Very sad to hear about this. It's b*llocks frankly that this stuff is allowed to go on! Here's a better story for you, when I DJed abroad at a gig last year I left a Mark IV "If you can't tell me anything good" under the deck by mistake (1210 Technics). By the time I'd landed back in the UK the promotor had rung one of the other UK guys to say that they had found the 45 when they were clearing up from the venue and did he know who's it was? Checked my box and my copy wasn't in there....and so the promotor posted it back to me. Top fella. Thing is it's not a record I play very often so I probably wouldn't have noticed it missing for months probably had they not been honest. So remember there are plenty of good people are honest folk on the scene too who do the right thing.
  2. But why? Larry Clinton WD dozens of them……Sandy Golden still only 5 copies.
  3. Elaine has posted this on FB. Hi All, Just to say Merry Christmas to everyone from the northern soul the film team. We are definitely going to be having a cinema release in 2014 and should have news for you in January on this page. Thanks to all our supporters and everyone who made this film happen and to all your kind words and offers of help. We looking forward to seeing you all at the 100 club Christmas Party tonight and The Blackpool Winter Gardens on NYE and then the cinema in 2014. Elaine and the team. xxx
  4. Yes......I could guess but don't know where it went....possilby USA possibly Japan.....possibly UK

    Looks the ticket.....
  6. Dunno who these dudes are - care to tell us? is it Ian Dewhirst?
  7. So what is your question then?
  8. Darren your photo shows label address scratched out - this was something Soul Bowl did in the early 80s….
  9. Mine is less "girlie pink" more "dirty pink" ATB Steve
  10. Agree, was watching this in the dying embers, three bidders all going head to head….Dunno who won it in the end though…..
  11. Quote: RESPECT? Perhaps you also "respect" him for what he did to the Howard Mallett soul club in the early 90s...intervention effectively killed off a good club didn't it? Or did we dream it all...... Some of you need to take off them rose tinted glasses methinks. "he he x @@@lol".....
  12. Yes I agree Steve. No one is "digging out" the charity fellas and well done for Sooty for doing his bit. BUT we get a thread called "I feel alright" and it's all about Sooty and his weekend, musing and the fellas other views of "the scene" - interesting as that may be for some folk.....We've all done charity gigs over the years, you do your bit promoting the event, turn up, do your bit at the gig, get the money raised, maybe post a playlist, bank the dosh with the charity and thank everyone, that's it, job done .....Unless of course you are Sooty......I don't know anyone else that's participated in a charity gig as a DJ that starts their own thread up after the event.....to tell everyone that they've just done a charity gig . If you are a promotor you'd promote the event in advance and maybe start a thread that says "Thanks everyone for coming we raised £1,000" etc.....But that's it..."innit" ? x Terry is right, Sooty is a big time self promotor - it's always about the fella first and foremost....Count the "I"s and "Me's" in his posts, then count the "we" and "they's".......rather telling......and if you don't believe Sooty's self promotion credentials just google the dude. He's a legend in the Cambridge area. Anyway cautious I don't want to be malicious esp. at Christmas , the guy obviously has heaps of energy and most of it is pointed in the direction of good causes, just that it all comes with a load of old baggage as well.
  13. The answer is it depends what it is and whether the crack NAP...I mean a real one off known copy or complete unkinown you could easily see a collector (or upfront DJ) buying a copy with a crack in it if it plays through without a major click.....BUT Run of the mill "northern rarities" I have to agree unless you are "Desperate Dan the DJ Man" you should be patient and wait for a decent copy to turn up.
  14. Is this a late 70s recording - I noticed it looks like the label address "tampered with" by a paper clip.
  15. Exactly these "I'll source the record for you" dudes are to be avoided.....
  16. Color looks too bright.....
  17. Last one went last week on ebay.
  18. Demo is £10-£15
  19. That's the reissue….plus it's a special order - AVOID
  20. Shouldn't this be in events feedback? Or even "freebasing"?
  21. Really, seems like everytime you write something I disagree with it. Brainstorm and Flaming Emeralds were contemporary soul releases made for the US market at the time, Sidney Barnes (much as we love the fella) was made specially for "da scene" here. It's a catchy pop record that probably should have got into the charts. Enjoy London (it's raining here)...
  22. Three memories for me: Preston Street Dancers (from Preston) Neil Page's flashing lights on his record box Randy nearly getting us in a fight with a bunch of Rotherham locals in a pub.... Happy days,.
  23. Sums it all up for me rather nicely actually.... "Modern DJ" playing Alfie Davison, Prince Phillip Mitchell etc......what a f*ckin joke. Played at the Casino 33 years ago, and nearer to you, you should know we were hammering them at the Fleet, St Ives and Wirrina early 80s too (Adam & myself).....And all you can come up with in repost is good old Lou Pride yawn yawn yawn. Sidney Barnes "Solid ground"? - I have left many a room when a so called DJ has put this on. lazy man's record. DJ Genesis ruined a perfect decent Betty Wright record. Keep saying it, but why not leave these revivalists to get on with it? - going same places dancing to the classic oldies. They ain't never gonna change in a million years, so why do we persist in moaning about 'em? Like complaining about the weather......
  24. Is it an unissued Chuck Jackson or a cover up name? Thought Butch told me once it was just a blank label acetate, although must admit it does sound like Chucky boy....
  25. A couple of tricky ones in there Ian.
