  1. ....and funnily enough some 12s play at 45 some at 33....
  2. Think that's the original! Anyway there are loads of them, I have at least 50-100 of the damn things and some of them even play at 33 rpm just to confuse you...
  3. Oh fantastic I'd forgotten about that....old Ian never missed a trick - seem to recall we went the 'long way' from the station to the club too! Still a shopping trolley was better than the time we went to St ALbans fire station (Mick's do), and Kim had his 600 sales box which we all (including you I think - but cannot remember) had to have a go at lugging on the 2 mile march from the station to the venue.
  4. think the confusion over Crow being a rock record came about because Tony Cummings described it as such in Black Music magazine
  5. As an ex smoker (30-40 a day not some whimpy 5 a day), I know how you smokers feel. I even come outside in the smoking area with you smokies when it's not too cold. However I must say that I am enjoying going to clubs which have relatively clean air and aren't all fuggy. Felt it was a real problem in the summer when loads were going outside and it was killing off the atmosphere inside. Not so bad in the winter though when it's cold / wet etc.
  6. I got a whitey demo. Got it from Tedsoul a few years ago.
  7. Have seen it at everything from 50-200. Great tune though!

Is this the awful thing they were singing on SCD on Sunday?
  9. +£5 Postage - WOW!
  10. At least we didn't crack any records!
  11. That must have been the night he did his Motown spot then All USA demos as I recall!
  12. Same thing with me, unless it's quite close to home (or the City). Plus often knackered after a week at work on Friday evening - again can manage a soul night, but an all-nighter . By Saturday I am raring to go out.
  13. Some venues (in towns) this comes with the hall booking. As others have said - to keep the monsters out.
  14. Got mine from John Manship but it was about 7 years ago I think when he was at SouL Essence.

Of the new releases Lee McDonald and the remix of "I'll do anything for you", which is a sublime update of this classic track. I've also had the latest Angie Stone in my car boot for over a month - nearer 2 months.....keep forgetting to play it, but I have heard it's good.
  16. Is the Parliaments on Cabell in that lot then?

Not sure if you are taking the Mick Terry - there's no smiley at the end of your post? If not U were dancing to it at Bedford ya prune!
  18. Tight a*se
  19. Venues generally are cheap IMHO compared to the cost of everything else. + Soul DJ's aren't exactly well paid compared to our friends on the funk and jazz scene.

One of THE most important 60s records of the last few years....in fact just about THE one for me.
  22. Yes went to all of them, and even one night when it wasn't on. Shocking but a load of us came up from Kent, only to find it empty. So we had to get some staff train back to St Pancras at about 3 am. There were several of them promoted by Ken Cox EASC I seem to recall. Always a big crowd there, most memorable ones for me was when Nev Wherry was DJing but best of all when Sam was on playing all the big Wigan 70's - Love committee cover up, Top Cat etc. It go me to go back to Wigan after a two year absence. Got my Ronnie McNeir there for £10 as well. So a good event in my books. Did a write up in The Northern Line (forerunner to Blackbeat) will try and find it. 1980 I think?
