  1. Who by, there is nothing anywhere about it apart from the wiki entry. Nothing even on the Spinners own page nor other news agencies in the US?
  2. I can't find anything official about Bobby's death other than the wikipage entry. The Spinners apparently had a show the following week which apparently went ahead??
  3. Link to the Stafford Story on my site.... https://www.soulunderground.co.uk/StaffordTOTW/ My mixcloud page with plenty of "live" Stafford recordings and other venues of the era. https://www.mixcloud.com/Chalkster/stafford-all-nighter-30th-march-1983-pat-brady-dave-thorley-keb-darge/
  4. You only have to look at the podcast I have done so far (33 I think) that the majority of tracks were dancers as Ion says. Beat Ballads etc were a small part yet were given prominence. Take a look at Guys first two podcasts, one is his first set at Stafford, the second few months later but it was basically a different set of records. The DJ's throughout the 80's and early 90's had imagination and weren't afraid to try something, if it didn't work was quickly dropped and something else put in its place. There was always the search form the next "newie". Unlike today where not many DJ's have the right attitude, balls or imagination to leave the beaten track of the same old same, one reason I'm finding it harder and harder to motivate myself to go out nowadays.
  5. If you want a more comprehensive view of Stafford then go to my website and read the Stafford Story page. Link is in my signature.
  6. He used to live near me in Chesterfield. Lives in West Yorkshire doesn't he now? The women who did his biography lives up road from us in Howden.
  7. If money no object I doubt you'd get Jean Carter
  8. I doubt £2k would get you this

Cheers Dave. Just said Uk as couldn't read the text.

Which take is the Uk copy Dave? Can't listen at moment.
  11. An excellent review from Dave. We are always looking for reviews of this quality, if you fancy doing one, venue, cd etc then send one to Mike or myself and we will sort it for you.
  12. Other label is Silver Fox as Baby Al and the Capps. Not as hard as the shell copies.
  13. Who is John Thompson?
  14. Came out on two labels if memory serves me right, shell and ? Covered up by Andy Dyson once upon a time, been around years though.

143 and 152, different takes. Both great though, one of the best northern records ever for me and cheap!

The two issues on Calla are different mixes/takes. As far as I was aware the other different take belongs to Butch, he has the studio acetate which has male backing.
  17. I'd sooner have a choo choo off Miss Collins
  18. Just jesting Ted although to be fair it doesn't do a lot or me but can see the appeal to others.
  19. You want taxing for playing this
  20. I think it's a better record as well. But the mainstream crowd still don't know it really, shame.
  21. Des Parkers "Judy Street" cover up originally.
  22. I presume the one Keb had was the one Dave/Rod had? It was played at Lifeline to a busy floor last month. Great record everything a northern DJ could want in a record IMO.
  23. William Cummings, Butch says it was a £4 rarity on Soul Bowl in 1974 then £1 special in 1975 when he and Tim got copies, it's on here somewhere. Like you say though, Pete don't think it was played till years later from what I could find out.
  24. I found a company that converted reel to reel to cd for you, cost about £40 for an hours worth of material.
