The Greatest Northern Danceable 'slowie'....assuming You Agree There Is Such A Thing
Why did you wait ten years and get up at that time? There's loads on eBay all the time. Highlands biggest seller if memory serves me right, kept the label going for awhile.

Would I Be Shot For Requesting = Mercy By Duffy
Mikeyof, we do have a vast back catalogue and the search facility is very good. Many subjects have been covered and it might be an idea to have a quick search for older topics? I think all that needs to be said has be said. Topic closed.

Stafford
Oh and Stafford TOTW, it was 30 years ago this month when it all began.

Stafford
https://www.soulunderground.co.uk/StaffordTOTW/ It is work in progress and I will get through all the DJ's in time. The podcasts from Dave Withers, Gary Rushbrooke and Richard Searling and some of Dave Torleys all cover the first year or so. More to come from Ady Pountain (this weekend hopefully), Adam, Pat, Guy, Keb, Robin, George Sharp and anyone else involved at Stafford. Some of the podcasts featured actually replicate sets from the second Stafford Night and one from Richard in I think 83.

Bill Bush Im Waiting
Doesn't surprise me it was played earlier though I wouldn't have thought it was deemed good enough for Cleethorpes.

Bill Bush Im Waiting
Gary Spencer late 80's early 90's. Billy Lennox cover up.

By slowie I would imagine that means beat ballad/ballad not mid tempo?

After Frank Wilson What Northern Soul Records Are In The All Time Top Ten Rarestrecords
The Bunky copy, theres at least one in this country isn't there. Few Rouser copies now. Junior McCants on King, Kell Osborne spring to mind. Most of Butch's biggies. A mate has at least half a dozen where there are just one "known" copy and he doesn't DJ or go anywhere really. I say "known" cause no one really knows what is out there, there's every chance there is a box load of some rarity waiting to be found. But Jim is right there are stacks of records rarer and as rare as Frank Wilson.

Can't Please All Of The People All Of The Time?
First of all welcome to the site. I'm sure you will find it everything you want it to be, lots of knowledge and information and plenty of event chatter. Secondly no one has rapped your knuckles, Mike has simply tried to guide you in the right direction as your topics were plainly in the wrong place. There is a comprehensive dedicated events section and calendar with plenty of comments and look backs which hopefully will help you make your mind up about a venue. The "All About The Soul" forum is for general scene talk that isn't record, label or artist related, that all goes in the "Look At Your Box" forum. Non soul chatter goes in the magazine section which should be self explanatory. We also have a "Source Feedback" forum for all your questions to anything you are unsure about. Ask if unsure and I'm certain you will get the help and answers you require. Enjoy Soul Source.

Macmillan Fundraising Day.. Golf Shoe Shufflers 1st July
Four mates are having a golf day to raise funds for the Macmillan Cancer Support Trust. The four, Alan "Kitch" Kitchener, Tim "Tef" Broughton, Colin Law and Andy Whitmore will play four rounds of golf in one day. Might not sound a lot but each round will take approximately four hours and in total covering something like 22 miles. This will be done all on foot. The day will take place on July 1st at The West Linton Golf Course who have donated the course free of charge and supplied a buggy free of charge. This will be chauffeured by James "Jock" O'Connor and Stephen "Chuddy" Dudley. I wonder how many dents will be in it by the end The guys are asking for your support to raise as much as possible for such a worthy cause. You can donate by visiting http://uk.virginmone...ers&isTeam=true here's what they say.... Hi, thanks for visiting our page. We are the golfshoeshufflers. Alan Kitchener, Andy "Toots" Whitmore, Colin Law and Tim "Tef" Broughton. All of us have been affected by cancer with friends and close family members and Macillan cancer has helped those people close to us in their final days bringing them hope, reassurance and above all dignity. So what better way to pay back their support and kindness by raising money for their future work with other cancer patients. Please give what you can and all donations will be greatly appreciated. The longest day golf challenges means we have to complete 4 18 hole rounds of golf in the same day, an average game taking 4 hours to complete and over 20 miles to walk. None of us have single figure handicaps so this will some task for 4 "oldish" guys to complete, but with the help of our 2 buggy drivers "Jock & Chuddy" I think we can do it with all your support and donations of course. We would also like to thank West Linton Golf Course for supporting our cause and letting use their course for the challenge. Please visit their site.http://www.wlgc.co.u....php/index.html PLEASE NOTE WE ARE TAKING THE CHALLNGE ON 1ST JULY 2012. You can learn more about the Macmillan Cancer Support Team at http://www.macmillan.org.uk/Home.aspx and you can see the course they are playing at http://www.wlgc.co.u....php/index.html

Can't Please All Of The People All Of The Time?
Times have moved on since 6x6 and like Win I'd be surprised if anyone hasn't heard it. As the others said you are obviously going to the wrong place, 100's of venues that are out and out oldies up and down the country. Don't think I've ever seen a DJ clear the floor one record after another but have you ever wondered why he or she was booked and what they were asked to play. I've been booked to do a certain set and it was totally inappropriate for the venue what I was asked to play. The promoters fault.

