  1. Great show, a must listen if you have any interest in Soul Music beyond Northern.
  2. I was playing it all over South Yorkshire and anywhere else I DJ'ed late 80-'s and into the 90's Sean. It may well have had the odd spin at Thorne, especially when Gary was running it. By the time Rod was in control it was probably too "northern" for Thorne.
  3. The Ghetto Boys also on the label (tarx), fantastic record.
  4. Those two plus a ton to get one back? You came out pretty good IMO with that deal.
  5. Otis Lee whilst there was some quantity it was no where near the numbers of WT, Ringleaders, Frank Beverley etc.
  6. Yep, Ringleaders too, Frankie Beverley on Sassy, loads of titles that are well into three figures price wise brought over here in large quantity.
  7. Yep good for crossover/70's but we did have the likes of Thorne, Pitches and the Phoenix for that which were great nights with a more underground feel to them. Parkers was great.
  8. Yep me too. Fleetwood the northern side was pretty poor and the weekender was far from underground like Yarmouth was. Keele, whilst a good laugh and a great record bar, musically was the start of the rot for me.

Dn't f**k with the baldies. sorry couldn't resist I have seen one listed somewhere recently. If I come across it I will shout up.
  10. The comment of Mick's I was referring to is in post 28 but I agree with you both the buck stops with the promotion team and the security. But as Mick did say bad incidents do happen and obviously questions arw going to be asked afterwards and improvements made to avoid future occurances. I doubt anyone involved in security can say they have had an incident free life and that they and the team they work with have missed incidents. But some responsibility has to rest with those who attend to alert any promoter and any security team to incidents they have missed or if you can see any incident about to kick off. I don't know what those who attend Goldsoul events are like, I can guess and if what is said is true then I have no wish to ever attend any kind of event like it, I have no interest in the retro side of the scene and prefer to attend events that I do attend where it would appear to be a lot less hassle. I strongly believe it is time for memberships to return, but it has to be universal. Maybe the cost of getting in as well. £10 or £12 with a bar for 12 hours is bound to appeal to local idiots who lets face have no interest in the music whether that be Kings Hall or the local night club.
  11. Mick has already said not everything can nor will it in the future be seen by the security. I would imagine every promoter would be disappointed if something of this nature happened at their event it was not reported to someone involved, promoter or security. Now I don't know the situation at Kings Hall, I haven't been for a while and it doesn't really interest me either. I don't know if Kev is on the ball with security or not but it looks like some of those who attend don't give a f*ck for fellow attendees either. Again I am not defending Kev, nor am I speaking up for him, I am simple giving the perspective from a promoters viewpoint.
  12. I read your reasons why and thought it a pretty poor reason to be honest. You let him completely get away with his behaviour, he probably spoiled it for others because of this and probably thinks it is ok to return and act like a dick again. If he was a local p*ss head and was ejected he would probably have gone off in search of somewhere else to act the tw*t, never known anyone hang about after getting thrown out of a soul night waiting for vengence. I would imagine there would have been plenty around to look after you and see you to your car? i'm not siding with or defending Kev or Goldsoul, I'm simply speaking as someone who has and is involved with a promotion. This topic just seems to be turning into another bash Kev Roberts and Goldsoul topic rather than addressing what happened and what should have happened as a consequence.
  13. As someone involved with a promotion and if something like this happened then I too would be wondering why it wasn't reported to the promoters or security. As Mick says (and he has more experience than most) security cannot stop every incident but if something is missed and not reported then things cannot be improved for the benefit of all.

He isn't daft Mr. Jeffries. He has had more free advertising for his site through you lot. You've saved him a fortune in advertising costs
  15. Occasionally, feedback means bugger all. Many scams are done by first of all gaining the confidence of customers.
  16. I agree maybe it is time for memberships. Maybe promorters can get together and do a universal one, share the costs? I doubt it will happen though. Some prefer to take the money and let security deal with potential problems.
  17. I know you always have plenty of security Kev and security can't spot every thing that happens.
  18. Pied Piper or not, it is vocally terrible. I can only imagine it got plays because of its rarity.
  19. Don't they have security at Kings Hall? If management and security at any venue let these f*ckwits in and are not prepared to stop idiots acting the tw*t on the dancefloor as they try to impress some lass then sometimes matters need to be taken into your own hands. Me, if someone nutted me I'd drop the cnut, with a chair if necessary, providing I wasn't unconscious
  20. The photo is from the Ol Virginia cd.
  21. Bobby Eli says just the one original, Steve Kelly.
  22. Pretty sure it's on one of the Ol Virginia CDs. $2500 seems a little steep.
  23. Richard Searling's unissued Emmanuel Laskey.
