London and spent his free time in the record shops looking for gems like this. Was lucky then and feel lucky now to be able to listen to gems like this either out in a club or in my own home. You have done some fantastic things for the scene and for the fans, but why knock this particular record? We all know northern soul isn't exclusively black struggling artists as put so eloquently by Epic (great reply) but this is a great vocal performance that ranks along any of the Jamie, Dionn, Top and Bottom and Arctic sides of the 6ts. I would like to hear your reply Ady, as i greatly respect your contribution, but this seems unfair to me. Thanks and keep up the great work Brian B

Unexpected Soul On Radio
Tony Blackburn played If I Could Only Be Sure in 74 (?) as a new release. Was on a coach on my way to work. Thought to myself that would be great at Wigan. Always stuck in my mind. Bought the Skullsnaps on GSF that weekend at Marshalls in Burnley. The Nolan record had not yet come in! Sickener.

Soul Chaser Thats What Iam
Has to be Lorraine Chandler for me. What a team she had in NYC in the 6Ts. Jack Ashford, Mike Terry and Ivy Joe Hunter, not to mention all the rest of the RCA crew. Never managed to get a copy of Tell Me Your Mine. All her RCA recordings are awesome. Brenda Holloway not far behind though.

New York Record Stores
I was in a shop on Broadway a few years ago. Guy had a life size autographed photo of Roy Hamilton. Asked if I could take a photo, he said yes for $50!!! He had a few Jackie Wilson LPs for sale at $60-$70. Didn't find any bargains, and all the owners were bloody grumpy.

Which Dj's From The Past Would Be Great Today?
Tony Jebb and "Mick The Fed" who did the Burnley area 68 to 71. Big Wheel sounds man with a mega mad personality. Never heard of him since. What happened to Tony Jebb anyone? Last heard he was ill in Blackpool after getting heavily into the weightlifting scene.

Remember Stuart Duthoit?
Anyone remember Stuart Duthoit from Burnley, nicknamed Dewi, from the Casino and Mecca from 73 onwards? He is back for a short visit after 20 odd years in Oz. He has has a terrible time over the last few years. His wife died, he lost his job in tragic circumstances, had some other major personal problems to deal with, then a couple of years ago he was hit by a truck whilst getting out of his car and suffered head injuries. He is about 80% recovered, but progress is now slow. He will be in the Rising Sun Inn in Blacko, between Burnley and Skipton at 8pm on Sat 15th for his suprise 50th Birthday party. If anyone is in the area please call in for a pint. He is a great guy and was a real extrovert, plus a bloody great dancer. He used to sit in the Casinos "Burnley Corner" with me, Johnny Roscoe, Fuse, Judy, Dave Phillips, Toofy, Greeny and too many others to mention.

Chatbusters
I've bought Chatbusters from free issue no 1 to now, but I have rarely seen such a deterioration in quality as this. Point taken on how much can we talk about Motown, but this issue is poor.

Just got my new copy of Chatbusters through the post. One word sums it up... Atrocious! Anyone agree?

Skiing In The Snow
Why the big urge to knock we were listening to then, by judging SITS by today's standards? Quote Levine and Jonh Vincent. " The biggest records of all time(NS, not beat ballads, not RnB, not late Doo Wop) were discovered 72-74". This was one of the biggies at the time. Play Dean Barlow or Ralph Graham at the Torch, Pendelum or Wigan in 73. They just would not have caught on. Each record has a time and place for most people. Times and tastes change. Bloody hell, accept this. I was on the scene then. I'm on the scene now. I loved it then, I love it now. But its changed. Why knock what was played. At least its a bloody record from the 60ts, by a black group on a fantastic lable, with great arrangers and producers! I deapair when I hear some of the stuff played occasionally, but we all like different things. Why spend time knocking the scene when we have enough problems, a lot of them caused by infighting and lack of acceptance by certain people.
