Darrell Banks - Open The Door To Your Heart 2014 London
Well I was told it was bought by someone in Hull for his girlfriend who wasn't really into soul. They then later split up? Where it is now, dunno.

Stanky - Billy Davis Talk (Split From Orig Thread)
I don't regard Lifeline as anything.speaks for itself. As I said just because you or a few others hadn't heard it doesn't mean others hadn't. You had a long time off don't forget.

RIP Freddie Houston
Sad news. R.I.P. Freddie.

Stanky - Billy Davis Talk (Split From Orig Thread)
Wha tyou don't get though is that just because Fred was the first to play it at Burnley doesn't mean it was known or indeed played by others elsewhere. It was already selling for a ton or just under at the time and played elsewhere at the tme and prior. Some people do like to rewrite history. The record was crap years ago, it is no better now.

Andy plays Cressa Watson version, not many known copies. I would also have thought Ravins, Henry C would also be popular for Andy. i also realise it is just a guide and not everyone will agree just as I don't agree with some of the crap that is number 1 in the pop charts.

Motown Unreleased 1964
Yes you are probably right. I read that is the reason the Beatles released a bunch of unreleased and alt. takes as they would have been out of copyright after 50 years. Once released you retain copyright and control and obviously any royalties due.

Which Robert Thomas are you talking about, Salvation?

Top 500 'fans'...look Away Now
I would imagine the likes of Frankie Beverley, Invitations, Major Lance, Tangeers, couple of Gene Chandler, Pookie Hudson, James Barnett and plenty of others are far more popular across the country than the likes of Johnathon Capree, Billy Davis, Soulutions

40 plus years of music and it all boils down to 20 records that have been hammered for much of those 40 years, it is depressing. Many of the 20 are the staple diet of the vast majority of oldies nigts up and down the country. Two are three I can't for the life of me imagine why a DJ would feature them as one of his top spins. Don't get me wrong some fabulous record s in the list as well but you can only listen to a top 20 for so many years before getting thoroughly bored. Would you listen to the same top 20 or 40 in a night club for 40 years?

I would imaging it is compiled by Goldsoul attendees? Would be good to know how many cancassed to arrive at this chart.

But what is? It is ultimate northern and will take some beating, much of what followed the since the discovery of the Tomangoes is inferior. But as for the upfront scene, what and who have you listened too lately? I've heard some fantastic sets at Lifeline, 100 Club, middle room at Radders and other venues the last 12 months or so. Much of the funky stuff does little for me but it does fill the floor. But there is still plenty of new stuff out there that is actually very good. There is life in it yet, just depends where you go and who you listen to. Just because you or others don't like it doesn't mean it has had it.

I would agree regarding the funk, some of it is good, some excellent, a lot is very average and worse. Much of what I hear does nothing for me but I appreciate others like it, it is a question of getting the balance right.

Lew Curtain Revue ?
Been a long time since I listened to the PAD version but never heard it described as a remake by another artist before? Only ever heard it described as an edited down bootleg. I will have to listen again to both when I get the chance.
-
Lew Curtain Revue ?
I always thought it was a Carolina beach scene bootleg and as Joe says the 12 inch edited down for the 7. It was mentioned previously in a topic about Carolina boots that they had a habit of slightly changing the spelling of names.

Some one played it at Wigan, it is on the tape?
-
Mr. Mark Dobson Aka Butch
According to the tape it is Richard but he says he never played it. It was then played by John Vincent early 80's, Butch was playing it late 85 into 86, maybe earlier?
-
Awesome Richard Searling Spot At Wigan
He played it at places like Morecambe 82/83.

Promoters Booking Events At Other Promoters Venues. Is This Right?
Take Butlins and Kings Hall out of the equation, the rest are all after the same crowd. 137 miles is nothing for the all-nighter crowd who travel on a regular basis. Some just seem to have no respect for other promoters or promotions. There isn't room for the ever increasing number of promotions, it is simply splitting the crowd. One or two on this topic have had more clashes than the Titans. There is a complete lack of morals, etiquette and respect on the scene today.