The Top Discoveries Of 2012? Spinners Unissued Motown
Details of the upcoming CD that Keith Hughes posted on Soulful Detroit. Yes, it's official! Ace/Kent are proud to announce the first Spinners CD of Motown recordings since 2001's Essential Collection. We've taken their first LP The Original Spinners (The Detroit Spinners in the UK), and filled out the disc with rare and (mostly) unreleased tracks recorded between their arrival at Motown in mid-1963 and the LP's release in October 1967. New to all save a few diehards with a rapidly deteriorating cassette collection are vocal harmony gems from the group's early sessions such as "12 O'Clock" and "Darling", the latter specially mixed for this CD as the original rough mix used on the acetate could not be found. (The remainder of the tracks are all 1960s mixes from the original Motown tapes.) From the other end of the timeline, and new to everyone, we think, are a definitive version of "Tea House In China Town" which in some people's opinion knocks the Four Tops' version for six, and a song surely destined to be a Northern classic: "We're Gonna Be More Than Friends". Keep that wheel twisted, friends ... The CD has the full approval of Universal Music, and the active co-operation of Mr Harry Weinger, to whom as usual go our thanks. Spinners experts including Ritchie Hardin, Heikki Suasolo and Andy Rix (all of this parish) have guided us along the way, but of course final blame for errors (especially any involving counting!) must lie with the CD's compilers, Mick Patrick and myself. As for omissions ... there's easily enough left for a Volume 2, if anyone's up for it! They were busy boys in the studio. We're hoping to get this out at the end of June - we'll keep the Board posted when we know more. Full track list is as follows (* indicates previously unreleased): 01 That's What Girls Are Made For 02 I'll Always Love You 03 Truly Yours 04 For All We Know 05 It Hurts To Be In Love 06 Tomorrow May Never Come 07 Sweet Thing 08 I Cross My Heart 09 Where Is That Girl 10 Like A Good Man Should 11 How Can I 12 I Just Can't Help But Feel The Pain 13 Darling * 14 Words Can't Describe * 15 12 O'Clock * 16 Lonely Tomorrow * 17 I Want My Baby Back * 18 Nobody Else But You * 19 Just Another Guy * 20 This Feeling In My Heart * 21 Memories Of Her Love (Keep Haunting Me) 22 What More Could A Boy Ask For 23 Head Over Heels In Love With You Baby 24 Too Late I Learned 25 Tea House In China Town * 26 We're Gonna Be More Than Friends *

Gloria Shannon
The Houston Express acetates are the acetates Steve is referring to Marc. here is the info from the Real Side website.... Imagine our surprise when, after listening to what felt like hours of run-of-the-mill rock 'n' roll and country music, we heard the opening bars of this magnificent mid tempo Northern Soul gem! Nothing is known about this sublime masterpiece other than it was recorded a circa 1970 and has been collecting dust ever since. The master tape box gives little away, other than a Dallas, Texas address and it is unlikely that, after more than three decades, the mystery will ever be solved. In 2004 Real Side Records cut 10 collectors acetates and the record picked up plays around the country courtesy of top DJs Tim Brown, Ginger Taylor and Roger Banks. Since being in circulation rumours have been rife about the song and it hs been suggested that the mysterious Gloria is in fact Gladys Knight? Let's just enjoy it for what it is - the best undiscovered Soul record in decades! If the real Side guys have paid their dues to the relevant concerns then it can't be illegal. It will be up to a third party to prove otherwise. I'm not sure what Motown would be doing down in Dallas?

The Next Generation Of Promoting?
Tascam look like good products for recording live stuff.... https://www.amazon.co.uk/Portable-Handheld-Audio-Recorder-format/dp/B004OA6JW0/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1335014517&sr=8-4 Don't forget to get permission if not your venue

The Next Generation Of Promoting?
The easiest way rot record to your laptop is from the headphone socket on your system to the line in on your laptop/pc soundcard. You an record your podcast this way then upload to a site that caters for podcasts, pod bean etc or to a sound cloud or mix cloud page which is probably your best option as it might work out cheaper if doing a few. Plenty of free and cheap software, keep it simple until you are familiar with what you are doing.
