  1. There are youngsters but by and large they don't travel and are confined to large cities. Manchester for instance. There certainly isn't enough to continue the all-nighter scene which is slowly in decline.
  2. Tend to agree with you Kris. These days both groups are little more than tribute acts when it comes to the material we all want to hear from them.
  3. As far as I am aware no one knows who it is. And I'd be surprised if Goldmine had the rights to license to whoever put that 45 out.
  4. Think Ginger had an acetate of the JJ Barnes version. He was playing it out at one time. Didn't the fact that JJ sounded like Marvin more or less finish his career with Motown.
  5. Ady Croasdell and Kent/Ace records Lou?
  6. https://www.ifmusic.co.uk/product.php?products_id=9115 Licensed from goldmine/soul supply according to the label......
  7. I posted the instrumental in refosoul. When I get home next I'll add it to my soundcloud.
  8. Ther other boot has Bill Purcell on the flip.
  9. George Hunt I think has it up for offers Dave.
  10. Au up pal. Looking forward to a catchup at Skeggy. Didn't the acetate come from John Vincent? I'm not sure about the foreign release? I wasn't aware of a legit release but could be wrong.
  11. Not that I'm aware and not according to "Don't Forget The Motor City" Show Me The Way (Jimmy Barnes-Richard Morris-Sylvia Moy) publ. 12. Neither the vocal or instrumental were released officially.
  13. Temptations "Forever in my heart (C'mon back to me baby)"and the Originals "Suspicion". They don't come much better.
  14. Original has a Nashville Matrix stamp.
  15. Deep at the top? I'm just uploading the 2minute 33 one which should then be Deep at the top!!
  16. The take where she holds the note but the backing singers are still there when she ends. This take shorter than the other one I have, this is 2:24 compared to I think 2:33 on the other???
  17. Here is the other version, Benny Curtis with the Gene Mason Sextet on bridges. https://soundcloud.com/chalkster/benny-curtis-with-the-gene
  18. It's not on youtube so just uploaded it....turn the volume right up!! https://soundcloud.com/chalkster/benny-c-oliver-the-mellow-men
  19. Can be tough to find at times, £150 now maybe?
  20. It got more like a cattle market Dave than a soul weekender. It also got too matey and arenas playing the same as other arenas.
  21. There's another version by Benny Curtis with the Gene Mason Sextet (Benny Curtis same guy) on Bridges. Bit more jazzy rather than the dancer Benny C Oliver is. Been playing the Benny C Oliver out lately. Guy covered it up as Ray Agee.
  22. Benny C Oliver and the Mellow Fellows - Make It now - Ojobco
  23. There was too much emphasis on money and getting in as many as possible the longer it went on. The first few were great, the first two as Mike says superb. But even the gloss was taken off the acts with poor sound and singing one record three times rather than do a half a dozen record set. I remember Baby Washington, you couldn't hear her, terrible for such a great artist. Had some great weekends there, especially the Thursdays early years watching the artists rehearse. With the acts they had on they wasted a great chance to have a superb showcase but IMO it was wasted. The music went downhill too, another nail in the coffin as far as I was concerned.
